Have you ever walked into your living room only to find your cat climbing the curtains?
Are your drapes covered in tiny little holes because your cat loves to swing across the living room on them?
We’re not sure why cats love climbing curtains so much, but we do have some tips to help you to deter Kitty from this taking part in this naughty behaviour in the future.
Tie your curtains back with a rope or curtain hook. This will move the curtains out of the climbing zone.
Give Kitty other climbing options just for him, such as a cat tower or a window perch. This cat friendly furniture will distract your cat from the curtains and will keep him entertained.
Clap your hands and shout “No!” to scare him off the curtains.
**This may only be a temporary deterrent, and he may still climb the curtains when you’re not in the room.
Trim your cat’s claws on a regular basis so that they are always too dull to grab into the curtains.

My Friend’s cat climbs only her bedroom drape which is usually kept closed to keep bedroom dark. Doesn’t climb any other drapes or curtains. She has other cats which do not climb any of her drapes or curtains. My friend is wondering why this one cat does this? Any guesses welcomed.

Thanks for your question. All cats have different personalities, which is likely why only one of her cats enjoys playing with and climbing these drapes. In addition to this information, We do have a few guesses for why this particular kitty likes climbing only your friend’s bedroom drapes.
Perhaps your friend’s cat really wants to look out of this particular window, and because the drapes are kept closed at all times, the only way to get a glimpse outside is to climb the drapes. If this is the case, we suggest placing a stool or a cat tree beneath this window so that kitty doesn’t have to struggle to climb up to the window to look out.
Another idea is that maybe the fabric of these particular drapes are a fabric that this cat really likes to scratch and play with. Because the drapes are kept closed at all times on purpose, maybe your friend can somehow keep them out of kitty’s reach by lifting them off the ground by pinning them up so that they still cover the window, but are out of kitty’s reach. Or, if it’s feasible, maybe your friend can just switch the drapes in this room to a fabric that is less interesting to her cat.
Hope our ideas help. As we stated before all cats are different, so it might take some trial and error to see what works and what doesn’t to stop this curtain climbing, but we’re sure that your friend will find a solution soon.
