Dr. Tony Rebuck’s Skippy’s Favorite Honey: just a hop, skip and a jump away!
You have a medical background. Did that influence your writing in any way?
YES, I AM A RETIRED PULMONARY PHYSICIAN AND PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE.
How did you decide to write a children’s book?
MY LAST BOOKS WAS ENTITLED ‘
BREATHING POISON; smoking, pollution and the haze”.
MY GRANDCHILDREN TOLD ME IT WAS BORING AND ASKED ME TO WRITE A BOOK FOR THEM.
How did the story of Skippy develop? Did you start with a character, or a place, or an object?
I USED TO MAKE UP BEDTIME STORIES FOR MY FOUR CHILDREN; SKIPPY WAS ONE OF THEIR FAVORITES.
Do children outside Australia relate to and enjoy this story?
MY GOODNESS YES. I HAVE FAMILY IN THE UK, CANADA, BOSTON AND CHICAGO. THEY LIKE IT EVEN MORE THAN THE AUSSIE KIDS.
And now for a fun question: does the best honey in the world really come from Guatemala?
ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA. I MADE UP GUATEMALA AS NONE OF THE LITTLE ONES KNEW WHERE IT WAS.
