Pond Turtle In Resin

The Science

The Red-Eared Slider is a semi-aquatic pond slider native to the southern United States. It gets the “Red-Eared” part of its name from the distinctive red stripe around its ears, and the “Slider” part from its ability to slide quickly off rocks into the water to avoid predators. It grows up to about 10 inches long and has a dark green shell with variable markings.

The Story

The Red-Eared Slider is omnivorous, feeding on a variety of aquatic plants as well as insects, worms, small crustaceans and fish. Slider turtles are also quite common as pets.

This lovely tiny specimen has been preserved in a three-inch square block of crystal-clear lucite resin and would make an excellent piece of biology decor!
