Power restored at Sunnybrook

December 23, 2013

Update- December 23, 5pm: Toronto Hydro has restored our power. We expect that our power will become fully restored throughout the evening.

Previous update:

Sunnybrook Health Science Centre's Bayview Campus remains on generator power, and we are working with Toronto Hydro to ensure our electricity is up and running as soon as possible.

For the most part, patient care is continuing to move forward as planned. Our Emergency Department, ambulatory clinics and surgery are all open and moving ahead as scheduled. The hospital is also open to care for trauma cases.

We are experiencing some difficulty with our MRI scanners but CT and other imaging devices are working. Unless patients receive a call from the hospital, they should assume their appointment is proceeding as planned.

We are running on our generators and we could be doing so for about 72 hours, however, our emergency power can run for several days.
Please be safe and exercise caution if you must go outside.

The City is operating nine Reception Centres where vulnerable residents and those who need assistance can access food, water, warmth and rest. For more information, please visit the City of Toronto website.

Keep an eye on Sunnybrook.ca for any additional updates.
