National Wetlands Awards 
 The National Wetlands Awards are presented annually to individuals who have excelled in wetlands protection, restoration, and education. This year, the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) is introducing a new nomination process. This process is intended to streamline nominations for both nominators and the Selection Committee. New Funding Opportunities

Reclamation and Development Grants Program 2014 Applications Now Available 

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Reclamation and Development Grants Program (RDGP) announces the release of grant applications for the 2014 grant cycle. Applications are due on May 15, 2014. Up to $500,000 are available per project to any city, county, Tribe, conservation district, or other local or state government subdivision in Montana. The RDGP is a state-funded grant program designed to fund projects that compensate Montana citizens for the effects of mining and other development on Montana lands and that serve the public interest and the State of Montana. Examples of projects include: · Abandoned Mine Reclamation · Brownfields Cleanup · Abandoned Hazardous Waste Site Cleanup · Abandoned Oil and Gas Well Cleanup · Erosion Control (mining related) · Crucial State Needs The grant application form and instructions, including eligibility requirements and evaluation criteria, are available electronically on the following website: http://www.dnrc.mt.gov/cardd/ResourceDevelopment/rdgp/ReclamationDevelopmentGrantsProgram.asp or by contacting Alicia Stickney at 406-444-0547. RDGP Planning Grants The RDGP program is also offering planning grants to help communities prepare RDGP applications or to fund planning and assessment for natural resource projects eligible under the larger RDGP. Up to $50,000 are available per project. Planning activities may include: problem analysis, site assessment, feasibility studies, environmental monitoring, remedial action plans, technology demonstration, research, grant writing or other related actions that lead to a full-scale project. The RDGP has already awarded planning grants to more than 18 local governments in 2013.


THE COCA-COLA FOUNDATION is offering grants to nonprofit organizations that address community needs and priorities in a meaningful way. The Foundation supports programs that focus on one of the following four categories: water stewardship; healthy and active lifestyles that lead to physical activity and nutritional education programs; community recycling; and education. WELLS FARGO AND THE NATIONAL FISH & WILDLIFE FOUNDATIONS are accepting applications for the Environmental Solutions for Communities grant program. Grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded in support of highly visible projects in regions where Wells Fargo operates that link economic development and community well-being to the stewardship and health of the environment. Deadline: 12/16/2013. THE NOTAH BEGAY III FOUNDATION offers capacity building grants to support projects focusing on the prevention of childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes among Native American children. Preference will be given to organizations from the Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico), the Upper Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin), and the Southern Plains (Oklahoma, Texas); however, applications will be accepted from anywhere in the United States. Priority will be given to proposals that demonstrate strong community engagement and a readiness to develop key strategies and an action plan. U.S. based Native American-controlled nonprofit organizations, tribal governments, and Native American community-based groups with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor are eligible to apply. The application deadline is: 12/16/2013. AMERICORP STATE AND NATIONAL GRANTS deadline has been extended. THE DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY has issued a NOFA for the 2014 funding round of economic development grants through the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund, and the Native American CDFI Assistance Program Grants. THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION is accepting proposals for the 'Our Town' grant program. Grants ranging from $25,000 to $200,000 are available to partnerships of nonprofits, government entities, and other organizations working on arts-based creative placemaking projects that contribute toward the livability of communities. Deadline: 1/13/2014. THE DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR is offering WaterSMART: Water and Energy Efficiency Grants to states, Indian tribes, irrigation districts, water districts, or other organizations with water or power delivery authority located in the western United States. Deadline: 1/23/2014. THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR is offering grants to nonprofits, LEAs and others to provide high school students with education and training that combines rigorous academic and technical curricula focused on specific in-demand occupations and industries. Deadline: 1/27/2014. Click here for guidelines and an application.


THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION AND ARTS MIDWEST is offering grants to nonprofit and public agencies through the Big Read program for reading programs that serve large geographic areas. Deadline: 1/28/2014. Click here for more information and to apply.  


WILLIAM G. AND MARIE SELBY FOUNDATION is accepting applications from nonprofits for capital grants for the construction, acquisition and/or renovation of facilities, as well as the purchase of equipment or software. Projects focusing on education, human services, arts and community projects including history, science, and/or the environment will be given top priority. Deadline: 2/1/2014. LOWES CHARITABLE AND EDUCATION FOUNDATION is accepting applications for the 2014 Toolbox for Education Grant Program. Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded in support of facility improvement projects that have a permanent impact on a K-12 school community. Deadline: 2/14/2014. THE KAZANJIAN FOUNDATION is offering grants to nonprofits for projects with national impact that address issues of economic education. The average grant is approximately $22,000, however grants as small as $3,500 and as large as $150,000 have been made. THE OPEN MEADOWS FOUNDATION supports projects that are designed and implemented by women and girls; reflect the diversity of the community served by the project; promote building community power; and encourage racial, social, economic, and environmental justice. The Foundation provides grants of up to $2,000 to cover start-up expenses or to support ongoing projects and also administers a number of special funds that are targeted to specific groups or activities.The next application deadline is: 2/15/2014. THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA) is also offering grants to nonprofit and public agencies for developing inventories of Brownfield sites, prioritizing sites, conducting community involvement activities, and conducting site assessments and cleanup planning related to Brownfield sites. Deadline: 2/21/2014. USDA has announced the availability of nearly $10.5 million in grants through the Value-Added Producer Grant program. Grants are available to help agricultural producers create new products, expand marketing opportunities, support further processing of existing products or goods, or to develop specialty and niche products. Grants Available for Stormwater Management, Habitat Restoration

Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Grants:
Deadline February 5, 2014

The National Association of Counties, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the Wildlife Habitat Council, in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, USDA Forest Service, Southern Company, FedEx and PG&E, are seeking applications for the Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Program. Approximately $1.8 million will be available in 2014, and grants will range from $20,000 to $50,000. Projects should engage diverse partners for wetland, forest, riparian and coastal habitat restoration, stormwater management, outreach and stewardship with a particular focus on water quality, watersheds and habitats. Funding Available for Western Water and Energy Efficiency Projects

BuRec's WaterSMART Water and Energy Efficiency Grants:
Deadline January 23, 2014

The Bureau of Reclamation is seeking proposals from localities, water districts, Indian tribes, and states for its WaterSMART Water and Energy Efficiency Grants. The program provides funding to communities in the Western United States to conserve and use water more efficiently, increase the use of renewable energy and improve energy efficiency, benefit endangered and threatened species, facilitate water markets, and carry out activities to address climate-related impacts on water. Applicants may seek up to $300,000 for smaller initiatives or up to $1 million for larger, phased projects. Sustainable Strategies DC previously helped Cedar Hill, Texas prepare a successful WaterSMART application to install 3,000 advanced water meters. Other Sustainability Opportunities

ArtPlace America, a collaboration of 13 foundations and six financial institutions, seeks Letters of Inquiry for itsInnovation Grants. Grants, ranging between $50,000-$500,000, will support creative placemaking projects that increase the vibrancy and diversity of communities. The program seeds projects that lead through the arts, enjoy local buy-in, integrate with economic development and community revitalization strategies, and have the potential to attract private and public support. The deadline for letters of intent is December 13, 2013.

Wells Fargo and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Environmental Solutions for Communities initiative helps link economic development, community well-being and the environment. Priorities include: sustainable agricultural practices and private lands stewardship; critical land and water resources; natural habitat, species and ecosystems; green infrastructure, renewable energy and energy efficiency; and broad-based citizen participation. The deadline for applications is December 16, 2013.

The National Endowment for the Arts' Our Town grants provide up to $200,000 for creative placemaking projects that improve community livability and help create places with the arts at their core. Eligible projects include planning (e.g., cultural district planning), design (e.g., design of parks, streetscapes) and arts engagement activities (e.g., festivals, public art). The deadline for applications is January 13, 2014.


Temper of the Times Grants
The Temper of the Times Foundation is offering grants from $5-10,000 to non-profit 501(c)3 organizations.

The grants will provide funding for projects that lead to measurable outcomes for wildland ecosystem conservation and restoration in the U.S. Grants may be used to fund the production of print, radio or television ads; to pay for advertising space or airtime; or to produce or distribute pamphlets, books, videos, or press packets.

The Whole Watershed Restoration Initiative (WWRI) is pleased to announce its 2014 Request for Proposals (RFP) for community-based habitat restoration projects in Oregon and Washington.  Approximately $1.2 million will be available in the 2014 funding cycle for projects within the WWRI's Priority Basins. Please note that some changes have been made to geographic priorities, and are described in the RFP. The deadline for applications is January 9th, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. PST and awards will be announced in late March 2014. The EPA Urban Waters Program and Five Star is excited to share the information below on two funding opportunities. The first, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Request for Proposals (RFP) is national in scope and opened just this week. The deadline for proposals for this RFP is February 5, 2014. Secondly, we have updated information about the EPA Urban Waters Small Grants RFP, which opened on Sept. 26, and is open to 18 Eligible Geographic Areas. There will be a webinar for those seeking additional information on this RFP on November 14, 2013 at 2:00 EDT. Registration is open at: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/334321466 . 

The deadline for proposals for the Urban Waters Small Grants RFP is December 16th, 2013 . There is a webinar about the Five Star and Urban Waters Restoration Grant program for potential applicants on Thursday, December 5 (2-3:30 pm EDT). The webinar will review the RFP and provide an overview of the program.  Registration information can be found on the website at http://www.nfwf.org/fivestar.  Small grant awards under this competition will range in the amount of approximately $40,000 to $60,000 in federal funding, and EPA expects to award up to $1.6 million in total funding. 

Reclamation and Development Grants Program Planning Grants Now Available
The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation Reclamation and Development Grants Program (RDGP) is accepting grant applications to fund planning and assessment for natural resource projects. Proposed projects.  The Reclamation and Development Grants Program has already awarded planning grants to more than 16 local governments in 2013. New Job Announcements
The Watershed Education Network (WEN) is hiring an executive director!! WEN is a non-profit organization that was established in 1996 and is dedicated to fostering knowledge, appreciation and awareness of watershed health through science and outreach. Our goal is to cultivate a community of watershed stewardship throughout Western Montana. This is achieved by delivering an experiential, place-based educational curriculum that meets state and national education standards. We primarily work with middle school and high-school students; however, we also provide valuable training and skills to college students interested in hydrology, fresh-water ecology and education. WEN prides itself on our fun and positive work atmosphere where respect, professionalism, safety, and appreciation are the central tenets of the work-place. The position will remained open until filled and may start as part-time, transitioning into full-time as funding becomes availiable. The position is based in Missoula, MT.
