OC Immigration Activists To Resume 'Fast For Families'

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — A handful of immigration reform activists Monday were set to begin a four-day fast outside the offices of an Orange County lawmaker.

KNX 1070's Vytas Safronikas reports members of a coalition of faith-based, immigrants' rights, community and labor organizations hope to greet Congressman John Campbell with a clear message: put immigration reform to a vote.

The "Fast For Families" activists were expected to be joined by supporters outside Campbell's Irvine office on Pacifica to call for Congress to approve an overhaul of the nation's immigration laws and to create a process allowing millions of people living in the U.S. illegally to become citizens.

A similar demonstration was held last month by about a dozen protesters outside of the Brea office of Rep. Ed Royce (R-Fullerton).

Leaders of the movement claim House Republican leaders are ignoring the strong majority of voters after Speaker John Boehner recently signaled his reluctance to hold talks with the U.S. Senate on a comprehensive reform bill.

The rally was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
