USA Today Bestselling Author Lacey Silks writes seat-gripping romantic suspense with heat and spice. She’s married to most of her characters and tortures her husband with quirky book roles. Lacey’s two kids and her dog Kygo fill her time with homework questions and sweet licks all over her face (the dog not the kids).

When she’s not writing seat-gripping and heart-throbbing stories, Lacey enjoys camping and skiing with her family. She’s an early bird by nature and drinks coffee instead of water, because that’s how her busy billionaire heroes do it.

★★★ ½! Layers Peeled, book 2 (3). CEO & rookie police officer continue on their risky mission while embarking on a committed relationship!

“When had his definition of sleep changed to fuck?”

Tristan and Allie’s story starts in book 1. Books in the Layers Trilogy are most enjoyed when read in order:
Book 0.5: Dazzled By Silver
Book 1: Layers Deep
Book 2: Layers Peeled
Book 3: Layers Off

In Layers Deep (book 1) followed rookie police officer Allie Green and Cross Enterprises’CEO Tristan Cross as they embark on a dangerous mission. Both have secrets. Allie is set on revenge and Tristan on righting a wrong. And as they peeled the layers of each other pasts they found themselves getting hot and heavy in the bedroom.

Layers Peeled (book 2) picks up right after book 1’s cliffhanger ending. Even though Tristan was successful in his endeavor he has decided to continue their dangerous operation by setting up a special department alongside Cross Enterprises.

Allie and her roommate/former colleague Laura get to head the department and they continue digging into the dark mysterious forces we encountered in book 1.

Tristan and Allie’s insta-lust has turned into an insta-love as they set out on a path to put their lives together. Tristan is loyal and determined and Allie is smitten. We are treated to lots of sizzling sex with a very accommodating Tristan plus some surprises.

Aside from ridiculous blunders and irrational behavior by Ale throughout there was some suspense and intrigue with the unfolding of a mystery and the hunt for evil forces. Not everything is as it seems… Strap on your seatbelt!

TRISTAN CROSS: ~30 years/CEO & Partner Cross Enterprises/$$$$/light brown hair/hazel eyes/tattoos/scars.

Tristan was a rock throughout and he saved the book for me! Six words to describe Tristan Cross: Charming, enigmatic, focused, reliable, noble and endearing.

 photo kp1bysb_zps3cb36a93.gif

ALLIE GREEN: 23 years/police officer/auburn hair/brown-amber eyes/martial arts.

Though there might have been some mitigating circumstances Allie’s actions lacked common sense and cop instinct every step of the way. Six words to describe Allie Green: Naive, determined, immature, conflicted, confident and reckless.

Blurb had given me the indication this was the end of Tristan and Allie’s story. Alas that is not the case. Layers Peeled provided them with a wonderful HEA, but book 3, Layers Off is going to further explain and delve into events covered by both book 1 and 2. Thus many of my questions did go unanswered plus the ending opened the door for more intrigue. Book 3 will follow Kendra a side character in this book 1 & 2.

Scorching sex scenes with a very skilled and accommodating Tristan! A suspenseful and dangerous plot! To be continued…! 3.5 stars!

★★★ 3 stars!

Layers Peeled is the second part of the Layers Trilogy and the sequel to Layers Deep by Lacey Silks. Since I quite enjoyed reading the first part of the series and because it ended on a huge cliffhanger; I was very much looking forward to starting this book. I was hoping the story would continue to develop in a similar fashion as its prequel but unfortunately that wasn't the case.

This second part of the series picks up right where the first one ended.... The news Allie has for Tristan however, will bring them back closer together. During the rest of the boon we follow the progress of their relationship and Allie's new challenging job.

My first and foremost issue was the main female character Allie Green. I don't know what happened to her between the first and the second book; all I know is that she was not the same cool-headed, fierce, strong heroine she once was.

For an ex-cop who's supposed to think rationally it sure didn't seem smart for her to chase after multiple weaponed men in an alley without back-up and while ...

And it went on and on like that.

It was like made her into an entirely different person, one who's lost all sense of rationality and who's ten times as insecure as before. But maybe this was the explanation why she suddenly became such a different person:

"Girls like me, regular ones who led a simple lifestyle, weren't supposed to deserve a man like Tristan. He'd managed to peel every single layer of my impenetrable cop exterior with a look, a touch, and a word."

Whenever Tristan was in the same room as her, it was as if she became tongue tied and spellbound by his presence. Also, the countless times the author mentioned the fact that Tristan smelled like Old Spice seemed completely random and redundant. We already knew from book one which type of cologne he uses etc. so there's really no need to repeat those random facts over and over.

What saved the book for me was Tristan Cross. He managed to keep a clear head throughout the entire story and despite his fear of commitment I thought he responded very well to the news of . He was very patient with Allie's reckless behavior and he was really committed to his relationship with her.

All in all, Layers Peeled was an okay read, but sadly it didn't live up to its potential. For example, I would have much preferred more focus on the suspense and intrigue like there was in book one, instead of on all the in detail described sex scenes, which is saying a lot because the sex scenes are usually some of my favorites scenes is a book. Luckily though, this book does end with a HEA . Apparently, the next book will be told from Kendra's POV but since she wasn't really one of my favorite characters I don't think I'll be continuing with the rest of the series.

Three disappointing "what happened to the main character?" stars...

(((Be warned, there is a fair amount of cursing in this review)))

Before you get the impression that I hated it all, let me assure you that the book certainly had its redeeming qualities:
There were some good action scenes similar to the level of book one...
I certainly got caught up in the suspense on more than one occasion...
There were some warm & fuzzy family moments...
Tristan Cross is still dreamy...
Allie's friend Laura managed to shake some sense into her a few times...

When I reviewed book one, Layers Deep (You can read my full review here), I gave it 3 1/2 stars. The series had a lot of promise, but there were several factors dragging it down. I was primarily disappointed with the pace of the book. There were too many absurd coincidences and the ending was rushed and wholly unsatisfying on many levels.

I also had issues with some of the writing in Book One:
1. Allie was constantly talking about how much Tristan smelled like scotch.
2. She had several childish turns of phrase ("gosh" & "geez") which did not fit with a woman who could just as easily say "fuck" and "cock"...

That being said, the book had several redeeming parts which kept me invested and interested enough to read the sequel.
So when I started Layers Peeled, I was cautiously optimistic that a sequel could redeem the shortfalls of book one.

I was wrong
That happens from time to time ;)
And I really, really wanted to like this book.

In Layers Deep, the main character, Allie Green was a savvy, ass-kicking, revenge-plotting force to be reckoned with...
I mean seriously, in the last book she

That's awesome!
That's the kind of character I want to read about!
But that's not what we got in this book...

She was constantly making poor decisions,
Wandering into dark alleys alone,
Deliberately putting herself in danger,
Antagonizing armed men,
Failing to acquire backup,
and generally being a helpless individual...

There are those who are postulating that the personality transplant given to Allie Green is due to

And if the girl said "GOSH" or "GEEZ" one more time I was in serious danger of throwing my eReader. That kind of sophomoric filler is not only ridiculous, it makes her sound like a child, and was completely unnecessary... I recommend eliminating at least half of those little interjections.

I don't want to beat a dead horse with my complaints here, but the rhythm of this book was choppy at best. It oscillated between lightening fast and slowing to a crawl without much grey area... Once again the race to the ending (and the promised HEA Ending) felt rushed and unsatisfying.

I am dumbfounded that the author chose to devote an equal amount of pages to describe a hand-job in a closet as she did the
...I don't even have anything witty to say about that.
...I'm speechless.

The author insisted on using overly-simplistic foreshadowing in the such as:
"...I finally thought my life would settle down.
Boy, was I ever wrong."
"It would be another four months before I felt at peace.
I shouldn't have."
She did this no less than three times...

On the other hand, Lacey Silks seemed to listen to her readers on one thing: I don't think she mentioned Tristan smelling like scotch once in the entire book... So there's that victory...

3--Disappointing--Stars!!!

And yet another series suffers from the sophomore slump...

Why do characters have to do a complete 180 in subsequent books???

WARNING: May contain spoilers if you have not read Layers Deep.

Layers Peeled picks up where Layers Deep ended. Allie is now pregnant but hasn't told Tristan. We had the cliffhanger ending of Allie "getting fired". Turns out Allie wasn't fired afterall she was just re-assigned to a new department that she and her BFF Laura will be handling--taking down all of the sex trafficking rings.

My biggest complaint about this book was Allie. She just became STUPID, for lack of a better word. I mean she had a serious case of the pregnancy brain.

Not once, not twice but THREE times she put her unborn baby's life in danger.

Seriously Allie...

I get you were a badass cop in Layers Deep but now you have to recognize your limitations.

I mean thank goodness we had Tristan to sort of save this book.

Honestly, plot wise very little happened in this book. In Layers Deep we learned that Allie and her mom were on the run from Dave Wright who had raped Allie's mom and killed her unborn child. According to Tristan, he had "taken care of it".

Clearly no one else was concerned. Well of course Wright wasn't "taken care of".

All of the scenes with Marissa.....

I didn't get that storyline really.

IDK...there were just too many eye-roll inducing moments, more cheesy dialogue and just overall unrealistic scenarios.

Especially the end....that was just one big

Hated the name Puss not to mention the actual chosen baby name.

Again, there were a lot of holes which according to the author will be explained in book 3. But I'm not sure I will be continuing on at this point. This one just didn't work for me.

3.5 Mixed Feelings Stars!

The continuing story of Allie and Tristan. Do not continue reading if you haven't read Layers Deep yet as this may contain spoilers. Actually, it WILL contain spoilers for Layers Deep but not for Layers Peeled.

The ending of Layers Deep, we are left with Tristan "firing" Allie. Well, not really, but I won't spoil this story with those details. We know Allie is pregnant but has yet to tell Tristan. Things are up in the air for them. Will they stay a couple? How will he react to his impending fatherhood? Is Wright completely out of the picture as Tristan promises?

This book clears all that up. There's a healthy dose of suspense, continued sexual chemistry heating the sheets for Tristan and Allie.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I deducted a bit on this book for a few annoyances I had. I really loved Allie in Layers Deep. She was a feisty strong cop and I found that refreshing. This book, call it pregnancy brain, but she did some stupid things to put herself and her baby at risk. When those scenes occurred, it was an immediate "What are you doing!!" It just didn't fit the character we knew from book one.

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Tristan has been the one constant for me this series. He's loyal, protective to a fault. I was actually amazed how understanding he was of her stupid risky behaviors but maybe he just loves her regardless of her risk-taking issues. Dunno. It's cool till the fetus growing inside you is at risk...

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I am fiercely interested in Laura and James' story. Unsure if that's to come down the road but his kink and her feistiness is something I'd be interested in reading. Apparently book three is still Allie and Tristan but it's in Kendra's POV and goes over a period of time that takes place within this book. So no further timeline for Allie and Tristan as far as I know. We do get our HEA for these two and you can be safe reading it at this point. I enjoyed it okay. Would I read it again? Probably not. Will I read book three? The jury is out on that too as Kendra was not a character I had much of a vested interest in.

3 Thank Goodness for Tristan Stars

I'm confused. Did I just read the same series? Because this was nothing like book one for me. Now I understand that Allie may have had , but it was more like she either underwent a personality change or a lobotomy. Maybe both?

Every. Single. Decision. She. Made.

She went from a kick-ass, smart-mouthed heroine to someone going on 16. The things she'd say or do was not something I'd expect from someone in their 20s.

There she was, , by herself in a dark alley with no weapon, facing off against 3 thugs that she chased off on a whim. Did I mention they have a switch blade? So what do she do? Call for back up? Call Tristan? Hell no! Antagonize them, of course!

But I think I could have been OK with this. Maybe. If it wasn't for a few other things.

The cheesy terminology

Hot rim? Hardened growth? Scrumptious bulk?

Then there was Allie's penchant of overusing the word 'gosh' and 'geez'. Not going to lie. It drove me pretty batty.
I didn't really get the constant Flintstones references. Maybe this was explained better in the prequel novella? Not sure. All I know is that it didn't work for me. Then there was how they referred to as Puss. I know this is supposed to be Flintstones related again. But all I kept picturing was

The plot inconsistencies and lack of development

This is what ultimately brought my rating down. There were things that I felt should have definitely been explained more, yet they were pretty much glossed over.
The biggie?

I felt that the ending was very glossed over and somewhat rushed.

The last chapter was the saving grace. It was very cute. But I have to admit, if it wasn't for Tristan, I'm not sure if this would have made it to a 3 star for me.

Will I read the next book in the trilogy? Meh. Probably not. I was satisfied with the ending here, and I'm not too curious to learn more. I think this book somewhat killed my curiosity.

Will I read future books by this author? Absolutely. Aside from the things I mentioned, I do enjoy her writing style. The sex scenes were smoking hot, and I did thoroughly enjoy book 1 in the trilogy. I think this book was just not for me.

I do think many would still enjoy this one, though. So don't let my review keep you from reading it. I do tend to be on the pickier end, so it takes quite a lot to have me rate something 5 stars.

I did like this book. It just won't be something I see myself ever going back to.

I got an ARC....EEEK! I could not read this fast enough. I was nose to my kindle all day, turning pages furiously. I don't want to give any spoilers but lets just say this book does NOT disappoint us Tristan Cross lovers at all. I am glad Allie and Tristan got their HEA finally and it didn't go at all like I had expected after the cliffhanger of Layers Deep. I must say I am now a little nervous for Book 3 which will be from Kendra's POV, I can't really see myself liking her despite how I know I should. I know there will be big bombshells coming and I am not exactly excited to see my perfect little Tristan or Julian, or heck even Gabe tarnished any in my mind. For those who have read and loved Layers Deep you will love Layers Peeled like I did. Plenty of hot sex, romance and suspense! Great job Lacey Silks!

LAYERS PEELED is the second book in the Layers Trilogy that is not to be missed. Picking right up from LAYERS DEEP, LAYERS PEELED takes you through more twists and turns with lots of suspense, passionate sex, pregnancy hormones and a quick wedding near the end.

 photo layers7_zpsfa9e30c9.gif

Tristan's brows narrowed in a playful frown as he glided toward me and took me by my hips. "I love a strong woman who speaks her mind."
"What else do you love about me?" I lifted my arms around his neck, feeling his perfect naked front against me. His growth poked me in my stomach and I fought the urge to spread wider to accommodate him so he could finally have his lovely cock inside me.
"I love you kick-ass moves when you flip my brother on his back."
"What else?" I bit my lip, pressing my chest harder to him, acutely aware of the "L" game we were playing.
"I love your hair, your eyes, your tits, and your ass." He grabbed my backside. Something stirred deep inside my belly. There was nothing that could arouse me more than Tristan's dirty mouth.
"What else?"
"I love Puss." He lowered his hand to my belly, rubbing it around the navel, the touch not only full of love and compassion but also desire. A tingling sensation rekindled deep in my core. The flickering spark turned into a small flame. Part of me wanted to hand to slide even lower, but the gentle caress of his palm felt smooth.
I closed my eyes, savoring the touch, and whispered, "What else?"
"I love you."

 photo layers8_zps02ac02be.gif

And instead of waiting for me to speak, or being insecure that I hadn't said anything, Tristan lowered his mouth to mine and kissed me like he didn't need to hear my reply because he already knew it. How could he not? I'd been in love with this man for weeks. I couldn't quite place when or where it happened, because everything he had done for me and with me -- I just couldn't imagine anyone else in my life like that other than him. I trusted him with my life and my soul.
...I looked into his eyes and said, "I love you too, Tristan Cross." Not because I had to and not because he'd said it first, but because I wanted to.

 photo layers14_zpsdd645fad.jpg

The characters are still wonderful.
I felt like Allie's character wasn't as strong as she was in the first book, but I think maybe it was all the pregnancy hormones? I don't know. I also don't think the story was as suspenseful as LAYERS DEEP because of her pregnancy. Having said that, I enjoyed the love story that kept unfolding. Nothing is better than a happily ever after and this book delivers.

 photo layers14_zpsd779e168.gif

Tristan was still yummy. I felt as if he let Allie do a lot of things I necessarily wouldn't have thought he would have, for example, still go working undercover. I would have thought he to be more over protective, but nonetheless, it was still an enjoyable story.

 photo layers4_zps5727e858.gif

The only complaint I will make on the book is that it's way TOO SHORT! I want more! I love the hero and heroine and can't wait to read the next book by Ms. Silks. She can write such a wonderful tale and the love scenes are scorching hot! I absolutely have recommended her books to all of my friends. You cannot go wrong with a Lacey Silks book.

Layers Peeled was not as exciting for me as Layers Deep. There were aspects that I like and some that I didn't prefer or confused me. Overall though the story is still entertaining and the story of Tristan and Allie is worth reading.

The plot of Layers Peeled picks right up where book one left off and leaves nothing hanging in the balance. I loved the way the book started up until about 30%. Tristan and Allie are gaining their footing as a genuine couple and becoming more emotionally available. Allie for some reason though in this book isn't as hard as she is in book one. Once she lets her guard down I felt like she lost a little bit of her edge. Then the storyline starts getting more involved and at times a bit confusing. Some of the plot gets confusing with Marissa and David Wright. I sensed a connection there but then something threw me. Then they were in Austria and Kendra came back and Sam sort of disturbed me with things she said to Allie. It all was just a lot coming at you without any real direction. However, the Tristan and Allie time in Austria is awesome. The way the author plays out their story is fantastic. The elements that make up the direction of their relationship are sweet, surprising, and cute. Without any of the outside issues, their story will satisfy you. It's the outer layers of the plot where the story gets a bit murky. I also think that there is a lot more to learn about the all the characters involved because of the timeline of how Layers Peeled ends so I'm interested to read the next installment to learn some more of those finer details.

I'm very pleased with how Tristan and Allie's love story ended and equally confused about some of the mysterious plot. Layers Peeled is intriguing, fast-paced, and enjoyable. I look forward to reading the next book.

Ok, ok, ok... I cannot believe how fast this book got in my hands nnd neither how fast I read it. Maybe because it was that good and I want to know it all. If you haven't read Layers Deep, this review will totally spoiler you.

The story continues like the second right after the last finished, as I wished in my last review. The whole thing about you-are-fired was totally a bullshit so she could have another position. She told him that she is pregnant and tada he was not upset. That was a plus one, Tristan. The whole book is about their life together before the baby come and the "resolution" of the David Wright problem... yes, he still around. At the end, everything went better than expected, but there still one more book. Could anyone tell me what will be about because I loved that ending?

This book is like being in happy pills all day and when something wrong happen its like whenever you take a pill and it effects go off for a little time until you take the other one. I was beyond happy reading this book. I love the writting, the characters, the scenes and of course the end. You guys know that I hate mostly all ends, but this one.... awww<3

I don't know what the author is up to, but if the third and last book have more happy pilll, I'm up to. Give it to me and I will devore it in a day. Totally recommend it.

For the love of all that's holy, what have I just finished reading?!

Corny and predictable doesn't even begin to cover it.

Why did the main characters do a complete 180 from the first book in the series? What happened to them all? Why did Allie all of a sudden turn into this stupid, brainless teenager led by her raging hormones? Where did the badass cop go to?

The ending, oh gawd, the ending is as unrealistic, improbable, impossible and plain stupid as they come.

To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement.

I will not continue on with the series, since this is not what Layers Deep had promised.

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book...

Layers Peeled, book 2 in the Layers Trilogy by Lacey Silks started out rather promisingly. I felt that the middle half was kinda dragging though, lacking the nerve-wrecking suspense and action of Layers Deep. But, the author has a way of keeping me guessing of what’s going to happen next. I kept reading to find out exactly what she had in store for Tristan and Allie... and for us in this installment of the trilogy.

If you haven’t, consider starting series with the prequel, Dazzled by Silver. Though it’s not directly connected to book 1 and 2, our H and h, Tristan and Allie were briefly introduced there. We also are introduced to the prominent Cross Enterprises; Tristan’s family business. They do all sorts of spy and detective work through this organization comprising of Tristan, his twin Julian, their father Mr. Cross. Even their mother is a part of it, younger sister Emma already being a trainee of sort. H of Dazzled by Silver, Gabriel, a brilliant PI on his own right, is Tristan’s cousin and a part of this organization.

When book 1 starts from the h, Allie’s POV, we immediate learn of her heartbreaking past; how her father was allegedly murdered by an a$$hole he thought his friend, the same a$$hole who had an eye for her mother. Allie’s mother was raped, lost the baby she was carrying right after her father was killed in ‘an accident’ which now Allie thinks was no accident at all. Worst was, a 10 year old Allie was forced to witness the crime, having no idea how to save her mother.

This man, Wright, has been the bane of their existence ever since. He’s a sick, obsessed and equally ruthless bastard. And ever since she grew up and decided to become a cop, Allie has been protecting her mother the best she could. At this point, for Allie, a stable and happy family life is nothing but a deep and secret longing. Allie craves a beautiful family to call her own with her husband and kids, finding way to keep her mother safe and make her happy. Little did she know or expect that Tristan cross would happen in her life soon and turn it upside down. In a good way, of course.

When Tristan comes to find Allie for an assignment, he was desperate. His ex, Kendra has been kidnapped by a mafia gang and now, on the verge of being pimped off to become a sex slave. Glimpses of their history can be read in the prequel but Tristan’s affection for her is not that of a lover or a boyfriend anymore. He cares for her and wants to save her from this fix she’s gotten herself into. The assignment is dangerous and the investigator has to go undercover as a prostitute to track where Kendra might be. She needs to be someone smart and brave enough to pull it off.

Tristan had already made inquiries of his own on Allie’s past and he seemed to think that she’s THE ONE for the job. But it was also true that he has been attracted to her right from the start. Convincing Allie proves to be easy as she falls for the sexy PI on spot. She becomes adamant to prove herself to Tristan. When they find that shared connection and Allie figures out that he cares for her beyond the physical, it just makes the deal sweeter. They become intimate on the process of the investigation, though Allie still had no idea of her place in Tristan’s life. Would it be something casual and end after the investigation ends? Would she become someone important to a man life Tristan Cross? Can she?

Trouble is, Allie finds that she has fallen deep for Mr. Cross as well and living without him is not an option anymore. Tristan is smart, sexy, considerate and inherently kind with a great sense of humor. And he rocks her world both in and out, so why not?

When the investigation takes place and danger finds Allie is when the truth of just how much Tristan cares for her comes out. Later, Allie discovers that she’s pregnant.

Layers Peeled starts right from here book 1 left off. Allie decides to come clean and tell Tristan that they’re expecting. With all sorts of negative things going through her head, she toughens herself up for Tristan’s rejection of the baby. Allie doesn’t know if he’d want this as much as she does. But, at Tristan’s office, she is the one who gets surprised. Allie not only finds herself being fired of her current job but also appointed for a new job as the head of a new department, courtesy of her Mr. Cross. Then the said Mr. Cross finds himself speechless to learn of the news of his impending fatherhood!

Yes, yes, some hot celebratory desk sex follows...

Tristan is definitely not unhappy, more so because he deeply cares for Allie, so having a family with her seems like perfectly normal. He enthusiastically begins planning about the arrival of the newest addition with the help of his own family and Allie. The Cross family, who have been kind and already accepted Allie and her mother to the fold, welcome the news with much joy; especially Emma, the youngster, is ecstatic on the prospect of becoming an aunt!

After her undercover stint with the pimps and the helpless girls back in that hotel, Allie had been very serious about helping some of these girls out however she can. One girl’s case particularly interests her as she looked much like her. While Allie was trying to track her down in hopes of getting her some help, suddenly, one day, the past returns to haunt her when she finds Wright somewhere near her office. This leaves Allie so badly shaken that Tristan decides to take an early vacation to Austria. They were already scheduled to go there for Gabriel and Samantha’s marriage. It is also imperative that Allie’s mother would accompany them, because ever since learning of Allie’s past, Tristan has made it his responsibility to provide all around security required for the older woman.

This is the part where the story slows down a bit, though I liked the sweet and sexy developments in Allie and Tristan’s relationship. Expect some hot, yet playful sex and talks of the new baby and fun with the extended family in vacation. The fact that they both were scared of talk of marriage bugged me a little but I was glad that Tristan sorts things out in the end.

There was a particular twist at the very end that totally got me! I was waiting for Wright to get his comeuppance but things don’t go as planned. He returns, again, to terrify Allie once more. But no worries, the bastard got what he deserved all along and more.

Layers Peeled doesn’t have any big cliffhanger. It won’t leave you hanging as Allie and Tristan finally are blessed with their HEA. But the author note will give you some pointers on what to expect in the final installment, Layers Off. This’ll be the story of Julian and Kendra. Apparently, Julian always harbored a tendre for her and tried his best to take care of Kendra after she was rescued, bruised and broken. We’d finally get to learn of Kendra’s past, her own problematic life and how she came to be a part of the Cross family.

Meanwhile, 4 stars for Layers Peeled.

Wowwwwww. From beginning to end. Love the way Tristan treats Allie, the way he cares for her... Love how the Cross family is so incredibly close, welcoming Allie with open arms. There is so many incredible moments in this book, from happy moments to heart breaking ones. But the best part was truly the ending.

Sorry but I have to be honest about this..

Layers Deep was good. I honestly adored the mysterious, distant, and the I-get-what-I-want Tristan Cross. He was so hot that he doesn't even dare to hide his tented shorts in front of everyone.

Apparently, Layers Peeled was so damn horrible, it hurts. The Tristan Cross that I've loved is sooooo totally gone. From being dark and mysterious, he suddenly changed into this soft family-oriented guy. The twist was even ridiculous.

On the other hand, Allie, who is stupid enough to make dangerous troubles even if she preggo! *facepalm* She doesn't give a fuck if she's preggo or not.. She just jump into this cop-mode without even thinking about her safety!

*frustrated groan* I'm sorry.

Even the storyline doesn't make any sense. The last few chapters were even rushed. Some parts were terribly written which makes some scenes confusing. Most parts were not even interesting. You would even skip it and have no regrets. Lastly, the connection between the two leads, is dead.

I am sorry. But I am so done with this.

My thought about this series : a must read! Hot steamy, lovely, romantic, suspense, cops, gun and actions...

This book was one of my mostly anticipated book, because I really enjoyed the first. And the first ended with a major cliffhanger!! so I can't thank you enough for the relieve of the frustration.
So the story begun where it was left of. Right with you're fired and also the fact she was pregnant.
But man, the man was full surprise!!

Here in this story, don't be surprised that it was not like the first book as this story was developing into their embrace of their new life as a couple, upcoming parents and also new statut. So it could be found boring and a lot of smelting hot scene. But all of those things about them showed the layers off, the peeled ones making them moving foward.
And I just couldn't love more the family unit and as for Emma. A firecracker! The family was one thing that Allie didn't think she could have. And in this book, it showed every step to it.

This reading was easy and lovely which put a smile on my face since I knew this one would be an happy ending, the author told us so. I was given my happy ending. But with great surprise because it was still a suspence story which the connections were made. Some of them. And I also like the fact about love : each person with their on time, their own happiness.

So now I couldn't wait more for some Cross and secrets!!!

I got this amazing book as an ARC on NetGallery and so happy I got it. As I was reading it and giving feed back on edits I have to say Lacey is a great lady and fellow Canadian which makes it even better.
New life binds them,
Past ghosts haunt her,
Fresh secrets distract him,
….an history repeats itself. (LS)
But lets start with this review already right lol
Allie the rookie cop turned private investigator has a crazy time in this book. From pregnancy, hookers, new company, saving girls, and the evil of David Wright. Tristan is still her rock while his brother Julien is a rock for Kendra during her transition.
When the past shows up in New York they make a run to Austria early before they originally planned. But Tristan has plans all this own as well. Only after Allie drops her surprise on him first.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat all the time and even a few PANTY DROPPING moments.

Ok, I literally dropped what I was reading once I figured out this book had been released. I mean after the first book's major cliffy I had to figure out what was going on. This book was enjoyable to me and was a quick read. I liked that it truly gave us an ending to Tristan and Allie's story and I was happy with the ending.

There are some parts of this story which were annoying. Allie taking chances when she is pregnant was beyond real. Tristan's method of handling Wright were obviously not effective. Emma and her annoying baby names. Now despite all these annoyances, Tristan remains a dream throughout this story. I was worried about Kendra's involvement in this story but luckily it was of no significance. Further the steamy scenes were even better in this book. The kitchen with the chocolate ice cream and the coat closet were both memorable scenes.

So overall, even though the story and timeline fly a bit quickly and some finer points are overlooked, I enjoyed this story. Apparently the next book will be told from Kendra's perspective and will fill in gaps and may even reveal some imperfections in the Cross family. Honestly I am not sure if I will even want to read this as I don't want anything to ruin my HEA thoughts for Allie and Tristan.

Layers Peeled is a great follow to Layers Deep. There is action, romance, hot sex and emotion. We see Allie and Tristan begin to build life together and there is nothing sexier than a man happy to see his lady pregnant. Tristan's love and care for Allie is very sweet. Just because Allie is pregnant she isn't holding back from helping woman. She is determined to help anyone she can out of a dark life and into a better one. Of course, the whole cast of characters including Tristan's family makes appearances throughout the book and you just fall in love with all them. Emma is a scene stealer. I hope she has her own book one day.

I wish this story would have been a bit longer and I did figure out the villain halfway through the book. The ending has your heart racing, so keep reading.

I look forward to the third book in this series.

yep, could see that coming! (Re: the bad guy)

loved that the wedding wasn't all big and showy, none of the "I organised it all, here's your dress", just a proposal & lets do it right now!

the editing issues from the last one continued into this one, which I started to get a little frustrated with. some bits I had to re-read just to make sense of it.

overall, I enjoyed reading it.

Layers peeled is hilarious and very hot - but the narrator is a little annoying at times. Also, it was not very hard to understand the heavy foreshadowing. Still a good read, though :)

Allie and Tristan's story continues... with Allie's news that upped their relationship more... and a ghost of Allie's past that is still haunting her.

I would consider this a light read... non-irritating lead female character, a hot and sexy alpha male. A sweet romance with a little twist and a lot of sex scenes. Though some scenes are just repetitive, and the plot a wee bit predictable. All in all, it was alright... Written on Allie's POV.

This book picks up exactly where the first book ended, with Tristan firing Allie. While I enjoyed the continuation of Tristan and Allie”s story I didn’t think it was as good as the first book. I got tired of how one minute Allie would say she would never put her unborn child in danger and the next minute she does exactly that. Another issue I had with the story is way too many sex scenes,,,Don’t get me wrong I like sex scenes in my books, but only when they make sense....I’m almost certain every chapter had a least one sexual encounter and I just felt the Author used them as filler. They sex became so repetitive I started skimming through them early on...Sometimes an Author can really over do it with the sex scenes. However, I still liked the story itself and will read the 3rd and final book in the series. I’m looking forward to Julien and Kendra’s story which I will read next.

Title: Layers Peeled
Author: Lacey Silks
Publisher/Year: MyLit Publishing 1/13/14
Length: 189 pages
Series: Layers Trilogy #2

Overview

New life binds them,
Past ghosts haunt her,
Fresh secrets distract him,
...and history repeats itself.

Allie, a rookie cop hired and desired by a private investigator, is about to knock the wind out of Tristan with the biggest news of her life... ... right after the announcement that he fired her sinks in.

Tristan, the owner of Cross Enterprises, has a few surprises for Allie as well. And she won’t see them coming.

While the couple tries to deal with their predicament and growing romance, ghosts from Allie's past haunt her, slowly calculating the timing of their return.

With new assignments distracting Tristan, fate has stacked a threat against them. Can Allie and Tristan peel away their protective layers for long enough to see the danger brewing at their doorstep? If they don't work together, trusting and sharing information, it may be too late.

And history may repeat itself.

My Thoughts

I loved the cliffhanger that we got from book 1 - i mean, really - Allie was set to reveal something game changing to Tristan, and he utters 2 words 'You're Fired'. Allie's life came to a crashing halt, and she didn't know what to make of things

Then we pick up in book 2 with the same moment in time, Allie's reeling since she was just about to tell Tristan that she's pregnant, and doesn't know what to do there. What she doesn't know and quickly learns though is that yes she's fired,.....but from her current position and Tristan's set up a new foundation for her and Laura to head up to rescue the kidnapped woman. Amazing right? At that same time, Tristan reaches for the box that Allie brought with her with the booties in it, and when Tristan realizes that she's preggo, Allie's afraid that things will end abruptly since he doesn't seem like the type to want to be tied down. well...she's wrong! He's thrilled....so happy moments ensue, yet these may be the few ones in this story.

What we get in this 2nd and somewhat final yet not final installment (cause it is a trilogy i think) is a roller coaster. We have a few interesting things going on here.

1) Allie and Laura are hot on the trail of trying to rescue women, with one girl in particular resonating more...Marissa. The girl that was in the same auction as Allie, and who looks like she could be Allie's sister. This plot line in particular kept me guessing. i mean, why keep mentioning that she could be Allie's sister...right? it's just odd- but and interesting twist towards the end for sure. The other interesting twist with this story is that you don't know who the 'ghost buyer' is that bought her, and while i did have my suspicions (which were confirmed), i wasn't 100% sure and that was fun.

2) Allie and Tristan's relationship wasn't certain in some sentiments. while on just about every other page of this book they were having amazing sex and making me all hot and bothered, there wasn't any certainty in what their relationship was going to be. It seemed like everyone was pushing them to do things that weren't ever in Allie's cards before, and what Tristan didn't seem ready for. It made for a nice bit of diversity here.

3) David Wright. i don't know about any of you, but i wasn't sure that he was out of everyone's hair after book 1 - i mean, we never saw him die or put in jail, so i had a feeling that he was going to come back, and boy does he.

So, the confusing thing that i have to call out, which i know that Ms. Silks addresses in her notes after the story is that there's a 4 month gap in the story - kind of like a fast forward. IT's like we learn a lot of information very quickly in the first few lines of the skip ahead and i kept wondering if i missed something. The good news is that it sounds like we'll find all the detail out in the next book from Kendra's POV.

Anyhow, I really enjoyed this series so far, and i hope that the novella that i have on Gabe and the next book from Kendra will keep in line with the quality that we've gotten so far. There's nothing better than a story that has such passion and chemistry that you know it's inappropriate for reading on a commute. This book is that - you can't get more than a page without the happy couple having trouble keeping their hands off each other - which is GREAT.

Enjoy!

My rating: 3.5 of 5 ⭐️

Her mouth still open with the news she is fired from Cross Enterprises, Allie, former cop and lover of owner of the investigation company, as well as her boss, Tristan, sees her dreamed up future disappear into mist. This did not bode well for her own piece of what should have been big news, and she is about to beeline it out of his office when he blocks her way and demands to set some things straight. And straight they get.....but no less complicated.

Their renewed mutual assurances and amended working relationship goes a long way to settle the waters. But when Allie's biggest fear becomes real once again and demands to be dealt with, all feelings of contentment and domestic bliss fly out the window to make room for the familiar pull of panic and paranoia. Once again Tristan uses his vast resources to ensure, this time permanently, that no harm can come to their new and loving home.

Lulled into complacency, will it leave Allie exposed to danger, or is it really gone for good this time .

*****

Another blistering hot instalment of the Layers Trilogy! This time with a very HEA and without the cliffhanger......and yet....there is a third book yet to come. One that is supposed to retrace all the way back to the very beginning, and will show every little secret still until-revealed, exposed.

Because despite the fact that there is a HEA in this book, there are questions left. Questions in particular around Tristan and his ongoing concern with Kendra, an old girlfriend who turned to drugs and self-destruction after her broke up with her. She is very much involved with his entire family clan and although clean now, after being rescued from a white slavery auction in the first book, by Allie.
There are dynamics working within the family around Kendra that are very unclear as of yet. Tristan hasn't offered any explanations and Allie hasn't demanded any, feeling secure enough in Tristan's apparent devotion to her. Although throughout this book, she has her moments of insecurity around just that issue.

As mentioned the sex is hot, as it was in book one. Hot and frequent, and the chemistry between Allie and Tristan is definitely a tangible thing. The romance was almost overwhelming in its abundance. Tristan was being a perfect guy......saying everything right, doing everything right, treating Allie like a queen. A tad too perfect.

Although we don't miss out on action once again in Layers Peeled, especially at the beginning, the story is simply a continuation of the same line followed in the previous book, except a little stretched out. I can't help but feel that the entirety of these two installments could have been better served as one complete book. But then, I haven't read the third part yet......

Layers Peeled was well-written, albeit not quite as engaging and smooth as Layers Deep was. It simply wasn't cohesive enough on its own. I will most definitely keep my eyes open for Layers Off, the final book in The Layers Trilogy!!

✨A seductive and sinister account of outrunning your past.✨

Layers Peeled. Layers Trilogy 2. Lacey Silks
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
I bought the first book Layers Deep as it was only £1 – its now £1.99, but still worth the price...so knew the story so far when I came to this book. Book one ends in a cliffhanger type scenario, but there's a sneak at book two so the poor reader isn't left in limbo. Regular readers of my reviews will know how I HATE the cliffhanger ending so a big thanks to Lacey for at least trying to avoid that horrible negative emotion that comes with them :)
Anyway book two – Allie and Tristan are pretty close now, he's arranged a fabulous surprise for her, so that managed to take away all the horrible feelings she had that moment when he fired her. A surprise that backfired for him, but his greater one is the setting up a new dept for her and her friend Laura to run, rescuing girls abducted as Kendra was. Allie is still feeling a bit jealous of Kendra though. Now she's recovered she's stunning and though something seems to be developing with Julian, Tristan's brother, Allie can't help wondering if, despite their bad ending, Tristan may still have feelings for her.
There's lots of surprises in the book, and it bounces from surprise to drama and danger and back again. Allie, she's a danger magnet it seems and once again she gets caught up in a rescue. The past is coming back to haunt her too with David Wright, the man who raped her mum, back in the picture. Tristan thought he'd kept him away from the family but he's back – and out to hurt someone.
I really enjoyed both these books, there's some hot and steamy, sensual love scenes. That Tristan seems like right from the start when he was flirting with Allie before they'd really met, he just can't keep his hands ( and other parts!) off her. The story flows well, is easy to follow and the action from both the sex scenes and the danger is pretty hot. My only reservation is that it was all a little “light” - the jealousy Allie feels is unplaced, but I'd expected a scene or two which may have planted some suggestions of more – you know, the sort where something is misunderstood, and leads to some angst and grief for a while – I need that sort of thing to balance all the happy. Then there's the danger – it was real and felt real, but it was over so quickly that it didn't create quite the “oh no! What's going to happen now/how will she get out of this/can Tristan rescue her in time?”..... that sort of thing. Instead we got scene set up, Allie in danger and attacked, then Allie in hospital or something, and all within a few pages. I need my sad parts and dangerous plots dragged out a bit more.
Still, overall it was a good read, a nice long length – I love books like that where we can really get to know the people and plots, and together with book one this makes a hot and steamy action packed love story. There's no cliffhanger either in this one, just a perfect, happy ending. Book three will go on to tell more of the family, fill in the blanks where there was a four month gap in this book, and reveal more of Kendra and the Cross brothers history. That sounds a good read too.
Stars: four.
