Prince William is really mad about the Marchioness of Cholmondeley gossip

The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Attend Gala Dinner To Support East Anglia's Children's Hospices' Nook Appeal

As we discussed yesterday, the biggest royal story of the week is about the Duchess of Cambridge trying to “phase out” her “rural rival,” a woman named Rose Hanbury. Rose is married to the Marquess of Cholmondeley, and Rose bears the title of Marchioness of Cholmondeley. The Marquess and Marchioness are well-connected, wealthy and popular among the Turnip Toff set in Norfolk, where their palatial Houghton Hall sits just a few miles away from the Cambridges’ Anmer Hall. For a week now, there’s been gossip that Kate and Rose had a falling out. No one knows why or what happened, just that Kate has reportedly gotten quite aggressive with trying to shun or Mean Girl the Cholmondeleys. Well, the Cambridges heard the gossip. And they went to Richard Kay at the Daily Mail and convinced him to write one of the oddest denial stories I’ve ever read. You should read the whole piece here, because the excerpts don’t do justice to how utterly bizarre the denials are being framed.

Poor William felt the need to do something: “Which was why yesterday William was determined to act as extraordinary rumours engulfed his family, threatening to disrupt their domestic tranquillity.

What Kay hears about Rose & Kate: “I am told the rumours of a falling out between these two attractive young women are false. I can also reveal both sides have considered legal action but, because none of the reports have been able to offer any evidence about what the so-called dispute is about, they have chosen to ignore it. In fact, gossip started doing the rounds at smart dinner parties late last year. Quite why is still a mystery, but there have been some malevolent undertones to it. There has been talk that the rumours were got up to damage Kate.”

How well the Cholmondeleys & Cambridges really know each other: “Rose and David were both guests (of the Queen) at William and Kate’s wedding in 2011, and three years ago the royal couple attended a black tie gala at Houghton Hall…the Duchess has attended the Houghton Hall horse trials with her children. William and David would appear to have less in common. The marquess — French-speaking, piano-playing and a lover of modern art — is, after all, the same age as his late mother. The men have been shooting together, but this is normal among landowners in Norfolk. So does all that add up to a close friendship? According to an authoritative family source, the two couples have been to each other’s homes only three times. ‘They see each other occasionally and like each other,’ a figure close to Rose tells me. ‘They are not part of each other’s close circle. It isn’t even remotely a bosom-close friendship.’”

The husbands don’t get it: “I understand both men are baffled by the rumours and insist there is no rift between them or their wives. A family source told me: ‘These hurtful rumours of a fall-out are simply false. William and David were in touch with each other over the weekend, not knowing whether to laugh or complain. Both wives are hurt by the suggestion that there is any argument or even a coolness between them. They have plans for future events involving their charity…. Another family figure said: ‘A whisper which had no basis or truth has turned into a roar. Both couples laughed when it was first carelessly put around and endlessly repeated, even though it was patently not true. As more and more people passed it on, it took on a life of its own and has now become hurtful and toxic.’”

Kay takes pains to bitch about the Sussexes: “They have eschewed the celebrity friends that Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex appear to like to surround themselves with. No friends of Kate have gone chatting to gossipy magazines as Meghan’s have done to People and Vanity Fair. As a royal wife and mother, Kate has never put a foot wrong, her family are loyal and discreet. She carries out her official duties with enthusiasm. But while William has never indulged in the kind of ‘what Meghan wants, Meghan gets’ foot-stamping as Prince Harry is said to have done, he knows how important she is as a mother and a future queen. And if this whole sorry episode turns out to be some cack-handed attempt to dent Kate’s unshakeable standing with the public, it has almost certainly backfired.”

[From The Daily Mail]

It’s perfectly possible that at the end of the day, the original story was nothing more than shady Norfolk gossip which got elevated because it involved an aristocrat’s wife and a duchess. But the force and weirdness of the denial is making me wonder about all of it. It’s clear that William went to Richard Kay. It’s clear that despite what William wants us to think, he’s exactly the kind of foot-stomping tantrum-prone prince who throws a hissy fit whenever Kate gets bad press. Also: “Kate’s unshakeable standing with the public”… lmao.

Okay i buy it’s not true, just local gossip the media wanted to believe to as Meghan is really pregnant and second baby shower story not happening yet. I don’t care for Meghan or Kate ( IMO in real life I bet they are both bit of top dog types) but the media over there was mean to Kate until Meghan came sling and a hundred times meaner to Meghan. William shouldn’t feed that / try to benefit from it.

    • Jegede says:

      I can’t believe this story.

Rose Hanbury’s mother is as ruthless as Emile Van Cutsem when it comes to aristocratic blood ties and staying close to the royal family.😏

Hanbury’s grandmother and the Queen Mother were friends.

Rose and her sister, Marina, both married titled men decades older with extreme land wealth, as their ma applauded.💲💲💲💲💲💲💲

      It’s a long game plan.
I just don’t think the Hanbury’s would ever do anything to jeopardise their links with the royals, esp the Charles/Willam set.

      • Cloudysky says:

The thrust of this article, as indicated by the headline, ‘Is Kate’s ‘rural rivalry’ just a vicious rumour to damage her?’, is that someone planted this rumor to damage Kate and/or Will’s reputation. The article doesn’t say who spoke to Kay, but the implication is that William or someone in the royal family either believes or knows that the rumor was planted by someone for “malevolent” reasons.

Not sure what to make of it all. We know very little about the supposed falling out or whether the story was even true, and now this response seems to be a veiled threat aimed at whoever planted/spread the story. I wonder if we’ve heard the end of it.

      • Megan says:

It seems more likely that a silly piece of gossip reached the ear of a gossip writer rather than someone trying to malign Kate. If the Cholmondeley’s are tight with the BRF it’s possible William wanted to refute the article since it is embarrassing to all involved.

      • Its Ok says:

@Cloudysky the fact that it implies Will makes me think it wasn’t. If Will was that upset about it then you would think that he would have just had KP comment on it officially. This is either a leak or simply to give the story more credibility. They could have put this rumor to bed before it even hit the papers just by hanging out together a few times. i’m assuming whoever started the rumor is the one telling the papers what they should write. They’re the ones who cared enough to start it in the first place. The initial report didn’t get that much attention. So, they’re just adding fuel to the fire. God only knows who started and why.

    • Muffy says:

I’m sure she’s having (or already had) a baby shower, but this time it will be on a private estate and much less accessible to the press.

    • 90sgirl says:

Me thinks Thee (PW) doth protest too much.

This reminds me of years and years in early days when PC and Diana were portrayed as the Golden couple, in the British press and swift denials of rifts between Aristo friends and denials of affairs.

The British press will never learn from the past. Even during the dating years, William and Kate’s relationship was not golden, there were several rumoured breakups unreported, rumours of of women and a roving eye.

What is hidden will eventually come out in the daylight, if someone wants it to.
Remember William on the ski holiday without Kate a few years ago. He was dancing in the club one night, if it weren’t for cell phones we would have never even known he was away on holiday on his own, without Kate and was hanging out with others in the club at the resort.

Something about this story does have one m-o of Kates past behaviour. She has dumped several friends on the way up and several of them were ladies who for some reason or other she was insecure about or caught Williams eye, even if in just light flirtation.

    • TabithaStevens says:

Celebitchy was mentioned in a MSN article covering this same story.

  2. Snap Happy says:

Wow, he threw Harry and Meghan right under that bus.

    • HK9 says:

Yes he did….which he doesn’t realize makes him look bad.

      • Megan says:

It’s just outrageous how the tabs drag Meghan. What are her crimes? Making Harry happy and taking her job seriously. If she was a white Bristish woman the tabs would be tripping over themselves to praise her.

      • TabithaStevens says:

I actually believe she is a social climber and is using his dumb behind to get ahead but who knows.

      • Olenna says:

        @TabithaStevens,
Who “is a social climber”? Kate, Meghan, the marchioness? They all married up and into the pinnacle of British society, so if their husbands weren’t aware they were advancing these women up the socio-economic ladder, then I can name three dumb men, not just one.

      • Lilyb says:

He didn’t. And it doesn’t make him look bad. While William always took care of Harry, Harry always hurt his brother and had thrown him under the bus a million times. And by the way celebitchy you are the ones that’s in denial.

      • Tina says:

How on earth has Harry thrown William under the bus? When? Harry took the heat for the racist fancy dress party. Harry took the heat for smoking weed at Highgrove. Harry has always taken the blame for things they both did.

      • notasugarhere says:

Lilyb must have the brothers mixed up. William has always thrown Harry under the bus and used him to make himself look good.

    • Lisa says:

      As per usual.

    • Shrute’s beet farm says:

I’m neither a Meghan nor a Kate fan, but wow. First, Meghan was an actress. It stands to reason, does it not, that the people she is friendly with would also have some connection to Hollywood? Is she meant to dump them all because they aren’t posh enough to be her friend now that she’s HRH? That would be laughable (and also called out savagely by the press). Second, Kate never put a foot wrong? GMAFB. I was never fond of the “her hemline is too short” criticism but she did flash—full ass out—on multiple official occasions. She did show up to events for 15 minutes and then beg off, only to be spotted shopping an hour later. After five years of marriage, when she was getting criticism for doing very little, she had the audacity to call herself “new on the job.” She put many a foot wrong, let’s not act like she’s been perfect this whole time just to take a jab at Harry and Meghan.

      • Maryrose says:

We saw Kate’s boobs in France, we’ve seen her butt multiple times at airports, and we peeked at her baby maker as she was hunched under a towel in the French pictures. So put it all together, and we’ve seen her naked. Completely naked. And she won’t work. She wouldn’t even pin shamrocks on that darling dog two years in a row. But the bottom line is, she’s a commoner, just like Meghan. Neither come from aristocratic roots. We are sure Kate doesn’t. But Meghan could have been an African Princess on her Mother’s side for all we know.

And Rose’s Mother was a bridesmaid at Elizabeth’s and Phillip’s wedding. Now that’s pedigree. Maybe the aristocrats got tired of commoner Kate jumping all over commoner Meghan when they have to put up with commoner Kate because William married outside their social circle.

      • Silas Marner says:

The French pictures are not shameful for Kate. People should not criticize her for them. They were taken with a strong lens without her knowledge. Those pictures are an ethical violation of consent.

The shameful part was William and Kate not attending more of the Paralympics so they could take a vacation.

    • Sparkly says:

And he actually thinks that’s a smart move! They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

    • Fluffy Princess says:

I know!! Like What to H and M have anything to do with this? They aren’t even part of that crowd. . .

      William is a d***.

  3. Digital Unicorn says:

The fact that Kay wrote this tells you there is some truth to the story and that he’s been told to write a story denying it (while chucking the Sussex’s under the bus). It’s damage control by the DoLittles as they NEVER reply to a story unless it hits a nerve. Plus he’s not a fan of the Cambridges so the snark is strong in any article he has to write defending them.

This is just a weird story where I think facts are missing, the Kay article is desperate to paint the DoLittles as victims – makes you wonder what has gone on! And am not sure the DoLittles are the victims.

    • TQ says:

      +1

As folks said on yesterday’s thread, it wouldn’t surprise me if this has to do with William cheating with Rose.

      • Redburgandy says:

The report did not say the fallout was about infidelity, this is just mischief making! All it said was that Kate & Rose had a falling out over who gets to be at the top of their social circle among the Norfolk set.

It does seem silly that two grown women would fall out over something so trivial but in the last few months we’ve had reported fights over tiaras, air fresheners and bridesmaid dresses! This is no different from the other silly stories that have been written about the royals over the last few months.

    • Beli says:

      Absolutely.

And the overt and inaccurate sneering at the Sussexes in a story that’s nothing to do with them, but just designed to make Will and Kate look good, only suggests even harder that the smear campaign against Meghan was at least aided by the Cambridge camp, maybe even mostly fuelled by them.

      • Mego says:

Yes it’s becoming rather obvious to me and makes me truly despise W&K.

      • sushi says:

I did not believe the Cambridges have anything to do with the Sussexes smear. Now I believe it because William did not respond to the falling out of story Kate and Megan yet he did with this story. Why do they call themselves Royal Highness when in fact nothing highness about them.

    • 90sgirl says:

Yes the Kay article seems desperate and now makes me think Cambridge camp is desperate to do damage control.

    • Himmiefan says:

They deny this and yet never lifted a finger to help Meghan, except maybe the air kiss greeting a couple of weeks ago.

      • Princessk says:

My thoughts too. They even mentioned taking legal action.

      • Sharon Lea says:

I thought the same thing, why didn’t they do something about all the stories that Kate & Meghan don’t get on? This came out so quickly, and clearly, directed by William.

  4. TheOriginalMia says:

I tried reading that article last night. It kept going and going and got more and more ridiculous as it did. Should have left things alone. William took a gossipy, non-story and made it front page. Way to go, genius! Now people will really be speculating about what exactly is going on and it’ll be salacious and not very flattering to Kate. And again, the backhanded jabs at the Sussexes proves the smears came from William/Middletons and the feud is real. Again…genius move, William. Continue to prove Harry was right for severing ties professionally and personally with you.

    • Beli says:

+1. This tells me that part of William’s strategy to try and make himself and his wife look better is to have the media attack his brother and sister-in-law. The story was nothing to do with them, so why are they being smeared in it?

      • gm says:

I agree the plan is whenever criticized to negatively bring up your brother and his wife to deflect. It may work now but eventually most people will wise up.

      • Some chick says:

        Everything is All About William.

        1) William is still big mad/jelly of Harry.

        2) Any criticism of Kate reflects poorly on William.

        3) William does have a roving eye and Kate knows it. Maybe there was a flirtation she saw and didn’t appreciate.

        4) Whatever William Wants, William Gets.

All that said, I want Rose’s gorgeous dress! Does anyone have an ID?

      • Digital Unicorn says:

        ^ It looks like Temperley.

      • Some chick says:

Thanks, Digital Unicorn. Sometimes the pretty dresses are the best thing around these stories.

      • BCity says:

You know you’re a PR genius when your strategy is “talk sh*t about a pregnant lady”. Is Poor Jason still around? Is there seriously no one who’s willing to risk a William Tantrum (I could be wrong, but I think this is all him) and tell them this comes off straight-up trashy?

      • Himmiefan says:

So “never complain, never explain” applies only to Meghan? Funny how Will complains when negative press applies to him.

      • Some chick says:

Came back to say that it turns out Rose is wearing Valentino. I’m not quite as enamored with it, having seen it full length. But I do still think the bodice and sleeves are so very pretty. 🙂

  5. Lisa says:

Unbelievable. Nothing to do with Meghan or Harry yet they find a way to drag them into it and take jabs. Meghan’s friends defended her after years of relentless abuse from royal reporters and her family that has truly damaged her reputation. The bias is laughable and of course they use the Sussex’s who disappear unless they are working. So glad Meghan and Harry are no longer with Kensington Palace.

    • Jane says:

Meghan’s reputation hasn’t been damaged though. I have gotten the impression that people have seen that she is the victim of a tabloid smear campaign and bullying and so have rallied to support her.

      • Himmiefan says:

Acyually, Meghan’s supposed to be very popular in Britain.

      • Tina says:

Most people here do not care. I don’t think popular opinion has changed much since the last poll, which was some time ago, and in which she was a bit less popular than William and Kate, who were less popular than Harry ( who was more popular than the Queen).

    • Redgrl says:

Yep – and that stupidity about “none of Kate’s friends have gone to the press” – oh please! Short memories! I recall her friends from private school and then I believe also from university giving interviews complete with photos. So just stop.

      • notasugarhere says:

Add in her family’s personal relationship with certain royal reporters and paps, and their PR advisors being employed as editors at the Daily Fail.

    • Millenial says:

I sort of felt Kay was subtly implying that *someone* was behind the story, and I wonder if he was subtly implying it was H/M? For the record, I don’t believe that at all, but that aspect of the article seemed a bit heavy-handed. “Someone has malevolent intent to damage Kate! Who could it be? Clutches pearls.”

      • 90sgirl says:

        Or to protect sneaky William.
What is being hidden, why is someone in Cambridge camp so defensive.

Why is William (the royal-press golden boy) so worried about this, is there more going on ,that they are afraid of coming out?

It all comes out in the end, if something is really going on, whatever it is. People in that world, may keep secrets, but they won’t stop talking between themselves about things.

      • Beli says:

I wondered that. I’m not going to venture there for the sake of my sanity, but I would bet any money that that’s what the Daily Fail comment section has concluded.

      • anon says:

        Will is probably “forking” Rose…

    • Lexa says:

I actually wondered if the mention of Meghan and Harry, as well as the gossip starting at dinner parties late last year, was Richard Kay saying without saying that the Sussexes are behind this smear and the last line is a warning of sorts.

I’m inclined to believe this whole story is a nothingburger because Richard Kay is always happy to bash William. If it is truly nothing, it’s super unfair to Rose to drag her into this by accusing her of having an affair with William or doing something awful enough to be shunned by Kate.

  6. Florianight says:

Richard Kay of the daily mail is generally not a fan of the Cambridges. If you read his past articles on William he has been extremely negative.

I doubt this is from kp because it doesn’t make any sense. The article is badly written & all over the place!

    • Jegede says:

Exactly.👍👍 Kay just blows with the wind.

He reads gossip from another paper/blog and voila Kay suddenly has the ‘inside story’

Kay was Diana’s go-to in the years past but he’s been dining out on it ever since.

There’s so, so much stuff the guy has written that has proven to be patently false; including breaking’ the upcoming Harry & Cressida’s engagement exclusively.🙄🙄

And he’s been wrong about Sarah Chatto, Anne, Helen Windsor’s children. Those stories don’t get traction that way the Will/Harry/Kate/Meg do, so he can save face.

    • Ifeoma says:

I just thought of this and I wish it were true: What if Harry and Meghan approached Kay to write this? Amazing plot twist. Lol

      • Jegede says:

        @Ifeoma – Ibo? I’m half Yoruba (half British).😉

        And Kay doesn’t like William.

He just dislikes Harry & Meghan more.

        It’s as simple as that.
His ‘exclusive’ is trying to call collect on a story that bypassed him while putting his own spin with his personal feelings.

      • Ifeoma says:

@ Jegede, yeah I am. Nice to see a fellow Nigerian here.

      • Linda says:

Hi Ifeoma and Jegede, great to see Nigerians here too. I am also Igbo but living in Nigeria.

      • Kemi says:

Hello. nice seeing my fellow naija people. Am yoruba and I live in lagos

      • Princessk says:

I am actually a real Yoruba Princess…lol!😆 Nice to see so many of my brethren standing solidly in support of the lovely Duchess of Success!

      • Ifeoma says:

Great to see you all!! I was born and brought up in Lagos. I’m currently in Ibadan.

    • V says:

      @”And Kay doesn’t like William.
He just dislikes Harry & Meghan more.
      It’s as simple as that.
His ‘exclusive’ is trying to call collect on a story that bypassed him while putting his own spin with his personal feelings.”
This is my take as well.

    • MA says:

Ever since Meghan, all of the royal reporters have done a 180 on the Cambridges and now they can do no wrong.

  7. Va Va Kaboom says:

There were only some small vague stories about this up to now, right? This didn’t seem like a big or popular story to me. So William going straight to Kay seems like a seriously overblown reaction…

Especially considering the radio silence we’ve gotten from him about the “feud” between Kate and Meghan. Has he ever responded before like this when slightly unflattering gossip about Kate starts making the rounds?

    • Mego says:

I think it’s more likely this is a Carole intervention, not William. Carole cares deeply about Kate’s reputation.

      • 90sgirl says:

I can see that too, in a way , since she just did the article with RKay concerning Party Peices.

  8. Iknow says:

Yet he was okay with his brother’s pregnant wife being vilified for making his “English Rose” cry. Also, what the hell does Kate’s rivalry between this woman has to do with Meghan and Harry?

  9. Peg says:

Wonder why Richard Kay is on the toilet, maybe his piles are inflamed again.
He is pissed because, he is suppose to be a Royal insider, and Meghan’s friends drop the hammer on Thomas through American media.
Prince Charles is friendly with people in the entertainment industry for decades.
I think the British media thought their personal attacks on Meghan, would render her useless, but they did not know who they were dealing with, PC did not pull that nickname Tungsten out of the air.

  10. Melly says:

    Doth protest too much…

Now I think there is something legitimately going on between these 2 couples. Can the British media write ONE story that doesn’t include a dig at Harry & Meghan? I guess not.

  11. Beach Dreams says:

Saw the article last night and couldn’t believe the mess I was reading. This man actually had the nerve to claim that a rumor about rich women fighting could fan the flames of republicanism (?!?!!). Ive gone from being mildly skeptical about this feud to wondering what dirt is being hidden behind the scenes. This was an excessive piece even by royal reporter standards.

    • MA says:

I found like line about “fanning the flames of republicanism” especially hilarious considering how some of the royal reporters defend their catty coverage of Meghan by acting like they’re holding power to account. Yeah, that biracial American newly married to the sixth in line is the real power they must check. Not the monarch, the heir, or the heir’s heir who hold the pursestrings to billions of pounds. So for Meghan, they’re being objective and providing a check to privilege. Yet in these articles about William, they reveal themselves as the ardent royalists they are..because any criticism of him (and any support for Meghan) is a nefarious plot to overthrow the monarchy. Even if this absurd notion were true, why should “objective” reporters care?

  12. Mae says:

The excerpt really sound like someone has been whispering in Kay’s ears and demanding some damage control via DM.
But what really pisses me off is that Meghan’s name (OF COURSE!!!) has to be dragged into this stupid story. Always with the dig at Meghan at the expense of making Kate look better. Seriously enough! Also enough with putting Kate in this pedestal which she frankly hasn’t earned and the rewriting of her history is just laughable.
I hope that whoever ran to Kay (maybe William like Kaiser said?) for this damage control, didn’t tell Kay to add that little dig about Meghan and it was all Kay’s idea. Because if it was anyone connected to the Cambridges and they knowingly told or approved Kay to write that bit about Meghan, then I can see why the Sussexes (especially Harry) might want to get the hell out of KP.

  13. Ariel says:

William turned a nothing story into a blockbuster horror show. The best kind of horror is the one that doesn’t show the facts/monster but let’s each viewer’s imagination think of the worst thing possible.
So whether one thinks Kate got her foot stepped on and declared war, or that Rose cut Kate out of an event, or that somebody got fucked that shouldn’t have- the sky’s the limit.
And every time a story with Will or Kate’s fingerprints on them throw Meghan under the bus- her power grows.

  14. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

My favorite line:. They are presented under serious headlines and, if nothing else, will be grist to the mill for the cause of republicanism, bringing a glow to the hearts of anti-monarchists everywhere.

  15. Beli says:

Wow. This was such a minor story. I’d only read about it on here, so to have the denial emblazoned at the top of the DM site is bizarre. The Prince doth protest too much…?

And of course the sneers about the Sussexes have to feature too. William is known for his tantrums, but sure, it’s Harry doing the footstomping. And Kate carries out her duties with enthusiasm (snort) and Meghan is a diva… Rolling my eyes.

All this does is make it clear that there is *something* going on. Whether it’s what is rumoured, I don’t know, but for William to get Kay to make such a prominent rebuttal so quickly… I want to know the full story!

  16. Rae says:

Wow, they really did go full on “throw the brother and sister in law under the bus”.

I just don’t get why people generally don’t acknowledge this side of The Cambridges.

  17. Flying fish says:

Why is it that Nathan and Harry are being dragged into this?

  18. Gemima says:

Serious question: why are we so sure that it is the Cambridges who are the source for Kay’s article?

And that shoehorning of Harry and Meghan into this story is quite something! I admit I never follow links to the DM or the Sun, for obvious reasons, and I did read this one and it’s just so dumb. Can’t believe people bother reading that trash and believing it.

    • Ira says:

MTE. Royal job seems easy, but I think there are much works behind it and I don’t think KP prioritizes gossip over other things. I hardly imagine William or Jason Knauf phoned Kay and dictated him “You should write this and this and, oh don’t forget to add some dig to my little brother and his wife”. Why would he do that and what could he gives to Kay in return?

    • Beach Dreams says:

Kay also wrote the damage control article about Party Pieces after the initial reports about its vulnerable position. I don’t know if the Cambridges directed this article but it does seem over the top defense for what was basically a rumor about some housewives’ feud. They’ve had friends speak out for them before.

  19. Ira says:

How do you know William is behind this article?

    • Marr says:

“Which was why yesterday William was determined to act as extraordinary rumours engulfed his family, threatening to disrupt their domestic tranquillity.”

It’s literally in the DF story that William is behind this denial.

  20. Iknow says:

Did I correctly read that William might have been interested in the Marchioness during the “Great Wait”?

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Indeed you did – William was interested in many of the aristo girls during the Great Wait but the ALL turned him down. Mostly because they did not want the Royal life but also because he is an unpleasant boor.

    • Sharon Lea says:

Ha, I hadn’t heard that phrase before, the “Great Wait” LOL

  21. Millenial says:

Gee whillikers, a simple “it’s false” would do.

  22. Akua says:

He an ass, he didn’t protect his gf turn wife…let hope for the kids and Kate sake it just friends fallout. Again I said it he is Charles mini.

  23. boz says:

Oh, ok, I get it : the Daily Mail creates a story about a couple of look-alike aristocrats (they’re both attractive, so they must be competitive!), so they can write another story about how it’s all a big misunderstanding put out there by malacious jelly people (in other words, not the DM).
And they get to slam Harry and Megs for good measure in the follow up story.

    Right.

Got to hand it to them, the DM knows how to sell copy.

  24. Emily says:

Listen, they can’t have a falling out because they aren’t even really that close! The Marques is too old for young William! They’ve only been to each other’s houses exactly 3 times. But these not-really-friends are very upset there’s rumors that they’re fighting!

    • Beach Dreams says:

😉 Yep. All of these unnecessary details about how totally not close these couples are. All to shut down petty gossip about some “turnip toffs” as their little group is callled.

    • MA says:

lol KP is totally panicking. I can see why H&M were not impressed. Sara Latham would never.

  25. Beach Dreams says:

The Mirror is also hopping on the “nothing to see here, please move right along” train. And besides that, whatever happened to all the people screaming “never complain, never explain” during the People article with Meghan’s friends? At least some of this denial had to come from someone connected to the Cambridge camp.

    • Lisa says:

Different rules for Meghan. She apparently has no feelings and must continue to take abuse and malicious gossip. Any defense of her is inappropriate. Don’t forget Kate is always the victim and never puts a foot wrong!

    • Sid says:

Ms/ Mr. Beach Dreams, I am cackling. Never explain indeed.

    • MA says:

I posted this downthread, but it’s interesting that the Mirror’s own Fleet Street Fox contradicted their article and actually DOES think that there’s something more to the story.

      • Beach Dreams says:

I see it. How curious…she doesn’t tweet often about the royals. I’d guess that a good portion of the British press probably knows the scoop. Maybe not everything, but definitely more than they’re telling us.

  26. Becks1 says:

Such a bizarre denial. If the initial story wasn’t true, then just let it go. But this over the top denial, insistence that they weren’t actually that close anyway, etc – it’s just weird and makes the initial story seem true (or at least more true than some may have thought at first. )

    • notasugarhere says:

The line about threatening legal action from both couples was an interesting.

      • 90sgirl says:

Yes , the word threatening , was that a message to those in Aristo land who know things to shut up?

Threatening , wow, someone is worried.

      • Becks1 says:

Yes, bizarre and interesting lol. Even if this story was completely made up, why threaten legal action? Richard Kay didn’t put that line in there on his own. It makes me think there is a lot of “there,” there and someone wants to shut it down fast, and in so doing we have this story which is just going to stir up more interest. This really does have william written all over it, bc he thinks he’s such an expert at PR i can see him thinking “this will end the gossip!”

When in reality this just lights a fire under it.

I wonder if either the affair theory is true, or if Rose has some significant dirt on the Cambridge’s.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

@Becks1 – my theory is that Rose may have inadvertently spilled some tea on one of Williams indiscretions. I don’t think they are getting it on but she may know who he (William) is/was diddling. There is def something there that has the Cambridges worried – what does William want to hide? Threatening legal action is something they only do when they are worried about something that they want shut down.

Its either an affair or its how little he is spending with his young family, instead off partying like he’s a young single man.

      • Becks1 says:

@DigitalUnicorn – good point about the time William spends with his family. That is something that would hurt the image they so carefully project. Maybe rose knows that William is never around? IDK.

Whatever it is – it’s something. Yesterday I was of the mind that this could be a total made up non-story, or maybe there was some truth to it – and now I’m like “OMG THIS STORY IS TRUE WHAT HAPPENED.”

      • Nic919 says:

Maybe William is constantly over at her place hanging out with her husband which is why she knows he isn’t with his kids.

Whatever it is, when vague unenforceable threats of legal action are made, there is something that they want hidden. The wonderful KP PR team is at it again, throwing gas on fires that would have gone out on their own.

      • Marr says:

Interesting twitter tidbit from the guy who originally broke the story.

        @richardeden
“Intriguing follow-up by @danwootton in @TheSun to my item last weekend about Prince William’s friend Rose Cholmondeley.”

Prince William’s friend. Not Kate’s. Also from the same guy: “a right royal storm in a bone china teacup”. Ummm, so someone’s fighting over a bone? 😀

      • MA says:

@notasugarhere – That part struck me because…. WHAT could they possibly sue for? It doesn’t even make sense. I highly doubt you can sue in the UK for saying some people aren’t friends anymore.

First of all, no one cared before about this friendship and they’re all so rich and insulated, so how could they possibly even be impacted? Plus I mean, if both couples were really worried about this impact to them, they could just make some appearance together or deny it. It’s so bizarre that such a furor has been raised over something so boring that there must be something more to it. The press have always speculated on the royals’ friendships but if you’re really friends with these people, and all your friends know you are, then why would you care? It doesn’t really impact any of those friendships and you never see any royals up in arms over all the speculation (see all the articles blaming Meghan for Harry supposedly growing apart from his friends).

Someone is scared and lashing out by making empty legal threats. And it also strikes me as one-sided. Apparently Rose Cholmondeley’s parent’s said they couldn’t comment on the story.

    • bonobochick says:

So you’re thinking a Streisand Effect here with that denial, Becks1?

  27. Abby says:

Why did this kind of story not get written to dispel the feud between Kate and Meghan? Why now?

Also the slamming of the sussexes is just so random and unnecessary.

    • 90sgirl says:

Because the British press is invested in William and Kate being seen as golden to the public, on some level ,even if it’s all a facade and bull.

      • Tina says:

They’re not invested in it, it’s explicitly their agenda. The thing about the British press is that if they keep telling the same story for years, they think everyone will believe it. If anyone can turn that around, Meghan can, but she’s facing an uphill battle.

  28. guest says:

Lol if William ran to kay to big himself and kate up by trashing harry and Meghan then he needs a refund. That article is such a joke. Kay really laid it on thick. Poor wittle prefect kate, who is destined to be the greatest royal wife/consort being picked on.

I still think there is more to the story and I hope karma will make an appearance in the near future.

  29. Mindy_dopple says:

Ok so I have a new theory. As some have mentioned, William may have been interested in Rose during (as they put it) the Great Wait. The Sun also had a nice little side by side of the women’s stats (like they’re fighters). Home, spouses, estimated worth). Rose definitely came up on top and with less pressure and more money and time spent in Norfolk. Naturally she would be closer to everyone there. Either two theories apply, Kate is extremely envious of Rose’s life, she could have done the same I’m sure, married someone fabulously wealthy and done/done. But she had to go with her mothers social status hunting and waited for William. They’re status is waning, with Brexit, they’re popular and lovable sister in law and brother. Position isn’t everything anymore. Maybe in a fit Kate decided she didn’t want to spend more time with them because it made her hate her life?

Or William tried to make a pass at Rose and was SHUT DOWN hard. And it’s really him who said they should phase out that family. Kate is just being used as a reason and now look at the mess he made. This is my favorite because it just gets messier and messier and now Kate is wondering why the hell this all started.

    • 90sgirl says:

I think it fits Kates modus operandi more to drop a girlfriend if one attracts an eye of jughead ,even if it’s nothing more than innocent ,lite flirtation or him just being or becoming close friends with.

Yes it’s getting messier and messier with the big denial story.

    • sunny says:

I thought this story was all nonsense but something might be there because of this denial story.

    • A says:

Another interesting tidbit–Rose has a sister, Marina, who is married to another aristocrat, the Earl of Durham. In a lot of ways, they’re pretty much the sorts of people who the Middleton sisters want to be–well-connected, wealthy aristocrat adjacent folks who married “well” according to the Wisteria sisters’ definition of the term.

  30. guest says:

Lmao…William made it worse. It originally was a none story, but now people are questioning it more and more. Oooh that tea is hot now.

This is why I’m glad harry and meghan are moving away from kp and their press office. Someone should have told William this would make the story worse.

  31. Meganbot2000 says:

Haha, Kate and the Middletons have never put a foot wrong?

Remind me which Duchess was caught having sex on a balcony in view of a public road, flashed her naked backside at the press on more than one occasion, is repeatedly slammed for being lazy and workshy, who regularly ducks out of what were supposed to be day-long events after 20 minutes to get her hair done, who wears hot pink to memorials, who lost half her staff due to her interfering mother and refusal to obey protocol, who has siblings with Nazi scandals, gun scandals, rapist in-laws, and who have tried to pimp out the royal connection for all its worth to launch an embarrassing flop career, whose family attempt to launch rival courts and even stage trashy wannabe-posh Boxing Day Shoots, whose uncle is a junkie pimp who beats up women in public, etc. etc. etc.

    Hint: Not Meghan.

(I like Kate fine as a person, but this whitewashing of the past and pretending she’s never put a foot wrong when objectively her tabloid scandals and protocol breaches far outweigh Megan’s “ooh once she wore nail varnish and apparently the Queen doesn’t like that even though all the younger royals do it SCANDAL!!” alleged protocol breaches is ridiculous.)

    • sunny says:

Welcome to the difference in being British and non-British, and more importantly the different ways you are judged when you are black and not white.

See Obama’s tan suit scandal for reference…

      • Mia says:

@Sunny or the outrage with Michelle Obama showing her arms.

      • MA says:

@sunny +1 I can’t take seriously anyone who doesn’t acknowledge there’s a huge disparity in how Meghan is treated. The bar set for the newest royal, the only one who hasn’t only known a life of complete privilege, is so much ridiculously higher than it is for any member of that family.

    • Linda says:

      @Meganbot2000
When was Kate caught having sex in public? I have never heard of that. Do you have links to the story?

      • Beli says:

I think they’re referring to the France incident where Kate was photographed naked. There were stories at the time that said that the photographer also caught Kate and William engaging in an “act of marriage” or similar, if I’m remembering correctly.

      • minx says:

        I never heard that either!

      • Digital Unicorn says:

As Beli says the editor of the magazine that published the topless photo’s said that the ones published were tame compared to the ones they didn’t and alluded to them being caught engaging in ‘an act of marriage’. From what I can recall it was alleged/rumoured that she was giving him a BJ. Those photo’s have been scrubbed from the net, which as part of the lawsuit they took out – they may still be available on some members only Royal blogs.

What bothered me at the time was that they brushed off the paralympians to go swan off to the South of France to ‘prep’ for an upcoming tour – I think it was the tour that Big Willy bragged about never readying his prep notes. This was when the UK was hosting the Olympics and these 2 were quite visible for the main games but couldn’t be bothered to give any support to the paralympics.

    • Melanie says:

Sex on a balcony?!? When was that?

      • Vintage says:

        Dang. Missed that one.

      • Feeshalori says:

And the further controversy was that they were supposed to attend the Paralympics and backed out due to some excuse but instead vacationed at Viscount Linley’s estate in France.

      • lily says:

There are pictures of her and William being…intimate on the balcony in the south of France; I came across them on a royal forum a while ago

    • Fluffy Princess says:

@Meganbot2000 — I’m with Linda. Hold up, here. WHEN was Kate caught having sex in public? Was it with William? Someone else. Even if there is no link, I need DETAILS! Please? 🙂

    • V says:

Those pics in France where a gross invasion of privacy, whether there were other photos or not. Also, questionable relatives and nazi scandals shouldn’t be really brought up in this case..

      • Mego says:

Never one to jump to defend W&K but them having sex is no scandal and it was a heinous invasion of privacy. This is not on my list of Kate’s missteps.

      • Salvation says:

Meh, privacy would be in their house in their b from, not on a balcony where anyone curious enough course use a long range lense and get some great shots and videos.

      • anon says:

        Really? Why not?

      • notasugarhere says:

having sex on the balcony in full view of the workers in the lavender field, the hotel staff, and RPOs? It is a choice anyway. It wasn’t a private home. It was the building on Linley’s estate he runs as a lux hotel.

  32. Sarah says:

I think there is some truth in this gossip. And LMAO at William who thought that this article was a good idea

  33. Mumbles says:

Fun fact for Call the Midwife fans – Chummy was from the Cholmondeley family, hence the nickname. She seems a lot nicer than this lot.

  34. aquarius64 says:

William was stupid to make Kay his attack dog. Speculation now grows. People are going to wonder if William is interviewing Rose for the job official mistress who has an old courtier husband to look the other way. Kate will put up with it for the status and the Middletons won’t raise a stink. Party Pieces is rumored to go under and they may need Normal Bill to float them money like he did for the Buckleby manor house.

    • lily says:

“Speculation now grows” What a great point. Because speculation won’t just come from us, the people but from fellow journalists who are very aware of the politics behind royalty as well as Richard Kay’s rep in media x royal circles. He should have just have let the story die, rather than adding fuel to the fire by getting Kay of all people to write a gushing piece in the Mail because now other reporters will be digging around for information about the Cambridges’ friendships…..and their marriage.

      • Lilly (with the double-L) says:

+1 +1 I remember reading a long time ago that Camilla’s hubby was fully aware of his wife and Charles, but just let it slide and that it was only because it became so public that the divorce happened. It was probably best to have left this one alone, W&K.

      • MA says:

The question is, will the media even bother to dig into W’s potentially shady dealings? Ever since Meghan, the Cambridges can do no wrong, even according to royal reporters who used to write pretty withering articles about them.

  35. Esmerelda says:

William gives good side eye… subtle but hilarious, somebody needs to meme that pic!
And the story sounds like some small local thing that is being made much of, for no good reason

  36. Lala11_7 says:

Everything that I have seen about Meghan from her being a little girl…to a teen…to a young woman…to now….let’s me know that she’s a kind and decent person…someone I could TRULY hang with….so I’ma ride with THAT…and just watch this crap as I sip hot Earl Grey…with milk and 2 lumps sugar of course….

    • harla says:

I completely agree Lala! Meghan strikes me as the kind of woman who is a wonderful friend, supportive, kind and wickedly funny! If you want to scoot over a bit I’ll join you on the couch and we’ll sip our Earl Grey and watch the crap 🙂

      • Mia says:

hope y’all don’t mind but please make room on the couch. I’ll bring slices of my mama’s homemade cake

      • Vintage says:

I know. It doesn’t get much better than this! It’s like a Regency novel come to life today.

    • MA says:

+1 Truly kind since she was a kid. How could anyone think Doria Ragland would raise her child otherwise? She was Homecoming Queen at her all girls’ school, something you don’t become unless people truly like you (like that former shy classmate who received a note from Meghan that had a profound impact on her life).

  37. Jj says:

Stop linking this to Harry and Meghan. This is not related to them. William is selfish. Contrary to belief, he never commented on Kate and Meghan because it benefits him. Better to let the wife get slammed rather than himself. So there must be something he is hiding this time. Totally think that he has affair.

  38. V says:

If they write a story about W&K and they throw Meghan and Harry into the mix,it’s pure and simple clickbait. I don’t know why some people are so sure that William is not only leaking a denial (word for word) but he’s also adding a precise side note saying “don’t forget to smear my brother and his wife!”
It doesn’t really look to me that Richard Kay is covering a cheating scandal. His piece is about a “plot” to damage Kate, which is funny and interesting at the same time because he’s already setting the follow up about who is spreading these rumors ,lol.

    • lily says:

Meghan and Harry’s names weren’t in the headline for the piece so the idea they are only mentioned for clickbait doesn’t hold up.

  39. whosays says:

Someone on twitter who does not talk about the royal quoted the original none story that willy’s affair with Rose might come out but only if the international press publish it. She stated that she has two source that confirmed it. I think the royal press will not publish anything bad about them because the don’t want to lose more access but we will see.

    • Beach Dreams says:

I saw those tweets too and they’ve been deleted now. I’m always wary of random people on Twitter making such claims but like you said, she doesn’t otherwise tweet about the royals.

  40. Liz says:

I’m glad there was a firm denial on this, seemingly brought on by how top-heavy the story was getting. The rivalry angle was obviously drummed up. I can’t put my finger on it, but I have a nose for gossip, and this story seemed like it was trying too hard. Ironically, Rose and Kate may have been brought closer by this shared experience.

    • Lady D says:

You realize this firm denial is only going to make everyone more curious, right? There is nothing like a firm denial to double the inquiries into the story. It makes people think there is something to hide and what could that be? Just based on the comments here, almost no one is buying this over-the-top denial.

      • MA says:

@Lady D – THIS. I saw this headline the other day without a second thought because it’s so dull and no one knew who this artisto woman was until today. But the multiple over the top rebuttal pieces and denials have, funny enough, made it into a bigger story. Like we get it, William is a saint and Kate is an angel, both sent from the heavens to bless us lowly peasants with their radiant beauty and goodness lol. Someone at KP panicked.

      • MsIam says:

Exactly @MA! Kate (or her mother) doesn’t want to be queen, she wants to be canonized. I could almost hear harps and violins playing as they described “hard-working” Kate. On another note, maybe the original story came from the Charles/Camilla camp? Too many stories about the “future queen (and king) “?

      • Salvation says:

@Misam, the original DF article was published on March 15, so no way PoW or Camilla is responsible for this. I know how many on here like to pieverything bad under the sun on prince Charles and duchess Camilla or prince Harry and duchess Meghan but this time no, they are not responsible for William and Kate $h!t. This is squarely on William and Kate, full stop. The rumor mill started going late 2018, so again no to blaming PoW and DoC or DDoS for William and Kate crap.

      • MA says:

@MisIam / @Salvation – I just can’t see it coming from C&C for some reason. I think it’s more likely that there’s been some chatter/gossip that got out among the aristo crowd.

  41. Ader says:

    Conspiracy:

Saturday night in Bucklebury. It’s late, the local closes, and Carole Middleton finds herself at home, bored and slightly buzzed, roiling about those sneering miscreants at the pub that night who, she just KNEW, were gossiping about the Turnip Toff scandal! Inhibitions lowered, Carole decides to take things into her own hands. “Ghet me Dickey Kay!,” she slurs ever so slightly, with a manipulative twinkle in her eye……

  42. Sparkly says:

Oh, yes, THIS is unacceptable “toxic” gossip. Poor Kate (and Wills, I’d never forget you, Wills), treated so *viciously* in the press. How dare they!

And because peasants simply don’t understand subtlety, *of course* she’s never stepped out of place once, has attended ~every~ duty with ‘enthusiasm’, and has a loyal and fame-shy family with absolutely no ties to the press ever.

  43. Lowrider says:

This was a total non-story that has turned into a story because of Richard Kay.

  44. Bella Bella says:

I don’t believe the first story and I don’t believe the second supposed denial story. It’s all made up by the press. They can do that with the royals exactly because the royals’ policy is to not comment on the press. Believe me. I have worked with someone of similar standing as them. It was astonishing the stories invented by the press about her. It’s all bunk!

  45. MA says:

Fleet Street Fox’s take on all this:

“”Inaccurate” is usually code for “there’s a lot more to it”.”

    https://twitter.com/fleetstreetfox/status/1110118381993316352?s=20

  46. Silas Marner says:

This denial reminds me of the Broken Britain story last fall or the DM story from several years ago when a reporter sarcastically apologized and revealed she had been pulled aside by William and Kate’s people about her articles on them.

Richard Kay is not a stupid person and would understand how how his over-the-top response would make people react. This is malicious compliance.

The DM is making mischief here.

And to threaten legal action over the Chomondoley story while staying quiet about slandering Harry and Meghan is why Kay included the insults. He is mocking everyone.

  47. sassafras says:

I feel like this is William’s version of a “love shield” (Was that Lainey’s term?). Or possibly TQ called him to see what was going on in Norfolk and so he got his knickers in a twist. It’s all so hamhanded it’s either a nothingburger that got 150% overplayed or it’s totally true and worse that anyone knows.

  48. Mar says:

I love how British people have such cool titles.
I wish we had that in the states

    Britney Spears Duchess of Cheetos?

  49. Danielle says:

I believe that there is alot more going on here because all this denying, distracting and deflecting is suspicious to me. The Cambridge’s a.k.a William didn’t even do all of this when there were rumors of a Kate and Meghan feud which tells me that William has something he is trying to keep a lid on. Now apparently William and Rose have been having an affair and the Norfolk set of aristos know about it and have been keeping quiet about it (ala Charles and Camilla’s affair being kept hush hush back in the day).

Now I truly do not care if William is cheating on Kate because she is a grown woman who knew what she was getting herself into when she married the cheating bastard but involving and insinuating Harry and especially Meghan into this mess by making it seem like Meghan is behind this does not sit right with me. Harry and Meghan have enough that they are going through between waiting for the arrival of their first child, moving into a new home, plus dealing with Meghan’s paternal relatives to give a damn about William and Kate’s domestic life.

    • Yami says:

Yeah, this looks highly suspect to me. If William hadn’t gotten up to tricky stuff on that guys sky trip a few years ago I’d say nah, he strikes me at too vanilla, but then again, I would never in a thousand years have expected Charles to cheat on Diana, with Camilla of all people.

    • MA says:

+1 Yeah I never click on Cambridge articles because they usually don’t interest me *shrug*. I’m only here because I saw the Meghan bashing and that does not sit right with me either. Of course, just like Obama, everything is #Meghansfault.

Funny thing is, no one cared about this story. I saw the headline the other day and just skimmed right on through without a second thought, it’s a yawner. But the defense articles being fired off at a 5:1 ratio have really made it much worse. It makes me think that there’s something deeper there.

  50. Princessk says:

Whatever was said must be a serious accusation, since legal action is being threatened to whoever started the story.

    • Beach Dreams says:

That’s the thing though…the initial story was so vague you could call it a “nothing burger” (god I hate that phrase). There was nothing in the reporting that was salacious or even remotely interesting; just a couple of high society housewives having an unexplained fall out. People were already dismissing it as more tabloid fiction and the story was primed to be forgotten before the week even started. The fact that Will and co. came out swinging so strongly against this rumor raises some red flags. There was honestly no reason to react to this story at all, let alone have Richard Kay write such a ridiculous denial piece in response. They’re acting like they have something big to hide.

      • Becks1 says:

Exactly, @beachdreams. The original story was boring, but it got picked up by two different outlets right (DM and the Sun? or DM and the Mirror?) about a week apart and then we have this denial. It makes people (like myself) think that not only was the initial story true,* but there is a LOT more to it.

*because that’s the thing, IMO. Even if the initial story was true, about Kate and Rose having a falling out – does anyone really care? If you are Kate fan, you’re going to assume Rose did something awful to her; If you don’t like Kate, you’re going to assume that this is a sign of Kate’s own awful behavior. But does anyone actually care that two artistocratic women in Norfolk have stopped talking, even if one of them is the Future Queen Consort? My guess is no. So this denial just adds fuel to a fire that was basically extinguished the moment it started.

  51. A says:

Is it just me, or is “Turnip Toff” the weirdest nickname for an aristocratic set ever, lmao.

I believe that the Marquess of Cholmondeley is totally out of the loop and not particularly close with William. But I don’t buy that this is the case with Kate and Rose Hanbury. I definitely think that the Marchioness probably upped her local Queen Bee game and Kate got pissed because she wound up being shafted at some event or another and took it personally, and that spiraled into something bigger that was spun as the story we saw yesterday.

The most suspicious part of the article is the weird shade at Harry and Meghan. Why?? Just why? Who decided on that particular slant? It’s so out of left field, and it makes the person responsible (either Richard Kay or William himself) look so petty and angry about Harry and Meghan’s popularity. Why bother printing that type of thing?

The whole article doesn’t do much to put to rest the idea that something definitely went down. And I do believe that something went down, even if it’s just Kate’s own (mis)understanding of the situation. Or it could be that Rose Hanbury tried to get Kate kicked out from their local set. She definitely seems to be the more popular, more well-connected one out of the two tbh. I can’t imagine Kate as a Queen Bee at all–more like a wannabe one yeah, but not an actual one.

Some other thoughts: the whole thing with W&K placing “a premium on trust” when it comes to their friends, and how none of THEIR friends have ever gone to blab to Vanity Fair and People magazine….all while the article extensively quotes “friends of the family”…as if Richard Kay himself wasn’t friends with Diana!! The only people who embarrass Meghan in this capacity are the White Markles, and they’ve been baited into doing so by the Fail regularly. I guess if people like Amal Clooney, Serena Williams and the rest of them were giving their exclusives to Richard Kay, he wouldn’t be shady like this. Too bad he’s stuck dealing with country gossip from the Turnip Toffs instead lol.

Is Rose more connected by birth than Kate? I mean, if Rose is aristo by birthright and not a married in too, well then I could see the class snobbery there. Kate wouldn’t be the true alpha because she didn’t know all the toffs like Rose and her family had. Anyway, maybe if Kate does have beef with this lady, maybe the issue is with Kate liking to beef and not Meghan. Like, Meghan is just too smart to me to start throwing her weight around. Harry might do it for her, but she knows that what side her bread is buttered on. I just can’t see Meghan getting ahead of herself like that. However gauche the British think Americans are.

      • Olenna says:

One of the tabs wrote that Rose’s paternal grandmother was a bridesmaid at the Queen’s wedding. So, I guess only the Norfolk toffs could explain how well connected her family’s been since then. Suffice to say, she’s got more “rank” (and popularity) through marriage and longevity in the area than KM has among that set.

      • MA says:

Check out her Instagram. Her home is grander than W&K’s. She’s posh, stylish, well-connected to aristocratic as well as artistic and fashion circles (at least based on Instagram). She seems pretty sophisticated and cultured, judging by the kinds of events and exhibits she’s hosted on her estate, and it’s hard to imagine her having much in common with W&K.

Also, we know that Meghan is a girl’s girl. No one’s ever had a bad word to say about her except Ninaki, aka the kind of friend who will choose your husband over you. It’s telling that long-term friends have chosen Meghan’s side and aren’t in contact with Ninaki. It’s also telling that Meghan has never once retaliated against the people smearing her. Not Ninaki, friends of her ex, not even her half siblings (who have even had their own children and parents criticize them). No leaks about any of them coming from Meghan. She seems to have character, a “when they go low, we go high” type of person

@Yami, yes Rose’s grandmother was the Queen’s bridesmaid and it says they’ve been friends since they were children. There’s not much out there about her parents, but from what I can gather, while they’re not titled, they did come into an inheritance of a manor house, and they’re really popular and well-connected themselves. Rose’s sister is married to another aristocrat. She went to Stowe school. She pretty much has all the trappings of the aristocratic-adjacent set, which is exactly what I think Ma Midds sort of aspired to be.

Like any institution the rot starts from within. I would never have foreseen a rift between th brothers and their wives..they always seemed tight. I can’t see why William would comment on this story….no smoke without fire so ther must be more to it than meets the eye
..some indiscretion that Kate stumbled upon that caused a scene? Which wouldn’t have been th end of th world except that wills likes to keep his image intact and looks like he’ll go to extremes to protect it….throwing M and H under th bus will be part of his ill advised diversion tactic.

  53. MuttonChop says:

I don’t know why but my first thought reading this is that Wills cheated on Kate with this lady and wants to tamp down any other sniffing around by the press. I seriously have no reason to believe this but it’s such a weird story that it makes me feel like there’s some other reason for distraction than what they’re selling.

  54. Starryfish29 says:

If there’s nothing to the story then there’s no need to spin. This was a nothingburger of a story that would have gone away, but the idiots than run the show at KP just couldn’t help themselves. $10 says Wills put his d*ck where he shouldn’t have.

    • RoyalBlue says:

And I would agree with you starryfish. How else would he achieve his street feed as a future king were it not for philandering. I think this sweet new image of the perfect family, impeccable mom, English rose and future queen etc. is scripted to disguise a hidden truth.

  55. Lindy says:

Just came here to say that this whole storyline makes me think of the absolutely delightful novels and stories of Angela Turkey
Thirkell, who writes about landed gentry and minor aristos in a fictional county in England. It’s exactly this kind of thing: someone snubbing someone else over a ribbon cutting ceremony or a perceived slight in the bedroom one was assigned for a Saturday to Monday.

It’s funny, gently humorous, surprisingly humane and thoughtful underneath it all. But yeah. This story could have come straight from the pages of a Thirkell novel.

  56. Nikki says:

Just popped in to say that the Marchioness is quite a looker. Wow. There is the generalization that the British aristos are a rough looking bunch that the press go gaga over for no reason other than their titles ( posh beer goggles). But this one looks like she is straight out of central casting for lovely English princess. I can see why certain future Queen consorts would be ruffled.

  57. ToscanaIschia says:

Just coming to add that Giles Coren just confirm the affair on Twitter. He’s a journalist.

    • Toot says:

Yeah, I saw it, but he deleted it. Someone must of got to him. Unfortunately for him and Will, some smart people screen grabbed it. lol

  58. xo says:

Ok, so that latest theory is that William had an affair, rumors of said affair are threatening W&K’s “domestic tranquility” & Meghan leaked the story in an act of revenge.

    • MsIam says:

And how do they explain how Meghan would find out about what is going on in the countryside? It’s not like they have the same friends. That Tatler article talked about how Meghan “distanced” herself from other women in that set because they didn’t have anything in common. Maybe friends of this Rose didn’t like Kate freezing her out and leaked the story. Bullies are often not content to freeze someone out, they want all of the gang to turn on them too. Maybe they felt more loyalty to Rose than Kate. But if Will is really banging Rose, then Kate should do more than just freeze her out, lol!
