The Prince William County Police Department honored the life and service of Officer Chris Yung on the first anniversary of his line-of-duty death Tuesday, concluding with the unveiling of an official oil portrait of the fallen motorcycle officer.
Officer Yung was killed at the intersection of Nokesville Road and Piper Lane near Bristow on Dec. 31, 2012, at 2:03 p.m. He was responding to a separate traffic crash in Nokesville at the time of the incident.
The Department hosted a portrait unveiling ceremony at 2 p.m. today at the Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy, 13101 Public Safety Drive in Nokesville. Members of Officer Yung’s family attended the ceremony.
Police Chief Steve Hudson said the portrait of Officer Yung is a reminder of his service, his family and his sacrifice.
“Chris was a good husband, father, son, brother and police officer,” Chief Hudson said. “Chris lived a life of service, and all of us in this Department are honored that he chose to serve the people of Prince William County alongside us.”
Officer Yung was the third Prince William officer killed in the line of duty and the last law enforcement officer in America to lose his life in 2012
Artist Donald Poor, painted the portrait, which will hang alongside two other oil portraits of the department’s fallen officers at the academy. Poore lives in southwest Virginia. He is a former Virginia State Police trooper.
