MLive Media Group seeks applicants for national internship opportunities in digital media field

MLive Media Group is seeking applicants for a paid internship program that will offer summer positions in journalism, sales and marketing in major markets across the country, including Michigan.

The program is in coordination with MLive Media Group’s national affiliate, Advance Local, and will provide digital media experiences in Michigan, as well as affiliate companies in Alabama, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Orleans, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Syracuse, N.Y.

MLive Media Group has print newspaper and digital operations – online at MLive.com – in Grand Rapids, Flint, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, Saginaw, Muskegon, Jackson and Bay City, as well as digital news and sales offices in Detroit and Lansing.

“Our company is pioneering a new way of covering news and broadcasting information as well as offering tailored audience solutions for businesses in this exciting, digitally focused time,” said MLive Media Group President Dan Gaydou.

“We need to recruit and train great talent to help us thrive for many years to come. This is a great opportunity for our company, but also for students who want to learn in a new, innovative environment with real-life experience.”

On the news side, an intern would be expected to report and write stories, take photos and videos, and interact with readers on MLive.com and via social media. They must have exceptional writing skills and familiarity with web-publishing tools.

The sales and marketing intern will work with the digital sales and marketing team to develop multiplatform advertising solutions for local and regional advertisers. Ideal candidates will be goal-oriented, self-motivated and will have strong problem-solving skills.

Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in journalism, business, communications or related fields. Interns will work in a local market for eight weeks and then attend a national summit in the New York City area with fellow interns.

Interns must be available to work between June 2 and July 25. Intern position descriptions are available at advancelocal.net. Applications will be accepted until Feb. 28, and candidates will be notified by March 14. Applicants must supply a resume, references and up to three work or writing samples.

Students interested in more details should email advancelocalinfo@advance.net.
