Federal prosecutors Thursday put the finishing touches on the long-running, $2 billion bribery investigation at the heart of Brazil’s Operation Car Wash, called the world’s largest corruption scandal.

Petroleo Brasileiro S.A., known as Petrobras, signed a three-year, nonprosecution agreement that accepts responsibility for violating the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. The company agreed to pay a combined total of $853.2 million in penalties to the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and Brazil.
