XFX Unveils Silent Radeon R7 200 Series Graphics Cards

The first passive-cooled Radeon R7 200 series graphics cards have finally been revealed by the XFX and to spice things up, two new cards at the same time have been introduced with the full-height Radeon R7 250 Core Edition, and the half-height (low-profile) Radeon R7 240 Core Edition which can now be seen in pictures on many websites. The half-height PCB design is becoming quite common now and this is what the cards have been based on for the 28 nm “Oland” GPU. But because the R7 250 has higher thermal loads, it features the taller heat sink which makes the card full-height.

The R7 250 Core Edition comes with the AMD reference clock speeds of 1050 MHz core and the memory has been clocked at 4.60 GHz. It has been equipped with a GDDR5 memory of 1 GB which has been spread across a128-bit wide memory interface. The card is also loaded with an effective cooling solution which features a heat-pipe fed aluminum fin stack. The card has been priced at €92.

Moving on to the R7 240 Core Edition, it is maintaining the same PCB design but when it comes to the cooling solution, this one does it with a more compact form. And this is what makes the card low-profile ready. Priced at €75, it has AMD reference clock speeds of 780 MHz core and its DDR3 memory of 2 GB is clocked at 1.80 GHz memory.
