MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A former Madison County Sheriff's deputy has been arrested after a grand jury indicted him on theft charges.

Shawn McClure was indicted on two Class-C felonies including theft and receiving stolen property. McClure is a twelve-year veteran of the Madison County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff said a month-long investigation led up to the indictment being filed. In the midst of that investigation, McClure resigned for undisclosed reasons.

If convicted of the charges, McClure could get 1-10 years in prison for each charge and up to a $15,000 fine for each charge.

Neither the sheriff nor Sergeant Brian Chaffin would go into much detail of the incident related to the charges, saying it would compromise the case.

Sgt. Chaffin said while something like this is always hard, it had to be done.

McClure was arrested and booked after 7 p.m. Friday. Bond has been set at $10,000.
