Far-right French presidential candidate Marie Le Pen said in a press conference on Thursday that the closure of the country’s embassy in Damascus was a “mistake” that affected Christians negatively.

The presidential candidate also lamented that France fought others’ wars, citing the French intervention in Libya as an example and complained that this intervention led to the rise of Islamists. She said that it was well known that Libya is an immigrants’ gateway to cross into Europe; nonetheless, France went to Libya and fought a war there.

“We should not interfere in other countries’ policies, and I do not support intervention in others’ affairs,” she said, but added that “some in France still dream of colonial intervention.”
