Sonian CEO Tim McKinnon Named to the Boston Business Journal's 40 Under 40

CEO recognized as cloud archiving company celebrates 10th anniversary milestone

WALTHAM, Mass.--()--Sonian, the leading provider of public cloud archiving and business insights, is proud to announce that CEO Tim McKinnon has been selected as a 2017 Boston Business Journal 2017 40 Under 40 honoree. McKinnon was honored with the prestigious accolade for his positive impact not only at Sonian, but on the Greater Boston community.

McKinnon joined Sonian as chief executive in 2015, and in two short years helped spearhead the expansion of Sonian’s cloud-based platform to offer email analytics in addition to archiving; established and strengthened relationships with channel partners, including Amazon Web Services, GoDaddy and IBM; and has grown the company's customer roster to include more than 32,000 organizations across 43 countries. Prior to joining Sonian, McKinnon’s career highlights include successful exits at Fast Search and Transfer (acquired by Microsoft in 2008), Endeca (acquired by Oracle in 2011) and Ektron (acquired by Accel-KKR in 2014).

Outside of the office, McKinnon dedicates much of his time to working with the Acton Conservation Commission, where he participates in bi-weekly public hearings, helps to maintain and preserve town conservation lands and wildlife habitat, and visits sites to ensure development meets town and state laws.

"This is the Boston Business Journal's 20th year of recognizing 40 Under 40 honorees, so the class this year has special meaning for us here at the BBJ," said Carolyn Jones, the Business Journal's market president and publisher. "We look forward to sharing all of the honorees’ extraordinary personal stories and celebrating their achievements along with their coworkers, friends and family at our event."

Every year, Boston Business Journal honors the area's brightest young professionals who are the achievers, innovators and leaders in their field. McKinnon was selected as a 40 Under 40 honoree from a highly competitive pool of 350 award nominees. Along with 19 other men and 20 women who represent the “best and brightest” of those working and living in the Bay State, McKinnon will be recognized at an awards ceremony on October 19, 2017 at the YMCA of Greater Boston.

"It’s a real honor to join this year's class of 40 Under 40 honorees," said McKinnon. "I'm grateful for the support I have received from family and friends, and for the team at Sonian that has worked so closely with me these last two years. While we celebrated Sonian's 10th anniversary this year, we've kept the startup mentality that's gotten us to where we are today, and will continue to stay hungry to drive our ongoing success."
