Join artist Lea Lazarus Basile and poet Sue Gundlach for a bookmaking and poetry workshop and have a chance to talk to the artists about their two person exhibit on show in the library.
Opening the library's 2020 local art exhibitions will be the works of artist Lea Lazarus Basile and poet Sue Gundlach. Responding to our Times, is a two person show that will highlight both artists interest and examination into community and the multiple narratives within the term.
Join the two artists for an afternoon of creating! Basile will lead participants in creating their own zines that can be turned into structural art, while Gundlach leads an adjacent poetry workshop. Their two person show will be on display thru the end of the month and they are looking forward to speaking with participants about their work and what it means to both Evanston's community, and our national community.
Lea Lazarus Basile is an artist and educator living and working in Evanston. Working in both printmaking and paper pulp collage, Lea's world is made up of textures, shapes, and colors. She is inspired by forms in nature, the human form, and man-made architectural shapes. Lea is also interested in her community and the world around her. The recent work that Lea has created addresses how communities of people have gathered together to express concern for issues that conflict with their beliefs and rights.
Susan Gundlach’s poems have been published in many sources, including the journals After
Hours and *82 Review; the poetry tutorial The Practicing Poet; and in the walkway of the
Evanston Public Library. She co-edited the poetry anthology In Plein Air, and she has been a
judge for state poetry contests. Her children’s poems can be seen most recently in BALLOONS
Lit. Journal. She has worked with Lea Basile-Lazarus to create art/poetry exhibits that have
shown in the Chicago area. Sue lives in Evanston, Illinois, with her family, human and canine.
