The Pebble Hills Spartans scored a win key District 1-6A game Friday night over Coronado and remain undefeated at 5-0. Their next opponent will be Americas High School.

There were several key football games in the borderland last Friday, and here is a look at of the things fans may have missed.

Coronado knocks off Eastwood

Ninth-ranked Coronado improved to 2-1 in District 1-6A with a hard-fought 43-35 win on the road vs. Eastwood.

The Thunderbirds made some key stops on defense when they had to and got big games on offense and special teams from all-around standout Jose Luis Herrera and quarterback Angelo Donatelli.

Herrera scored twice, including once on a kickoff return, while Donatelli managed the offense well.

Coronado is unique in that it operates a three-quarterback system. Herrera, Donatelli and Ethan Arroyo all have certain packages in place for them to run during the game.

"All three have done good things for us at quarterback," Thunderbirds coach Bob Anderson said. "The win vs. Eastwood was a big win. Eastwood is a good team and does a lot of good things. Jose was tremendous for us on offense, he is a major playmaker for us. Angelo did some good things for us."

Coronado has a big stretch of games ahead of them. The Thunderbirds' next three games are against Montwood, El Dorado and Franklin.

Fabens knocks off Clint

For the first time since 2009, Fabens beat Clint to start District 2-4 play. The Wildcats won 47-35 behind strong play from the offensive line and another big game from running back/linebacker Chris Muzio.

Muzio had two interceptions, two rushing touchdowns and 179 yards rushing. He also had four interceptions last week vs. Anthony.

"Chris is playing well and has really stepped up for us," Fabens coach Jake Belshe said. "Against Clint our offensive line played great. Those guys up front really worked hard. It was a great atmosphere at our place. Clint is a good team. We played well."

Pebble Hills stays unbeaten

The Pebble Hills Spartans scored a win key District 1-6A game Friday night over Coronado and remain undefeated at 5-0. Their next opponent will be Americas High School.

The Spartans continued their strong play on the season with a 32-9 win vs. Americas to improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in District 1-6A.

The Spartans defense once again played well. The most points Pebble Hills has given up this year was 28 vs. Franklin, but a couple of those scores came late in the game after the game was well in hand.

Del Valle stays perfect

The Conquistadores beat Riverside and is now 5-0 in District 2-5A heading into its major showdown vs. with rival Eastlake, who is also undefeated in district, next Friday at Del Valle.

In its last four district games, the Conquistadores have scored 41, 43, 50 and 51 points.

El Dorado offense firing up

The Aztecs moved to 2-1 in District 1-6A with a win vs. Socorro.

El Dorado, which has also beaten Eastwood and lost to Montwood in district, will visit Franklin next Friday.

In its last three games, the Aztecs have scored 34, 42 and 55 points.
