Here are the top three things to consider when choosing a new fence color.

As the weather starts to get warmer, many people take this time to get outdoors and revamp their fence from winter. Whether you are painting your old fence or installing a brand new fence for your yard, the paint color you choose is an important decision. Take a look at our tips on some essential things to consider when choosing your residential fence color!

House Color

You should think of your fence as an extension of your house, meaning that the two should have a cohesive look. While you don’t need to have an exact color match for your fence and home, you should make sure the colors look good together. For example, if you have a brightly colored home, you don’t want your fence to have too much color. A bright blue home paired with a bright green fence would be far too overpowering and too colorful for your yard. However, if you have a neutral colored home, you don’t have to stick with a neutral fence. Two neutrals can look a little dull, so don’t be afraid play with more colors for your fence to brighten up the space.

Colors In Your Yard

You should also think about the colors in your yard before choosing your fence color, as the fence will be a part of your landscape. Take the colors of your plants, flowers, and any structures, such as a shed, into consideration. If you have a beautiful garden full of bright red and pink colors near the fence, know that a red fence would blend in with the colors, while a white or natural wood stained fence would allow the colors to shine.

Homeowner’s Association

A very important step that many people forget about when painting their fence is consulting their HOA rules and regulations. Some neighborhoods have specific rules and guidelines about which colors are acceptable for residential fences, so you want to ensure that the color you’ve chosen is within the regulations. Otherwise, you’ll have to go through the process of painting your fence all over again to fit the HOA rules.
