Green hydrogen can be a game changer in accelerating the transition to net-zero emissions and shaping a sustainable future for transportation. ⁉️ Did you know that hydrogen… 1️⃣ Produce no emissions. Vehicles powered by hydrogen only emit water vapor. 2️⃣ Can be used for storage. This allows surplus renewable energy from wind and the sun to be retained.  3️⃣ Is great for quick refueling. Compared to battery charging, refueling a hydrogen vehicle takes around the time it takes to fill a conventional fuel tank.  4️⃣ Is Versatile. Hydrogen has the potential to be used in fuel cells or power combustion engines, making it particularly versatile within the transport industry.  5️⃣ Is fourteen times lighter than air. Hydrogen is the lightest element in the periodic table – making it perfect for long-haul and heavy commercial vehicles because of its great range and efficiency.

“Some say I engineer Lego creations. Others say I forgot to grow up.”  Meet Stefan Eeckman, Design Engineer at Volvo Group in Ghent and Lego enthusiast.     Stefan's hobby isn't just a pastime; it significantly influences his work at Volvo. "Lego is a very creative process," he explains. "It helps me think outside the box and find innovative solutions for our customers. In my job, I often make a puzzle out of existing components to provide a solution, much like building with Lego where you are limited to the available parts."    His colleagues at Volvo share his enthusiasm, often stopping by his office to admire his Lego creations. One of his proudest achievements is a meticulously crafted Lego model of Volvo's flagship truck, the Volvo Trucks FH.    Stefan's love for Lego also took him to the semifinals of the TV show Lego Masters, supported by his colleagues to pursue his passion. "It was a crazy but very fun experience," he recalls.    Having a hobby outside of work, like Stefan's love for Lego, offers numerous benefits. "It provides a creative outlet, helps to keep the mind sharp, and can even inspire professional innovation. "It's very healthy to be engaged in something you enjoy. It keeps your mind off other things and brings a sense of fulfillment."     #VolvoGroup #Engineering #Lego #EmployeeSpotlight #WorkLifeBalance #Innovation #Creativity

Volvo Construction Equipment is accelerating the journey toward a sustainable transformation.      At the Braås plant in Sweden production facilities have been expanded. This enables deliveries of a larger range of articulated haulers with different types of powertrains, including electric. In Changwon, South Korea, a new battery pack production facility, also opened last month.     This investment is another important step on our electrification roadmap.

We believe in the power of Artificial Intelligence to revolutionize the way we work and deliver value to our customers. That’s why we recently hosted the AI in Action Hackathon, to explore the possibilities of AI within our industry. The AI in Action Hackathon showcased the transformative potential of artificial intelligence across the transportation sector. Over two dynamic days, Volvo Group Connected Solutions employees from Gothenburg, Curitiba, Greensboro, and Bangalore formed six cross-functional teams. Their mission was to explore AI’s capabilities in enhancing transport insights, customer interaction, and onboarding new team members. While all participants emerged as champions of innovation, the jury faced the tough task of selecting one overall winner. Team Green Warrior stood out with their innovative service, exemplifying Volvo Group’s commitment to sustainability. Their project not only supported our customers but also contributed to a more sustainable future.

To decarbonize heavy transport, we need a mix of technologies. Now, Volvo Trucks is developing trucks that run on hydrogen in modified combustion engines. On-road testing together with our customers will begin in 2026, and trucks that run on green hydrogen in combustion engines will be commercially available by the end of this decade.    The hydrogen-powered combustion engine trucks will complement our offering of other alternatives, such as battery electric trucks, fuel cell electric trucks, and trucks that run on renewable fuels, like biogas and HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). #Hydrogen #SustainableTransport

This week we’re at ACT Expo – the largest event for sustainable vehicle technology in North America, to share our journey toward #netzero in 2040. But we can’t decarbonize our industry alone. In his keynote speech, Roger Alm, president of Volvo Trucks, emphasized the need for investments in infrastructure and green energy, along with incentives and a price on CO2. “Heavy-duty trucks on the roads stand for 7% of the global CO2 and the demand for transport will increase as the population will grow. This is our biggest challenge ever. Both to meet this demand and reduce emissions. I’m convinced we can do this by working together. It all starts with realizing the problem and then committing to huge changes. The Volvo group has committed to huge changes.”
