Dish, Media General Reach Agreement, Ending 6-Week Blackout

Dish had sought FCC intervention

Dish Network and Media General have reached a retransmission agreement that will end a six-week blackout of Media General stations on Dish in 17 markets.

The agreement ends a spat that included Dish asking the Federal Communications Commission to intervene. Media General stations, mostly in the Southeast, went dark on Dish Oct. 1.

Media General owns 31 network-affiliated broadcast television stations in all. Its holdings reach 16.5 million people, or 14 percent of U.S. TV households.

Dish, the second-largest satellite provider after DirecTV, boasts more than 14 million subscribers. The feud with Media General was only the latest for Dish, which last year blacked out AMC Networks for months.
