3 Poor Dental Habits Revealed

3 Poor Dental Habits Revealed

Overbrushing is another one of the dental habits we are looking at since it can damage your teeth by wearing down your enamel.

Dedication to your dental health routine is something you can be proud of, especially if it shows. However, you might have some dental care habits that are hard to break. These three dental habits can actually harm your teeth, so balance your enthusiasm with some caution.

Too Much Teeth Whitening

The first of our poor dental habits have to do with teeth whitening. In your quest to achieve brighter, healthier looking teeth, you might start using teeth whitening products at home. However, this ultimately depends on your comfort level – how confident do you feel using these products without any problems? You might be better off seeking professional assistance from your dentist if you want some teeth whitening. After all, using too much teeth whitening can lead to excruciating mouth pain and teeth sensitivity. If you’re going to use these products, then we urge to follow the printed instructions.

Overbrushing

You should always aim to brush your teeth two or three times a day. How long you actually brush is up to you, because everyone’s timing is different. However, overbrushing is another one of the dental habits we are looking at since it can damage your teeth by wearing down your enamel. Luckily, there’s not much you need to do to improve this habit – all you need is a new toothbrush and a different, gentler technique.

Using Toothpicks

We know what you’re thinking: how can toothpicks hurt my teeth? After all, toothpicks are supposed to help clean your teeth. But the next time you’re about to chow down on some tasty summer barbecue, keep those wet wipes nearby and consider leaving the toothpicks alone. Occasional use of toothpicks won’t hurt, but if you rely on them, you could be damaging your teeth and gums in ways you can’t expect. Stick to floss instead. Speaking of floss, here’s one last bit of advice: whether you want to use floss or toothpicks, don’t reuse the same string or pick over and over. All you’re doing is spreading germs. Dispose of used toothpicks (even the toothpick ends of the little on-the-go-flosser-sticks) to prevent this from happening.
