Nocturne: Book Two (The Celtic Vampyre Saga) 262 pages (print length)
After Nathaniel and Faelynn find more than an invaluable confidant in one another, together they begin to boldly journey deeper into the odyssey of their own destinies. Vowing to aid Nathaniel in his quest for salvation, only if he takes her to see the one she believes is responsible for all the heartache in her life so she can savour the sweet taste of vengeance, Faelynn finds herself making the long trek to the isle of Newfoundland, the dominion of Cormack de Crüel. Unknown to Nathaniel, Cormack and the vampyre elites are secretly meeting at the secluded Castle de Crüel in order to put the final pieces in place for the creation of a North American Vampyre Union—an insidious organisation that has only a dark and twisted agenda in store not just for humanity, but also vampyrekind. Has Faelynn unwittingly placed herself in harm’s way by putting her trust in Nathaniel? Or has Nathaniel foolishly placed himself in the line of fire by choosing to help someone other than himself for the first time in over two centuries?
This intriguing and passionate saga would be attractive to the habitual readers of Gothic literary works, paranormal romance, and horror.

There are hundreds, maybe thousands of Vampire books out on the market. Series, sagas, trilogies - you name it and you can find it. It is literally a readers market and every book worm can pick and follow who ever they like best.
Authors like Shalini Boland,Lucinda Elliott and Nicola Claire are some of my favorites. What do they have in common? They all have a new view of this old PNR genre - a new different world with a very individual angle, no cookie cutter pattern they easily can follow and is predictable after more than one book.C.K.Farrell pushed himself, in my readers mind, right up there.
I enjoyed his first book in the Celtic Vampyre Saga, but I loved the second one.
Nocturne starts where the last one ended and picks up the pace quite nicely. When in the first one, the reader has to struggle a bit to stay on the trail due to the wealth of words the author throws at the reader, book two is an slightly easier read, but with more story - and an interesting story it is.
The heroes , both with dark pasts work together. Realizing that as a team, they might reach their goal - not seeing at that point that it might be the same - redemption.
The Villains do what villains do best - torture , plan and try to get world domination. Got to love that! In good old writers fashion, the reader is the invisible visitor in this story - able to connect all facts and backgrounds, but unable to warn the heroes, who ran blindly into the obvious abyss.
...but there is so much more to this story than good vampire vs bad vampire. There is a hint of witches, spells , werewulfs - supernatural beings who are maybe more involved than it momentarily seems. I know, I won't take anything for granted and I am curiously looking forward where this author will take us in the future.
I enjoyed this book and I can recommend it as well to everybody who loves a little different vampire story.
C.K Farrell really knows how to pull you into a story, this is the most fascinating Vampire Saga I've read so far & this is only the 2nd book. I really appreciate the prose. I'm dazed at how well written it is, the archaic words used, the mysteriousness of the main characters, everything! and as previously mentioned this is only the 2nd book!.....As soon as i get my affairs in order i'm buying the third one :)
This book was the second in a series. I got this one for free and had not read the first book of the series. This book is definitely not a stand alone novel. The author didn't give the reader any information about what had happened in the first novel, so I felt pretty confused from the get go. This book started in 1818 and at some point takes place in the present day. There was no indication of the change of time periods. There was little character development. As far as I could tell, there was no plot. In addition to that, the book read very s-l-o-w-l-y. The first sex scene between Nathaniel and Faelynn. The reader wasn't told how these 2 even met in the first place. There just wasn't enough information about the past or for that matter, what was going on in the present time for the book to make much sense to me. The author also seemed to really like big words. I don't mind big words, but it seemed as though the author had gone to a thesaurus and substituted a word that seemed to be the most obscure, archaic form of the word in the list of synonyms. I presume the purpose of the is to give the impression that the characters in the book have been around a long time and know lots of elaborate words. I really got tired of having to look up some of these words only to discover that they really didn't seem to fit the word the author was describing. Example: using redoubtable instead of formidable. "They began on their 'impingement of descrying' the portly body of their master." What exactly does this mean?? Why should I have to constantly be looking up words that nobody ever uses. Surely the author could have made the discourse varied and interesting without resorting to the most obscure/never used words he could have found. The book did get somewhat interesting at the 90% mark, but it soon ended with a sort of cliffhanger. I will not purchase any of the other books in this series.
Sometimes you read a book and know right off the bat where the author is going. In this saga I must say that I am surprisingly unsure of the destination.Still I want to read more. Coming to know the characters I am curious to know their fate.
I found the first book a bit wordy and this book follows suit but not to the same extent I think, I feel like the author is finding his style the more he writes. I found at the end of book one that I wanted to see where Nathaniel and Faelynns story was going to go and I have to say that I have not been disappointed. This is a vampire story with more in common with Anne Rice than Stephenie Meyer, it is full of twists and turns. Nathaniel, Faelynn and Martha's stories all seem bound together but how and why is still a mystery that I hope will continue to be revealed over the course of the series. It is the strand that is holding the story together. Nathaniel and Faelynn seem destined to be together but what links them and why has Martha's soul found its way to Faelynn is keeping me guessing but the speed at which Faelynn and Nathaniel fall for each other considering Faelynns hatred for vampires is a bit convenient. All in all there is more than enough to keep me interested in the saga and I look forward to number three.
Once I had wrapped my head around the fact that this is not your typical vampire story I had no problem getting right into it. I really like the chemistry that is between Nathaniel and Faelynn and like seeing how well they get along together to reach a common goal (although it hasn't totally been revealed yet!) The fact that Faelynn is 'not quite human' and Nathaniel is 'not quite full vampire' has me totally intrigued as well. And then there is Cormack de Cruel, his name says it all. I can't wait to see what kind of hell he is going to unleash in the next book. But let's not forget Martha, oh dear Lord, Martha. These two are a perfect match for eachother and I am afraid for whoever decides to get in their way! Overall a good book and I would recommend reading it :)
I enjoy the first book in this series. It was wonderful story. Book 2 was even better then the first one by miles I loved it. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys an different angle on vampires. Nocturne jumps back and forth between Nathaniel's life as a young vampire and the present. We get a hint of how Nathaniel becomes a vampire. Nathaniel and Faelynn finally give in to temptation and get down and dirty. I enjoyed it and can't wait to pick up the third novel to find out what happens next.
Read the first book in the series prior to reading this one. The author used overly-flowery language for my tastes and it seemed like they were in love with their thesaurus, using very archaic words that are no longer in common parlance. Now since British spellings were used in the book, maybe these words are still in useage in the UK while they are not in America, but somehow I doubt it. This love of the thesaurus also led to wrong words being used in certain instances, for example, the word "solidarity" was used in a place where the word (based on context) should have been "solidity".
Absolutely a brilliant and beautiful haunting story!! I became immersed in the characters immediately. The descriptive way this author writes is poetic and giving a vampyre a soul is pure genius. You feel like you're in the book!! Faelynne and Nathaniel are so beautiful together that you just pray they stay together for eternity!!! That's what I'm going to find out!!! Short review, but this is a MUST READ!! Hauntingly beautiful, sensual and horrific all in an amazing story!! C.K. Farrell is fascinating!!
The relationship between Faelynn and Nathaniel is developing and I love the flashbacks to the past before and after he was changed yet still not all is revealed. It makes me want to know more about the mystery surrounding Nathaniel's transformation, what makes him so different and is he the only hybrid out there. Superb storytelling I feel Nathaniel's pain and struggle. LOVE IT! I fear for hero and heroine's lives as they head off to Cormack's castle unaware who else resides within.
Nocturne satisfies the thirst that Disenchanted left and each scene encourages you to keep reading and enraptures the reader. I love the characters, they make you love them. I can not wait to read the next book!
Frankly I don't have 20 words to spend on this book. I would read another like it because it is easy, I don't have to think and it allows me to rest while Im being entertained.
It's inevitable that, not only is Faelynn's nightmares being caused by Martha, but she is headed straight for her. On top of all that, she wants to try to kill a psychopath to get her father back. Her journey with Nathaniel is just beginning.
This series is definitely growing on me. The more that's revealed the more I'm immersed into this interesting world that's been created! The writing style, though it was a bit much in the first book, is really growing on me. Can't wait to read the next book!
