Westfalia Technologies, Inc wins Green Supply Chain Award

Westfalia Technologies Receives Third Consecutive Supply & Demand Chain Executive Green Supply Chain Award

Logistics solutions provider recognized for helping warehouses and distribution centers execute green supply chain strategies through automation technologies

York, Pa. – Dec. 5, 2016 – Westfalia Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of logistics solutions for plants, warehouses and distribution centers since 1992, has won its third consecutive Green Supply Chain Award from Supply & Demand Chain Executive. Westfalia has been recognized for helping customers execute green supply chain strategies through its “Go Green with High Density” warehouse automation solutions that allow clients to minimize their building footprint, lower energy usage and reduce waste production.

Dan Labell, president of Westfalia Technologies, said, "For more than 20 years, Westfalia has been committed to helping manufacturers and distributors apply innovative technologies, like our automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), as a means of not only improving operational efficiency, but also minimizing their supply chains’ environmental impact. Today’s businesses understand that implementing ‘green’ initiatives into supply chains is no longer just a trend, it is a best practice.”

By implementing Westfalia’s AS/RS in an existing building, companies can increase storage capacity by 30 to 50 percent. When implementing an AS/RS as new construction, the storage area, or footprint, can be dramatically reduced by up to 400 percent, depending on the building height. A reduction in square footage leads to an average energy cost savings of 40 percent due to fewer interior lights, smaller wall penetrations for product movement to and from the AS/RS, and less space to heat and cool. And, with a lifespan of 25 to 30-plus years, Westfalia’s AS/RS makes these savings sustainable well into the future. In addition, the operational accuracies provided by the company’s warehouse execution system (WES), Savanna.NET®, virtually eliminate product waste, errors and damage.

The Green Supply Chain Award recognizes companies who make “going green” or sustainability a core part of their supply chain strategy, and are working to achieve measurable sustainability goals within their own operations and supply chains. The awards also recognize providers of supply chain solutions and services assisting their customers in achieving measurable sustainability goals.

“Our honorees are showing that the bottom line and corporate responsibility are not mutually exclusive,” said Ronnie Garrett, editor of Supply & Demand Chain Executive. “This has been increasingly evident over the past few years and is relatively clear with the large number of entries we received this year—almost 200—for our annual green awards. Sustainability has, for these companies, become a key part of their supply chain strategies.”

“Our goal is to honor those companies in our annual awards and credit them with the recognition they deserve,” Garrett added. “They have recognized the need for supply chain sustainability, something that’s not always easy to do.”

The official announcement of the awards will appear in the December 2016 Green Supply Chain Award issue of the magazine and online at www.SDCExec.com.
