Covid played havoc with everything, but the Winter Gardens has been fabulous again, since reopening in May 2021. We went for a look behind the scenes a few days before re-opening, to see how preparations were going –
Visit popular Mazzei Café – packages including Afternoon tea are available to pre-book on the venue’s website. The Old Victoria Bar, formally Gillow’s, features live entertainment throughout the day. Enjoy a wide selection of drinks and classic pub food.
The Box Office counter service at Church Street is where you can book in person. It’s open daily from 11am – 3pm. Don’t forget to get your theatre programme too – bet you’ve no idea how interesting their past is!

Burrow Strictly Ball – Sat 20 April at 6pm
A fabulous evening in the capital of Ballroom to support the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease and other MND causes. Rob Burrow CBE is an English former professional rugby league player who spent his entire professional career with Leeds Rhinos in the Super League, making over 400 appearances. He was one of the most successful players in the competition’s history.
In December 2019, he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) at the age of just 37. Rob has three young children and is battling hard to raise awareness and support fundraising to aid research into MND. His aspiration is to raise funds to build a new centre that will be a hub of innovation, education and excellence for MND in the region, with all MND services housed under one roof for the first time.

The 102nd British Open Spring Festival Championships – Sat 11 May at 8am
The British Open Spring Festival Championships are one of the most important series of competitions in the brass banding world.
60 bands and over 1500 performers from all parts of the UK come to the Winter Gardens to be tested on wonderful music, providing passion and virtuosity in friendly, inclusive rivalry. The three levels of competition see the bands battle for promotion, with the ultimate prize to gain qualification to the world famous British Open Championships in Birmingham in September.
The Elvis Tribute Artist World Tour – Mon 13 May at 7.30pm

Blackpool Dance Festival – 18-31 May
The Blackpool Dance Festival began in 1920 in the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
Covering a period of thirteen days, the May Blackpool Dance Festival is by far the largest of the five festivals held in Blackpool. The Festival covers Ballroom and Latin American dancing, incorporating the British Open Championships for Adult Amateur and Professional couples, plus Formation Teams. Almost 60 countries represented, and just short of 3000 entries in the 13 events!

Join us in celebrating five decades since The Temptations graced the American charts with the iconic “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”. Known for revolutionising the Motown sound, The Temptations brought lyrical depth and an abundance of instrumental content. Now, a brand-new stage show is coming to Blackpool, re-imagining their most beloved hits.

The Opera House
New, upcoming bands have played in the Opera House including the like of Little Mix. Old favourites, such as Jane McDonald and Daniel O’Donnell continue to return. Some of the world’s best bands, including Canada’s Arcade Fire, who selected the Winter Gardens as only one of three venues to play in the UK.
The Empress Ballroom
The magnificent Empress Ballroom is just as comfortable staging the World Dance Championships each year as it is hosting some of the world’s best rock and pop acts in concert.
Heritage Tours at Blackpool Winter Gardens

The Winter Gardens is an incredible building with a long history. It first opened on 11 July 1878 and since then has grown and developed as an entertainment complex which mirrors the growth of the seaside town of Blackpool.
In the centre of the complex, in what’s now the coffee shop, you can see the original building around which the whole of the Winter Gardens was built.
Blackpool Winter Gardens – A Perfect Venue for your Event
The Winter Gardens offers a wide variety of venues for events ranging from small private business lunches to large scale conferences.
You can also hold your wedding at the Winter Gardens. What could be better than a reception or banquet in the recently refurbished Derham Room? (below).
The main rooms include the 2,900 capacity Opera House (the largest theatre stage outside London), the grand Empress Ballroom with a capacity of 3,250 people for concerts, and the 2,600 sq metre Olympia Exhibition Hall.

Illuminasia was the indoor Illuminations attraction inside the Winter Gardens.
Always designed to be temporary, the doors finally closed on Sunday 29 October 2017.
