Gary Lineker has issued a searing response to the MP who proposed tooth checks for refugees.

The former footballer responded to an interview with David Davies MP saying: “It’s not your teeth we want to see, it’s your heart.”

Lineker made the comment after facing a personal attack from The Sun for his stance on the furore over dental age tests for ‘child’ refugees.

The comment came as LBC’s James O’Brien used a passionate speech on his radio programme to lend his support to Lineker.

“How can you be impartial about human suffering,” O’Brien asked.

“Here is someone, Gary Lineker, who thinks that humanity, human life, is valuable. And also believes that we, as a developed nation, have a responsibility to protect it. That’s one side of the argument.”

”What’s the other side of the argument here? You have to invite someone in to say human life isn’t valuable?

“Have I got a phone in today do you think? I don’t think I have. Who would say yes of course you should argue against humanity, of course you shouldn’t express compassion in public.”

Lineker earlier admitted he was taking “a bit of a spanking” for being outspoken on the controversy.

“Things could be worse: Imagine just for a second, being a refugee having to flee from your home”

The former footballer said: “Things could be worse: Imagine just for a second, being a refugee having to flee from your home.”

Lineker’s stance was applauded online, support he later said he was “slightly overwhelmed” with.

It seemed as though everyone was keen to give Lineker support.

The Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon joined those giving credit to Lineker.

The former Labour leader Ed Miliband and former shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper added their praise.

Along with a host of political faces.
