This book had a lot more twists and turns than I excepted...which I loved. I was fully prepared for a sinfully hot affair between Sydney and her sexy English Professor, but it turned out to be much more. There were so many deeper elements to this story other than a student/teacher affair. I love when I get asked to review a new author's book and stumble upon an amazing treasure! You can tell right from the beginning that Sydney's story had a darkness to it. She didn't dress up or really have any friends except Henry. She was quite literally a beautiful wallflower waiting to have love make her blossom. Sydney had harbored an intense crush on her English Professor, but of course never imagined it would actually manifest into anything. The last day of the semester was here and she was filled with a bit of sadness that she wasn't ever going to see her sexy prefessor again. When she got home she had received a very unexpected email from said professor, which gave her a much needed lift to her deflating spirit.

"Call him Paul? No way. I can't think of him as Paul. Not yet, at least. Part of the appeal, after all, is the fact that he's my professor. I bet he'd like it if I dressed up as a schoolgirl in a teeny pleated, plaid skirt. I'm sure he would teach me a lesson or two!" -Sydney

Sydney continues a back and forth chat with Professor Sparling, that quickly takes a scorching hot turn to sexy town. In the meantime, she gets much needed advice from her best friend, Henry. They have been friends since she started college. Despite their closeness, she has still not divulged her deep dark secret past that brought her there in the first place. Henry accepts her as is, and loves her still. Sydney begins to get little hints of her relationship with Henry beginning to change as she continues with her email affair with professor sex appeal. She becomes more confused as things begin to escalate with both Professor Sparling via email and her conflicting thoughts of Henry.

"If he were going to be jealous of someone it should be Professor Sparling, who is the only man I've fantasized about in years. But I'm getting carried away again with my thoughts of Henry. I remind myself that Henry has zero reason to be jealous of any man in my life. He and I are not a couple. We've never even talked about getting together. We have always and only been best friends." -Sydney

One steamy photo shoot leads to the wall of Sydney and Henry's friendship to come crashing down. She had an assignment from Professor Sparling, to send some sexy pics and Henry graciously volunteered his services. Wowza, that was one sizzling loin burning interaction! They had officially changed their relationship, but neither of them were too concerned because their bodies were drawn to each other like magnets, and they couldn't fight the pull any longer. Henry had loved Sydney from afar for a long time, but he knew she wasn't ready to have any sort of relationship because of her past.

"I'm leaving an ecstatic realm and coming back to reality, but it's not the same reality it was a few hours ago. I feel different, like I was the filthy window of an abandoned house that's been reoccupied, and now I've been washed sparkling clean. I feel reborn. I feel free." - Sydney

You can see how much of a change Henry has helped Sydney achieve with his affection and love. They fall right into a wonderful sync, like they have just been unknowingly waiting for all their stars to align. It feels so right for both of them. Even though, Henry was pretty much a wam-bam-thank-you-ma'am kind of guy before, he is more than happy to have Sydney as his girlfriend. He was just passing time with all the others...always waiting for Sydney.

"You're the most beautiful thing on earth, Sydney," he says as his eyes slowly scan my body. "Do you have any idea how much this intimacy with you means to me?" -Henry

Well, things seem to be going fantastic right? That is until her past comes crawling back into her present, no matter how much she has tried to keep it buried. That isn't the only thing that comes in to reek havoc on their newly blossoming love. You will have to read to find out what happens with all the sexy confusing feelings flying wildly all over the place!

Even though I hate endings that leave me desperate for more, I thought Emma ended this book perfectly...leaving you wanting all your burning questions to be answered in the next book. It isn't a crazy cliffhanger that has you screaming and shaking your fists in the air, but leaves with just the right amount of angst. This book is pretty much promoted as a hot student/teacher affair and that alone should reel you in to reading it, but it really has so many more levels that make you appreciate it so much more. It is really well written and I have to tip my imaginary hat off to Emma Lauren (which is something I don't do very often). The next book is sure to be filled with just as much, passion, angst, and self-discovery. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to my fellow readers. Eagerly awaiting the next book, When It's Over, coming in May 2014!

This was a 3.5 star read for me. Review contains some mild spoilers.

Sydney Morrison is majorly crushing on her older, sexy Professor daily, but never does anything about it. Her best friend Henry has had to listen to her swooning over Professor Sparling for months. When college ends for Christmas, and Sydney's lectures with her professor end for good, she's feeling a lot sorry for herself.

Henry

Until, that is, she receives an email from Professor Starling, and things start to get hot and heavy through their emails. Her sexuality is awakened, and her new found confidence causes Henry to admit his feelings, and this is when the real sexy times begin!

Professor Sparling

In the background, another storyline that's playing out is Sydney's poor relationship with her mother, and her father making his presence known for the first time in her life.

What I liked about this book:

*I liked the general storyline, and I thought that things were going to turn out much more different and predictable than they did.
*Besides a few diction mistakes, I felt this book was very well written, and flowed great.
*Henry. Yum, yum, yum. The kind of friend EVERY girl needs!
*The sex scenes were hot, and the sexual tension between Sydney and Henry just before they get it on was very sexy. They had great chemistry throughout the book.
*It was set around Christmas, my favourite time of the year! There's something extra special about a love blossoming around Christmas!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

What I didn't like about the book was:

*Sydney was a bit whiny for my liking. And this fainting nonsense really gets on my nerves.
*I still don't get why Sydney didn't trust Henry enough to tell him about her past, especially when Jake and Professor Sparling knew. This didn't make sense to me, and I feel it's only purpose was to create an issue between Sydney and Henry.
*Sydney was suspicious about every battered looking car that parked in the vicinity of her home, yet she wasn't in the slightest bit suspicious about 'Professor Sparling' emailing her from a personal email account.
*I still didn't get why Sydney was so closed off to dating. Maybe I missed something........

But, having said all that, I still enjoyed it, and I look forward to reading the sequel 'When It's Over' when it comes out in May.

well i don't know about you.. but the student crush on the sexy teacher, and then the whole taboo part of it is a definite like for me where stories go... and this little crush definitely gets a little steamy.... in emails...lol

the hot hot steaminess is with the ever faithful and good friend Harry... lucky lucky Sydnet.. let me tell you!!

Sydney.... let me tell you.. she has a secret... i won't tell you the secret.. but oh wow!!! shocking!!!

i really liked this story, mostly because it wasn't predictable.... for a debut author, the writing in this book jus flowed beautifully...

came very close to 5 stars... only thing that really knocked it down was it ends in one hell of a cliffy!!! i hate cliffy's!!!

definitely is still worth reading... cliffy or not!!!

This book was...definitely something. I liked it....It was an interesting story, but damn, some of it is pretty screwed up. This poor little girl! Sydney, college student, trying to get away from the past....she pretty much comes off as numb for the most part. She starts an email relationship with the professor after the semester is over....hot, and steamy, exciting and very erotic - exactly what she needs in her life, he makes her open up, he makes her feel.....And then there's Henry - her best friend, who absolutely adores her. Hes pretty great, except when he isn't.

Its definitely something to read. I am looking forward to seeing the outcome in the sequel.

This book is a GREAT and hot read! If I had known it was this good I would have read it the minute it hit my inbox! I started reading and didn't leave my chair until I was done. I had to know what was going to happen next between Sydney and her dangerously sexy professor. The writing was pure sensual prose that wrapped me up in the emotions and feeling Sydney was going through. Having two sexy guys in the mix certainly didn't hurt either! Tall, dark and handsome strikes again!

I received this story from the author for an unbiased review, but I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel of which I'm willing to pay for!

Happily give this a 5 star rating!

Good story even though it was kind of obvious who Sydney was communicating with. The pace of the story was good and didn't drag. But I wasn't prepared for this to be a series and now I'm disappointed that I have to wait until May to see what happens next.

Sydney is one semester away from graduating from Addison College and not really sure what the future holds for her. She doesn't have a close relationship with her mother and she's never actually met her dad. Due to events that have happened back at home, she doesn't have a large circle of friends at school and spends a lot of time with her best friend Henry.

For the past 14 weeks, she's been in a creative writing class with a professor that she's attracted to and has dreams about getting him to notice her, so she's beyond ecstatic when he leaves her a rave review on the last essay that she writes for the class and even more excited when she discovers an email from him in her inbox, praising her again and telling her to keep in touch with him even though the class has ended. Feeling more confident in flirting with him behind the safety of her computer screen than in person, she finds herself in the midst of a serious cyber flirtation, which quickly escalates. Henry knows all about her crush on the professor and has been encouraging her to continue the online fliration and even helps her by taking pictures of her in compromising positions. But the photography session heats up between Henry and Sydney and she is surprised to find that she has begun to have feelings for her best friend and even more surprised to find that he too has had feelings for her all along. So where does leave things between her and the professor?

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read, but it packed steam and emotions and even though I was able to figure out certain aspects before they were revealed there were a few unexpected twists and turns along the way. Without giving away any spoilers, there's a part of Sydney's past that comes out and helps to explain why she has such a hard time trusting people and why she hasn't been able to tell people her deepest darkest secrets.

I liked Sydney but I really loved Henry. I know he had his reasons for his actions so I was able to overlook certain things that came out near the end of the book. I'm a little sad that it ended with a cliffhanger because I was really hoping that things would work out for Sydney and the man that she chose, so I'll be keeping my eye out for book #2, When It's Over to see what happens next.

WHEN IT'S LOVE by Emma Lauren
(Book one)
4 1/2 out of 5

I was truly caught up in this story. Emma does a great job on keeping you guessing. You always have the feeling that you may know what's going on but doubt is always in play. Emma also does a great job in keep each scene hot and steamy, from Sydney's online fantasy chats and her meetings with Henry, each will have you taking a break to caught your breath. Sydney is a college student who has had a rough life. After graduating high school, she learns of a heart breaking secret regarding her identity from Mom and dad's past. That horrible news changes everything for Sydney. Due to these new facts she breakes up with her high school boyfriend and falls into a depression.
This story picks up when Sydney is desperate to gain the attention of her college writing professor. The semester is wrapping up and Sydney is running out of time to attempt to get him to finally notice her. It has been a long awhile that she has had feeling for someone. For the longest time she had been doing her best to achiever the opposite and blend in to go unnoticed by anyone around her. That is until the last day of class that her 'crush on' professor has made an interest in her final paper when he stopped her for a brief moment to compliment her. That private moment made Sydney relight her inner flame. 3.5 stars!

I enjoy the taboo of student/teacher romances and when this new author popped up on my radar, I couldn't resist. I devoured this book in one sitting during holiday break with the kids and have thought about it since.

As the book blurb describes, Sydney has a huge crush on her teacher Professor Sparling but to me it seems more like unrequited love. Her best friend, rich and handsome best friend Henry Hart is the only one that knows of her crush. When her professor starts showing an interest in Sydney, I am happy with the confidence she starts to feel in herself in being desirable and forthcoming.

I am immediately curious as to this secret that Sydney is hiding even from her best friend. Unfortunately Sydney has no relationship with her mother and as the book progresses, I am saddened even more that her mother shows no real interest, emotion or love towards her daughter.

I enjoy some of the scenes that go back into Sydney's past with her ex-boyfriend Jake and you get a look into what her young self was like prior to her finding out her secret or not being so emotionally close to men.

As I continue to read and the secrets come out - BAM! I am shocked beyond belief! Now I will not reveal anything as I do feel that this is a book that you must read on your own but I do want to say that this is something that is very different in the New Adult genre and I enjoyed it immensely!

There were some things that didn't work for me in this book - namely the length. I do feel that more could have been explained throughout the book. Though the sex was FREAKIN HOT, I wanted more connection between the characters, more intensity, something more than just the physical.

I thought the premise was different though student/teacher relationships have been done before and the writing was excellent. Emma Lauren is definitely a new author to be on the lookout for....I can not WAIT for book 2 as I need to see where the author will take this story and how it will all end up.

This was a great debut novel for a new author that had passion, secrets, suspense AND some pretty hot guys - what more could you look for in a book?!

Holy mother of all cliffhangers!!!!!

I'm still kind of stunned, so please humor me a minute here.
(I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.)

First, this book held me hostage from the very beginning. It has a thriller-like vibe to it, and at times is very mysterious. Sydney is very introverted and withdrawn from social contact (which makes her a bit näive or juvenile at times) except for Henry, her best friend.  She is a brilliant writer and despite the fact that there is some mystery in the beginning as to the full extent of Sydney's story, she is witty and funny. Henry is the super-loyal, hilarious, and ever-present best friend. Who the author may or may not have mentioned is scorching hot. He's an adorable character in the beginning, when all of a sudden....

Wow.... These sex scenes..... Henry turns into this astoundingly hot, sexy and sweet perfect lover who will without a doubt melt your panties and your heart. He also has a slight dominating side to him that makes him even better.

Things heat up quickly, and even at the threat of impending danger, Sydney finds herself at the best moment in her life. Or is it?

I love how the author played with Sydney's POV , as it is entirely told on her side. She goes from swooning student, to a girl with a dark past, to good friend, to amazing crazy in love girlfriend, all the while discovering herself but still hanging to an identity that is out of her control. Just when things begin to unravel and the mysteries keep getting deeper, the book just stopped. Like that. (snapped my fingers)

I'm still deciding what to say about the major cliffhanger, because while the book is amazingly written, that is one hell of a way to end a book. Not only do you not know what really happened to Sydney, but her issue with Henry is left in the dark.

One word to describe this book…HOT! Another one, STEAMY! I was enthralled with the story from the very beginning and the author definitely kept me guessing!

Sydney is a seemingly normal college student, who just happens to have a huge crush on her much-older and extremely sexy professor. She has a pretty drab wardrobe and tries hard not to draw attention herself. The only person she wants to notice her is Professor Starling. He, however, seems far more interested in the sexy blonde who dresses in far more fashionable clothes. For her last assignment of the class Sydney decided to spill her guts in an emotional essay that explains her secrets which she has revealed to no one, not even her best friend Henry.

After thinking that any chance with professor hottie is unfeasible now that the class is over, she receives a very nice email from him about her essay which escalates in full-on flirting. His self-esteem boosting emails galvanize her to adopt a much sexier wardrobe. The emails become more and more tempestuous and eventually escalate into sending nude pictures of herself. All the while, her best friend Henry is encouraging her and offering advice. As her fantasy cyber relationship with professor hottie builds, the sparks start to fly between her and Henry.

There are a lot of secrets to be uncovered.

“If the man you think you’re in love with deceived you, would you forgive him?”

Can Sydney get over the heart-breaking deceit, considering he had her best interest at heart the entire time?

“Forgiveness takes courage and strength”

A 5-star read! I look forward to reading the continuation of the story.

Review
When it’s Love by Emma Lauren Sydney Morrison has a dark secret that keeps her from dating. She is deeply depressed and trusts no one. Sydney does have a best friend, Henry that she cares about. Sydney confides in Henry that she has had an uber crush on her older but sexy English teacher, Professor Sparling. The Professor and Sydney start sharing sexual emails this helps Sydney become out of her shell. Then all of sudden her relationship with Henry becomes complicated. What will Sydney do?
I have received in exchange as honest review.
First of all let me say this CLIFFHANGER!!! Ugh! Emma Lauren is an amazing writer this book had me deeply involved with the characters. I love the friendship of Sydney and Henry it funny and caring. While reading you knows there is something wrong and it keeps you guessing. I loved and hated the rollercoaster ride equally. The emails were hot and the sexual scenes where to die for. However, I did think that some of this was very predictable. I did think the author was clever on making you guess if you are correct.
You will really feel scared when something from Sydney past that could put her in danger; that left me on the end of my bed ready to throw my Kindle. I would have to say my favorite part of this book is seeing Sydney changing throughout the book and you will have to read to figure out what happens. I can’t wait until May for When it’s Over.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

"When It's Love" starts out quickly and things heat up quite fast. Henry and Sydney are best friends without the benefits and you soon get a feel that Henry would like it to be best friends with all the benefits. Sydney however, is a fairly damaged soul and she has no self confidence and suffers from a mother who has absolutely no love for her. There is a reason behind this but I do not want to write a spoiler into this so I will leave it out.

As the story progresses you see that Sydney has a very large crush on Professor Paul Sparling. This whole subject of teacher/student romance was an interesting part of the read and I loved it. Once the teacher starts to show an interest in Sydney, her best friend Henry steps in and declares that he has always wanted Sydney. The sex between Sydney and Henry is HOT and I really enjoyed this part of the book. Henry is hot, rich and downright dominant in the bedroom but is caring and sweet also.

As you read on the story becomes more and more interesting and the plot thickens with secrets, suspense and a cliff hanger ending. I really enjoyed this book and gave it 5 stars. I am looking forward to the next book in the series "When It's Over" which is due out in May 2014.

This book is a great read. I read this book in one setting. It had everything you need in a book. It had a girl that wasn’t so sure about herself, a professor (I mean who doesn’t like professors), and a hottie. It also was full of drama.
Sydney was a girl I think we can all say we can feel her insecurities. She has a problem with feeling sexy. It does stem from her past but really I always feel like I am not sexy. Her secret is something I never would have guessed. She does have help growing into her sexiness though, although it is filled with some setbacks.
Henry is a friend to Sydney. She is the luckiest girl to have him in her life. He is HOT too. Why didn’t I have friends like Henry????? He is someone in her life who stabilizes her but of course he has to mess too.
Now the professor I would like to know more about. I love me some professors. Can we say HAWT!!!!!!
I am giving this book 4 hearts. It is a cliffhanger and I am soooooooooooooooooooooo ready for the sequel.

MY THOUGHTS~
I chose to read this book because I won it in a giveaway and it looked interesting.
Interesting it was! I enjoyed the story for the most part. I always love a good "friends-to-lovers" story. The heroine seemed so confused with her feelings and what she wanted through the majority of the book. Plus, this is not a really long book (173 pages), so I feel like a lot more could've been done with it if it had been longer. However, it may have been intentionally made that way in order to prepare us for a sequel. I would definitely read the sequel though.

When I first read the synopsis and saw it was a teacher student possible relationship, I thought hmmmm Scandalous? Yes Please! Sydney definitely is dealing with a lot of demons that seem to keep her from being the girl to step outside the box. When she takes a step towards revealing her feelings for her crush, she really starts to open up. With the help of Henry...her GUY friend. Then new relationships form after some picture taking sessions and emails...and the twist...
I felt that the story was a little slow at first, BUT it really took off after halfway. I started picking up on things and had a feeling of how the end was going to happen, but that's ok. What I think, isn't always how the author makes it out to be. I found myself hanging at the end wanting more of the story and where Sydney and her love interest are going next! Great twist to a short and sweet story!

I enjoyed this book. I really liked Henry. Sydney's character is sweet, but a little juvenile. She's sending sexy emails to her college professor that she has a crush on. The emails get pretty heated and photos are included, but when she runs into him in town, he doesn't act like he's aware of their heated emails. The whole time, her best friend Henry who has been by her side is always there supporting her. He even gives her advise for the professor. Then a twist to the story and we're left waiting until When it's Over the next book that will be released in May. I'm pulling for Henry. He loves her and has always been there.

*My Review*

First off I thought this was a cute read...u know when looking at the cover & a cellphone it had to be interesting.I thought the writing was good for her first novel.I had a feeling Someone was deceiving Sydney. As for her father & mother I want to know more. The letters & threats were conflicting.

As for Henery I think he's going to have to fight for what he wants. As for sexting that's a big no no!Shes lucky she knew Henery got pics & not her stalker. Im eager to read the next book. The next book I hope it shines more light onto Sydney's Mom & Dad that last note just didn't act right.I think her mom is lying about something.Cant wait to read!

This was a great read. It contained a lot of twists that I think a typical student/teacher relationship encounter. However, this was one hell of a steamy read. It is about Sydney and her English professor, Professor Sparling.

The characters have great chemistry. The story does involves a bit of a love triangle, as the professor and Sydney's best friend, Henry, are competing for her affections. Sydney is a strong character with passion, and heart. Professor Sparling is just hot, and smart. Henry is cute and lovable.

There was a bit of a cliffhanger. Can't wait to read book two to see how the student/teacher relationship is handled.

One word: Professor.

It started out good, with potential to be great. But it just kind of fell flat for me. A big part of it was there was a huge secret Sydney was hiding and every time it was brought up, we only get very vague glimpses of what happened in her past. But it was confusing, and exhausting, although I was able to figure it out pretty early on.

Aside from that, the storyline was good, and held my attention and kept me reading even when I shouldn't have been. It alternates between past and present and we see how Sydney's relationship with her family falls apart as well as her relationship with Jake, a former boyfriend.

But...

Henry. The best friend. Oh Henry. I must say, my favorite part of the book was when he pulled his camera out. I won't elaborate anymore on that, you will just have to read that part for yourself!

There is some twists and turns towards the end, but, I don't know. It felt just a little rushed for me. Then at the end, I find out there is a cliffhanger, as the story is not resolved.

After reading the synopsis of book two, I am excited to get it. But I recommend not reading what book two is about until reading this first, (I tend to do that from times, surely I am not the only one) so you are not spoiled!

Titillating. Mind-boggling. Pure sin.

Such rich, and utterly sensual material. Really got my full attention and kept me at the end of my seat. Loved how the reader kept the reader guessing and a bit in the dark about Sydney's tragic past. Finding out who she really is and why her mom is the way she is. Most writers explain it all in the beginning, but Sydney's backdrop gradually came to light whenever certain things would trigger memory.

It gave the writer the chance of elaborating the main character's situation with a better understanding for the reader. I, honesty, was able to put two and two together in the very beginning and new the truth behind the emails Sydney received and Henry's behavior and need to stake claim whenever he got the chance. I feel sorry for Sydney having a past without much needed love and nurture, even her grandparents were a bit stand-offish, much less her mother. The words were so raw with emotion that I felt it all coming off at me in waves. The love scenes were extremely well written, for some it is hard to not come off as corny or porn-y, but rest assured it was enticing to read and flowed deliciously.

In the end, I wondered what Sydney was going to do about Henry, and if she will be able to overcome what he did, but it seems that the answer will be in the sequel.

Overall, I really enjoyed this quick read and totally recommend it. I'm looking forward to the next step Sydney takes in the sequel When It's Over. Thank you Emma Lauren for allowing me to read your story, keep up the good work!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Well hot damn, talk about a cliffhanger!

At first it wasn't that obvious to me, but after reading of the messages, I realized what was really going on. It didn't make sense that if Henry is supposed to be Sydney's best friend, why couldn't she tell him about her past? I could somewhat understand Jake knowing, but that's because Jake knew her back then. The beginning of the story Sydney got on my nerves with how juvenile she was acting, but once I understood how the secrets she learned affected her psychologically, it was easier to have a bit more sympathy for her.

The online chats and messages are pretty damn hot! But how will it all end? Stay tuned folks, the next installment isn't out till May. Which sucks because it still seems so far away, but the new book will be a lovely birthday gift to myself :)

3.5
really really wanted to give a 4 even a 4.5 because it a worthy book.
But where I didn't like it... was the spanning. it took so long for the story to kick in. or it was me I couldn't wait for the story to unfold before me.
I got my 2 suspicions right before 50% mark in the book. yeah

I really hope I will be able to read the next installment soon.
I truly expect a good ending for Henry and her !!! even with the email thing it will be hard to trust but it came from good and not really selfish purpose. it must have been hard for him.
And I can't wait for more realle P.S. she would face a dilemma.

* A gifted copy was provided by author/publisher for an honest review *

Sydney Morrison was just an average college student. With a super hot writing instructor. 14 weeks with this hot man was a little much for her as she would daydream while he was teaching. She would tell her best friend, Henry, about all of the thoughts she had about him and he had an idea. But would it be such a good idea?

Emma Lauren has written one hot little novel here. Between the hotness, the desire, the mystery and suspense, Emma keeps you going all the way through. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next segment to see what happens next.
