Nation's top student doc studies at Rowan

STRATFORD -  A Mount Laurel woman studying medicine in South Jersey is the nation's top student doctor, according to the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. 

Dr. Ashley Sam, a fourth-year medical student at Rowan University's School of Osteopathic Medicine, is the 2018 National Student DO of the Year chosen by the association's Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents.

The award is presented yearly to one medical student demonstrating a commitment to leadership, research and community service. 

Sam, a 2nd lieutenant in the Air Force, is RowanSOM's student council president and works on the Mental Health Awareness Project.
