Big concerts set for South Jersey

John Howard-Fusco
For the Courier-Post

March music, maestro? Sure, but before you start preparing yourself for John Philip Sousa, that’s not the March music I mean. Here are some South Jersey concert events coming up in March.

Jeffrey Gaines is among the performers hitting South Jersey venues in March,

The celebrated Scottish Rite Auditorium in Collingswood has an exciting double bill on March 3. Rickie Lee Jones and Madeleine Peyroux, two women who easily shift among rock, folk, jazz and blues, will bring their collective talents to the Scottish Rite stage. Jones' career has spanned five decades, with her most recent release, “The Other Side of Desire,” coming in 2015. Peyroux, Georgia-born and Parisian-raised, has been performing formore than 20 years. Her most recent album, “Secular Hymns,” was released in 2016. The show begins at 8 p.m., and tickets are still available. 315 White Horse Pike, Collingswood. Entertainer John Ciotta turns Resorts into one big party

March will be a busy month at The Record Collector, with regular performances on Saturday nights. On March 11, the double bill includes former Joan Jett & The Blackhearts guitarist Ricky Byrd, along with songwriter and performer Mark Hudson. Some of us remember Hudson when he was one-third of The Hudson Brothers. Other shows in March include The Red Elvises (March 18), Lisa Bouchelle and Ernie White (March 25) and the Billy Hector Band (March 31). All shows start at 7:30 p.m. 358 Farnsworth Ave., Bordentown. Saturdays are also going to be music-filled at Volume Café. John Eddie will perform two shows on March 4, at 7 and 10 p.m. On March 11, it will be an evening with Jeffrey Gaines starting at 8 p.m. And then it’s Steve Forbert taking the stage March 18 at 8 p.m. If you can’t make it out to Volume on a Saturday night, there’s singer/songwriter Griffen House performing on Sunday, March 19. Silver’s Blues Society open blues jam happens on March 6 from 7 to 11 p.m. And there will be a hip-hop event on March 24. 5600 Black Horse Pike, Washington Township. (856) 218-7777; volume.cafe

For the Beatle fans out there, The Vault at Victor Records will have two special nights of the music of The Beatles. On March 17, skip the St. Patrick’s Day stuff and enjoy a performance of the Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour” in its entirety. This year is the 50th anniversary of the album's release of the album. It’s also 50 years ago today (more or less) that The Beatles got “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” to play. On March 18, come hear the full album performed live. Both shows start at 8 p.m. Other performances at The Vault in March include Fran Smith Jr. from The Hooters on March 4 and Mike Ian on March 10. 150 S. White Horse Pike, Berlin. The MJ in MJ’s Jazz Café stands for Mark Jackson, a multitalented musician, writer and singer. On March 31, he will perform original music from his upcoming two-CD release. Although it's MJ’s Jazz Café, Jackson will showcase a number of musical styles. The evening’s performance starts at 8 p.m. Maple Shade Lions Club, 37 N. Lippincott Ave., Maple Shade. universe.com/mjsmagnificentspringconcert2017
