Disenchanted: Book One (The Celtic Vampyre Saga)
238 pages (print length)

Faelynn LeCroix is a woman hell-bent on finding those responsible for the brutal murder of her mother and the abduction of her father. She’s on a quest for revenge and, in her opinion, the bloodier the better. The arduous trail that she has been doggedly following for three years has led her directly into the path of Nathaniel Valour, an Irish vampyre who rules over the territory of New England. At first, she sees him as nothing more than one of the fiends she disposes of on a nightly basis, but something tells her that Nathaniel is different from every other vampyre she has ever encountered on her trail of retribution. The truth is, Nathaniel Valour is different—he is a vampyre with a secret. Upon looking into the eyes of Faelynn, Nathaniel realises that she is the one he has unknowingly been waiting for. Can Faelynn see beyond her situation and place her fragile trust in the hands of a depraved creature of the night, one she swore to destroy every last one of? If she can, Faelynn may find herself closer than ever to quenching her thirst for vengeance.

This intriguing and passionate saga would be attractive to the habitual readers of Gothic literary works, paranormal romance, and horror.

I will admit up front that I didn't read this entire book. In fact, I could only slog through maybe 10% before I stopped reading. Aside from the fact that the writing is verbose and florid, I have never seen more cliches and alliterations packed together in my life. It was so distracting that I found myself searching for the next issue with the writing instead of reading the story. I gave up when Faelynn LeCroix strutted in with "...a heedful of sable, rebellious locks that cascaded down the front of her shoulders like a silken waterfall." (And yes, "heedful" is in the book.) At least it was almost free.

I don't get the 4 and 5 Stat ratings I wonder if I'm reading an entirely different book.
First the writing, I kind of feel like the writer threw up a thesaurus on every single page. I get one wants to be descriptive but there is a point where it was too much. And the cliches I felt like I was being tortured.
I kept waiting for something to happen in this book. Because if an author has that many words eventually it will come to something. As I got to the end I was so very let down. In fact I was a but angry that I spent time reading the book and there was nothing.
unless you're seriously bored and get this book for free don't do it.

Well, I made it to the end...barely. Not gonna bother with the rest of the series. Anyone who writes like this author does needs to take a couple of writing courses and learn how to rein in the prose. Not recommended.

After reading the first book in the Celtic Vampyre Saga I must full heartdetly admit - what a wonderful surprise.

A lot of books receive 4 and 5 stars ratings, but after I look into them, I sometimes wonder what the criterias are the reader puts them through. I don't want to sound arrogant - everybody reads what they like best and that is perfect. As much as I enjoy sometimes an easy read, with lots of humor in it or some steamy love scenes, they do get old fast and that is when I turn to books like this one.

It is not an easy read. I have to admit, with English not as my first language, I had to look up several words, but it did not stop me there. The writer C.K. Farrell is able to peak your attention early on and keeps it to the end. He thrives in the characters and is able to make a well rounded picture of them. As a reader you get to know Faelynn and Nathaniel ,the two main characters , very well and as different they seem they truly are very similar as well. Both are tortured by their past, both are willing to open up to strangers - even enemies - only to discover their mutual attraction and cautious curiosity to try to work together.

This is a book you wish to read again and if my gut feeling is correct , book 2 won't disappoint.

I can highly recommend this book.

I have been reading for more than 25 years. After some time I stopped reading word for word because at a glance I knew where a paragraph was going and I use an hour more or less to finish a book.
But with disenchanted, I can not read using this method because of the new words I come across in most if not all of the sentences.

Some may complain about the author's use of words but, let's be fair. It's time to broaden our use of the English language. And not repeat same old words.

This novel is really interesting to read and I truly enjoyed it

Word vomit.

It took me a long time to get through this book, mostly because it just couldn't hold my interest. But I can't not finish a book, so months later I finally go through it. It's hard to read, mostly because it seems like the author tried to write an intelligent novel, but it reads like he took and replaced words using a thesaurus. It doesn't flow at all, and I kept starting to doze off while reading it. Definitely won't be getting the second one.

I am not usually fan of vampire stories, but this one is a major exception. I am in love with Nathaniel Valour and I need to know more of what happens in this series. I am also curious to know more about Faelynn's story and how she and Nathaniel relate.

Vampire Confessed Problems...

This book consists of conversations between an Irish vampire and an individual attacked by a vampire. Interesting in some respects but boring over all.

Well written, slow read

This book is extremely well written, however, there’s not a lot going on in the First of this series. The author does give you an in depth look into what I can only assume are the main characters.

Not too bad start.

Only 4 stars as I almost didn't read it. I could not get i to the beginning and skimmed through the first 25%. After that, though, it did get good and interesting. I'm glad that I stuck it out. I hope that book 2 just jumps in where tbis one ended.

Disappointed

Story had potential, but the writing was so bloated and overdone, and words used in the wrong context, made it too much of a struggle to read.

Interesting

If ever a book can catch your attention this is one. The writer takes his time laying out a narrative that holds your attention. Anticipation is making me wait. Bravo

I am sorry that I couldn't finish reading. The book was hard to get into for me. Now I am not the sharpest pin in the hay stack, so the book might be perfect for some one else. It's worth a try.

Discombobulating

This book was so full of unnecessary jargon that I'm not sure exactly what the story is really about! Dictionary please!

A Vampyre's Tale

A short yet enchanting tale full of love, hate, vengeance, and revenge. Can there be redemption? A well written tale which will leave you begging for answers.

Dnf. I am a lover of words but I just couldn't read this past the 4% mark because some of these were unnecessarily highbrow.

Wonderfully refreshing change from the same carbon copy insert name book and story line .

A must read and good introduction to the saga that is a refreshing change from the usual typical
Story line and insert name . I will be looking for the next book in this series.

Tried to hard?

This is one of the books where I think the authors is trying to hard for it to be a book of great literature and not just a good story. What I mean ::) y this is the throwing info big words where they really aren't needed. Yes there are times you use a word not commonly used but not every other word... ok that's overstating it, it isn't that often but darn near. I honestly think this book would have internally better and much more of a smooth flowing read if there were not way too many words that are too often used. It just made it seem like he was trying too hard to make this some great literary read of the ages or something, I don't know. And yes I realize parts of the book take place in the past where people talked a lot different than they do now and he ( the vampire) is from that past but in that amount of time I believe he would learn to talk more within the time he is living which he does a few times. I'm not very good with windshield so I'm not sure I've making myself clear. It's not that I don't understand the words, I do, that's not it at all it just way too many of them justified the book for me. Indigent flowers well as it could have and it seemed more boring for some reason. I'm not usually one to just read one book in a series but I don't think I will be reading more of this one, it's just not interesting enough and was for me almost boring for some reason. Not much really happens in this first book either and I realize there was parts going back in time and you need that to tell the story but, still not good enough for me to read on. I'm ginger two and a half stars not three.

Ok, to start off with I am torn on the rating between a 3 and 4 so I think a 3.5 is what I am going to leave it at.

I was a little shocked for the first few chapters b/c I was thinking sucking blood, violence, lust etc would be on the menu of a good vampy book. This was NOT the case with this book. Actually there was no sucking blood in the book but their was some discussion of what type of blood to drink ie. polar bear.

So far Nathaniel has been ok but I think a little too proper for me. I think he needs to be a little more badass but there is another book so he still has a chance ;) Faelynn is a strong type of woman that has some secret that she doesn't even know about at this point but I think it is the reason everything is happening and will connect everything together.

I loved when Faelynn and Nathaniel meet in the alley and even more when they went back to his place. But Faelynn is suppose to be this hardcore Vamp hunter who hates them all and doesn't trust any of them so why after one meeting would she go back to his place completely alone and exposed and 'trust' him? I don't know, maybe if a hawt vampire asked me to go back to his place I would find it hard to resist too!

I did enjoy reading this book but found that I was just getting into it and it was done. I would have liked it to be a little longer and gotten more of the story. Hopefully book 2 makes it worth the wait.

An exquisite piece of art!

I love vampire stories, it’s one of my favorite genders but now days is quite difficult to find a few good books to read in these section. I have no words to describe this novel, believe me when I say that Disenchanted: Book One (The Celtic Vampyre Saga) is a captivating read, rich in dialogues and descriptions that you won’t stop reading until you reach the very end.

Apart from my love to vampires, I also adore a wonderful plot and characters backstories filled with mystery. Farrell did a marvelous job in mixing those treats! Did I already mention that I’m love with Farrell’s form of writing?

Characters united by destiny to fulfill their legacy, with a blend of pride and prejudice (not talking about the book by Jane Austen). Could understanding and maybe love help this two souls in their adventure permeated with revenge?

Well, we have to find out by buying the next book. I’m 100% sure that we won’t regret it!

Saga indeed. In this first book of the Celtic Vampyre Saga, the author lovingly, patiently, thoroughly builds the story of Nathaniel and Faelynn. I will not summarize the story – others have already done so. Like other reviewers I was grateful for the onboard Kindle dictionary while reading this book, but I loved the precise and proficient use of such elegant vocabulary. Clearly the author enjoys painting with words, and he does it very, very well. Having purchased and read the second and third books (Nocturne and Consequences), it is easy for me to recommend the entire series. The styling of this story is a refreshing change from the usual vampire romance genre. Not that there’s anything wrong with that genre - love my collection of vampire stories. However, those like me who have read many books of that type will appreciate the unique qualities of this particular vampire tale.

Just finished this for a third time. I love to re-read this series whenever I get a chance, I get lost in it every time I read it, especially this particular book - probably my favorite of the series.
The writing style of this author is so in-depth that the reader has a perfect vision of the scenes before them, down to the finest detail. I love this trait in a book, especially a fantasy thriller such as this. The historical background to Nathaniel is also deeply detailed and gives an added interesting dimension for readers, especially if you're a person interested in the historical background of Ireland and its role in the UK empire.
If you're a fan of Anne Rice, you'll really love this series. Well worth a read!!

Just finished reading Disenchanted. Very reminiscent of classic literature. I can't wait to see where it will go from here. The dialogue had me hooked even with the difficult vocabulary which had me on Google a lot but it was a refreshing to be challenged. I love how the book showed flashbacks and the presence of different character's and show where they come from. I love how the Nathaniel starts to fall in love with Faelynn who wants to kill vampire's that killed her mother and kidnapped her father and that he wants to help her kill his own kind. It's a great book and I am looking forward to the next one.

Enjoyable new vampire series

I'm a big fan of vampire books. When this book was available for free, I decided to give it try. Well, I wasn't disappointed.

I liked the Celtic theme integrated with the vampire story. The protagonist is a likeable character. I liked the way the mystery developed as the story went on, making it a compelling read.

Only thing I didn't like was, it was too short. It seemed like it was half a book. So I immediately downloaded the next book. Matter of fact, I've read all the books in the matter of 7 days. It was that compelling. Now I have to wait for book 5.

This story has received very good reviews on Amazon/Goodreads for being an original story. Although there are aspects of this that are true, overall, I don't think that it is very original. It is a good story and I'm sure that there are many fans out there. I would recommend it to any whole like the troubled vampire love story. It's just not for me. I did give it 4 stars because I didn't want to be unfair to the author because the story is well written. The only real comment to potential readers that I would have is be sure that you like this kind of story and don't fall for the 'original' comments.

Ok! What a breath of fresh air this book was because it didn't have the "same old same old" pattern of shy timid girl meets mysterious boy. Gosh I want to throw books far with that crap. Now after that little vent I would like to acknowledge the author on a job well done. I LOVED IT! I was on the hunt for a book that captured me and I wanted to fall into it's rabbit hole and when I'm finished, smile like that crazy cat. The chemistry between Faelynn and Nathaniel....lets just say I'm rooting for them but at the same time Martha's story saddens me.

Thoroughly enjoyed the writing style even though it did sometimes feel verbose, I actually felt 10x smarter after reading this because of all the big words, big words that I no doubt will be adding to my vocabulary,... the beginning felt a little slow though, but it held my attention enough to follow through with the entire book, and now my interest is beyond peaked, looking forward to the 2nd book!
