Snowdonia Wolves #2

A Handful of Wolf

Rate this book
When Sasha, a wolf shifter, finds his fated Mate, he can’t just walk away from her. Too bad Megan doesn’t let herself fall in love so easily. Then there’s the whole hey-I’m-really-a-wolf conversation, but how hard can that be?

Megan knows better than to let a sweet-talking charmer get under her skin, but Sasha’s sexy playfulness is making her forget all her rules. Except one: she’s not willing to risk her heart by falling in love. The gorgeous boy from Wales can only be a fling, especially since her over-protective brothers hate him on sight.

In the midst of a wolf uprising, a hesitant Mate, and Megan’s complicated family ties, Sasha learns that impulsiveness is dangerous and sometimes even lethal. Can he show Megan why they belong together before it all comes crashing down around him and he loses his Mate forever?

Loved it and I knew I would.

This is another fabulous shifter book from Sofia. Sasha is still & fun-loving and he still takes things too lightly, always with a laugh & a joke. Until the day he finally talks to her. Until he takes her hand. Until he is compelled to pull her in to taste - his wolf must have a taste - of her. One kiss and his world changes shape.

There are so many reasons to love Sofia's Snowdonia Wolves! For me, the biggest is the way Sofia's shifter books treat the "main" points most/all shifter books require. They must shift into their animal (D'UH). Shifters are inherently discreet about their very existence. Finally they must have a "mate" which is a fated partner that enhance the shifter's life as well as the life of the mate and the whole pack benefits from this.

With Sofia's wolves the change is simply magic! They feel no pain and there is no moment where they are vulnerable to attack. They simply change - hopefully after removing their clothes or else someone is gonna get an eyeful of a VERY cute butt! Sofia's Snowdonia Wolves are thought to exist in the Welsh highlands as myth or legend but if you need them they do exist for those moments. Otherwise her wolves are inherently private with their lives even if they go marry a rock star (check out her first book Wolf at the Door (Snowdonia Wolves, #1) by Sofia Grey if you don't believe me.

It is the "forever together destined mate" idea that takes front and center stage in this the second book in the series. Sasha cannot believe it when the "idea" of Megan being his mate pops into his head - he dismisses it completely since he is too young and nowhere near ready for mates and kids and all those "adult" things. When it does sink in he is a little wary still but, being raised on mate lore his whole life, likes the idea of being with Megan for the rest of his life. Megan, on the other hand, is simply confused by the feelings of "home" and "safety" that she feels in Sasha's arms. She fights those for all she's worth because she is afraid of getting her heart broken again. She has no complaints of a "fling" with Sasha while he is in NZ but once he is gone her life will go back to its boring normalness.

This story approached mates in a different way than usual - it wasn't that either of these two were fighting the mating bond they simply did not realize what it actually meant for either of them. They had no concept of what "sharing your life" actually means beyond packing for a sleepover at "a friends place". Megan had never placed anyone or anything in her life above her family and their ideals and their plans for her - she has never had to make any choices like that before. Sasha knew that he would have a mate someday but he never comprehended that he could and would but someone else's happiness above his own. Or that his impulsive "instant gratification" nature would be overruled by his head and his heart for the same reasons - Megan.

The joy of this story was watching them laugh and play and look into each other's eyes and realize that maybe, just maybe they weren't playing that much (wait till you hear Sasha's explanation for their relationship)! To see them struggle against becoming "us", never realizing that it is the struggle that makes it all worthwhile.

Book three please and thank you Ms. Sofia.

Full disclosure: I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. Also full disclosure: I’ve only read one other shifter book, but I know they are hugely popular and wanted to see what all the hubbub was about. So, this was me reading out of my comfort zone.

A Handful of Wolf– 4 1/2 Shooters. This book will certainly give you a book hangover.

For a full rating scale breakdown, see my "Me Reviewing Books" page at www.kimbervale.wordpress.com.

Now, on with the review!

"A Handful of Wolf" is a well-written ride that starts out smokin’ hot and then kicks into overdrive. Megan meets Sasha when the construction worker bets a buddy he can get a kiss from her. It doesn’t take long for him to realize this girl is different from the many before. Pretty soon he recognizes that difference—she’s his mate. I loved how Megan wasn’t Sasha’s usual type, but he fell ass over teakettle for her in a very brief time nonetheless.

The fact that their love affair takes place within just a few short days didn’t put me off as it might in some books. It was well-handled and seemed to me that they knew each other much longer. Megan is also a realist at the end and wants to spend more time together to see where it leads, not “This is it! We’re mates!” and I appreciated that (even though this is it and they are mates).

There was a little nod to "Romeo and Juliet" to add to the tension. Megan is the daughter of a prominent and well-off politician, while Sasha is slugging it on the wrong side of the tracks (don’t worry—turns out he’s got mad prospects and social consciousness to make up for his lack of affluence—Booyah!). Add in a jilted ex (Megan’s) and a tense meeting between two different shifter packs, throw in a rogue wolf and his evil minions hell-bent on breaking/enforcing the rules, and mysterious sympathetic pains between Sasha and his twin sister, and you have a recipe for a fast-paced read with pockets of scorching hot mate on mate boot-knocking.

I loved how Megan wondered if she would turn into a werewolf after being bit. Apparently she has also read more werewolf books than shifter books. ;-) The thought had crossed my mind as well (doh!). I was intrigued by the whole mating bond thing and found myself wondering what happens if a mated pair is separated for a long period of time. A slow and miserable death, I’ll wager! Please write one like that next, Sofia, only the lovers don’t die at the end, they get back together. Think of the angst! :)

Both Megan and Sasha were likable and realistic characters, each with their own faults and their own baggage, which made them three-dimensional and totally relatable. I was sympathetic toward both, and found myself rooting for their happily ever after the whole way through.

I thoroughly enjoyed Sofia Grey’s "A Handful of Wolf" and plan to read the rest of the series now that she has me hooked. The small spurts of information about Sasha’s Alpha had me curious to know what his story was. If anyone is like me and hasn’t already read the first book in the series, have no fear—this one stands alone just fine. Don’t hesitate to pick it up. And if you love wolf shifters, well this is definitely the book for you.

FOUR AND A HALF STARS

Sasha Llewellyn
Megan

Woo Hoo Sofia has given us Sexy Shifters Situated in New Zealand!
Sasha has moved from his native Wales to New Zealand to liase with the New Zealand wolf packs. Interesting move, Ms Grey, one I didn't see coming!
Sasha is drawn to Meagn from the get go, but Meagan fights any attraction she feels for him.
Their first night out together, they settle on some unique nicknames for each other, after Sasha tells Megan's friends a folk tale, of how and why the couple are suddenly together. Sasha takes his liaise with Megan very seriously, including her new nickname, as his wolf side screams for her, but Megan seems to be playing with him. Sasha is full on ready to settle down now that he's met his mate, but how to tell her that!

There are issues with rogue pack of kiwi wolves, and its going to be interesting to see just where that goes. After Sasha tries to explain himself to Megan, that he has claimed her and she is "kidnapped" things start to fall apart for the couple. Megan being totally confused by everything, and Sasha convinced the only way to keep her safe, is for him to return to Wales early, and without her, to face his fateful decline alone.

As always with Sofia Grey's books, we have a well written, entertaining, and sometimes lighthearted and emotional read. Great characters add to the continuing story, Megan is a no crap kinda gal, and Sasha is a deep feeling male in love with his mate, and we have the added bonus of a bit of intrigue, with what's going on among the New Zealand shifters.

Great read, and I'm ready for more.

Handful of Wolf is a great book. It’s well written, sexy and has lots of funny moments. A great follow-up to Wolf at the Door.

I love Sasha and Megan. What I especially love about Megan is she’s strong, independent and doesn't take crap from anyone. I love strong heroines. My fave scene with Megan happens on page 3 when she knees Sasha in the balls.

I also love that the author doesn't make it easy for her characters. For the shifters, mates are fated and therefore they know instantly when they meet their mate, but when their mate is human, things don’t go so smoothly. The author doesn’t create any easy solutions and instead makes the characters work for their relationship and therefore provides a very believable HEA.

The only thing that I didn’t like about the book was that the last 30% felt a bit rushed. Things all of a sudden started happening too quickly and problems were solved a little too easily and the ending came around far too fast. Unfortunately, it wasn’t an issue of me being so into the book that the ending came around and I just didn’t want it to end, it was a case of I feel like there was part of the book missing.

All in all, I loved the book. Sofia Grey is one of my fave authors. I can’t wait to read her next Wolf book.

I recommend Handful of Wolf to any PNR/shifter fans looking for a quick & easy read with some steamy hot sex and guaranteed HEA.

4,5 stars, tbh

Full disclosure: Sofia gave me an ARC of this book. Well, an AC, actually, because she didn't even ask for a review; she just did me a favor by offering me a free copy, because she knows I adore her writing.

A Handful of Wolf was no exception to the rule that says anything this woman writes I will love-love-love!

Sasha is yummy and irresistible, and Megan is just the right amount of spunky and sassy. Sofia's world-building is unique, and keeps the reader interested--even though I'm usually not that into shifters (vampires are my main thing)--and the city itself gets a life of its own. I fell in love with NZ as I was falling in love with Sasha and Megan's relationship.

(As for why this was a 4,5 star and not a 5 star book for me, that's just because I needed to give Sofia's Talisman series a higher rating still.)

This is book 2 in the Snowdonia Wolf series it could be read as a standalone too. I loved book 1 and have been waiting for this one.

In this book we meet Sasha a hot blue eyed hunk that are on an adventure/work thing in New Zealand. He is enjoying his time as long as his Pack Alpha is not bugging him to be a diplomat between the pack in Wales and New Zealand. Sasha just wants to have a good time travel and experience new places. He most definitely is not looking for his mate. But in walks Megan a strong independent woman that takes shit from no one and most defiantly not from a flirty Welsh guy. Megan comes from an important family and is used to being responsible. She is also currently dating the most boring man on earth, chosen by her family as the “perfect” man for her. So a strange Welsh dud working in construction is not what she thought she wanted in life.

The dialog between the hero/heroine is fun and filled with fast snappy conversations with lots of humor loved it. The meeting of her family is pretty fun. The story itself was fast paced and the plot was good.
I did think the book ended a bit to abruptly, I would have liked to have an epilog telling me if they moved to New Zealand or stayed in Wales. I would also have liked to know more about the grandmother that is mentioned several times. Where does she come into this shifter world because I got the distinct feeling she knew something.

This is the first book I read set in New Zealand and that was pretty exotic and fun to read for a Norwegian. Love to learn about the place a culture.

I give this book 4,5 stars.
I was provided with an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Sasha's not a looking-to-the-future kind of guy, but he's made an exception with his plans to travel and meet lots of pretty girls. Too bad his Pack Alpha, fate, and reality have other ideas about his trip abroad. He's pretty sure he didn't sign on to be a diplomat for the Snowdonia Wolf Pack. Or to find a Mate. Especially not a human Mate. Megan knows better than to let a sweet-talking charmer get under her skin, but Sasha's sexy playfulness is making her forget all her rules. Except one: she's not willing to risk her heart by falling in love. The gorgeous boy from Wales can only be a fling, especially since her over-protective brothers hate him on sight.

Megan is not ready to trust any man and has rules she follows, especially after being deeply hurt by her first love. She also takes her father and his political aspirations in mind. Sasha thinks he has plenty of time to travel and meet girls before he settles down with a Fated Mate. only, when he touches Megan he receives the shock of his life. Now he is trying to liaison for Jake, gets threatened by a brooding Alpha, and trying to convince Megan he wants more with her. I love these books are focused on one couple, but there is an underlying story through them all. The Snowdonia Pack is in danger and many are not happy Jake mated with a human. I hope we can read more about Megan and Sasha in further books.

Ask and ye shall receive! I wanted the second book in this series, and I’ve found it, read it, and am now happy to review it for you! The bad news? Now I have to wait patiently for the next book. Because this book was another win!

Sasha is a bit out of his element, being sent over to New Zealand to talk with the wolf pack over there, and meets his very human mate, Megan. Sasha is a bit of a sweet man, strong and alpha, but he just melts around Megan. Megan is a pretty kick butt character as well, but took a little bit of convincing to believe the whole shifter thing. She comes with some personal baggage as far as relationships go, so trust is another element to deal with. Side note: don’t you love it when they think their mate is a lunatic? The whole, “Don’t upset the crazy person” dance makes me laugh. There is a whole lot of things going on in New Zealand, and I can’t wait to find out more about Connor and his pack. What the heck does Purity mean?

Anyway, I would highly recommend giving this book a read, I thoroughly enjoyed it! You don’t have to read a Wolf at the Door to know what is going on in this book, but you should anyway, because it’s awesome!

4/5 flaming hearts for sensuality.

What do you get when you add a sexy wolf shifter, a strong and stubborn heroine and Sofia Grey's sensual writing style? A wonderful new book from an incredible author...A Handful of Wolf continues with Jake's womanizer cousin, Sasha, who was introduced to us in Jake's story, Wolf at the Door. Sasha is your typical playboy and is not planning on settling down. Until he meets an unusual woman and as soon as they touch, he knows that he has found his Mate. This is a beautifully told story with sizzling-hot sexual chemistry between the hero and heroine. Nicely done, Sofia! Can't wait to read more from this incredibly talented new author!

This one was enjoyable.

I liked Sasha. He was amusing, and a bit of a dip at times (though understandably so).

Whats-her-face.... seriously I've already forgotten her name.... was.... well... she was alright. She didn't piss me off too much, but she didn't blow smoke up my skirt either.

I do however look forward to the next one, and will probably start it right away since the next one is their story continued.

Love this series!!! Sasha is shocked to discover that his mate is a human. Megan has no idea that shifters exist but she keeps dreaming about wolves....I love this concept of the series. The two quickly fall for one another but Megan has insecurities from past relations & Sasha has some dangerous pack business thrown in his lap by his alpha. The two have some hurdles but whether they like it or not their love for one another isn't one of them, lol.

I do like a good kiwi story

This mostly traditional mythology has Wolf shifters born not made and pretty much in the closet when it comes to humans. But when Sasha meets Megan the chemistry is smoking, no matter that she’s human. A mysterious baddie brings some action to this falling in love paranormal, but the characters make it a good read.

This is a short read, so the author crammed what she could in the story. I liked the story. Will read more in series.
