Ebooks an Increasingly Popular Holiday Gift

This article is more than 10 years old.

More parents intend to buy their kids ebooks for the holidays this year than last year.

Some 73% of parents with children aged two to 13 plan on buying their kids digital books this year for the holidays versus 66% last year, according to an upcoming report from PlayCollective and Digital Book World.

"Digital gifts are becoming increasingly common, and potentially even preferred," wrote PlayCollective CEO Alison Bryant in a recent blog post. However parents plan on spending less on those digital gifts than last year -- about $25 versus $28.

These ebooks aren't being purchased in a vacuum. Parents also plan on buying their kids e-reading devices at a higher clip this year than last, according to the report. Nearly half plan on doing so, with the Kindle Fire leading the way.

More findings will be presented by Bryant at the upcoming Launch Kids conference at Digital Book World 2014 this January.
