More than a dozen people gathered in Grand Island Monday to advocate for immigration reform.
The prayer vigil at St. Mary's Cathedral joins similar events that have been going on across the country urging lawmakers to vote for a comprehensive change to the current immigration system.
The participants are asking for a pathway to citizenship for all.
Organizers say bad policy is impacting Nebraska's large immigrant community.
"Families suffer tremendously because of the immigration system that we have now," said Yolanda Chavez Nuncio of St. Mary's Immigration Program. "It's outdated. It's broken and it needs to be corrected."
Chavez Nuncio says she was hoping for an immigration bill before Columbus Day, but now worries other issues in Washington will delay reform.
