AS IF THIS ISLAND DOESN’T HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS OF IT’S OWN MAKING ….. NOW THIS?

Honestly folks I’m not certain if this sort of thing is exactly right or of great interest to an American blog site. On the other hand, why not show you how stupid people in power can get over here?
It might make some of you feel better about our own dear country, the USA, and hope things do not go down the same road.
I am talking about national sovereignty. Again.

There was a headline in yesterday’s Telegraph on the front page. I ignored it till today coz there is yet another dipsy doodle moonbat decision made OUTSIDE this country, and hoped that England will follow. Or maybe demand that England will follow.

First ... Under a headline that read EUROPE TO PUSH FOR MORE ASYLUM SEEKERS IN BRITAIN .....
It got me to wondering if they might be secretly doing the same re. the USA. Hey, ya never know. But for now the story is centered here.
The on line headline differs from the hard copy but the story is the same.  And stay here with me cause this isn’t all there is that the masters in the EU want from this island.

EU to appoint human rights commissioner
A powerful new European commissioner for human rights who is expected to push for new protection for asylum seekers and workers is set to be appointed later this year.
By Robert Winnett, Deputy Political Editor
14 Sep 2009

The new commissioner for fundamental rights and social rights is expected to put pressure on Britain to accept more asylum seekers from across Europe. Several Mediterranean countries claim they are being put under undue strain from the increasing numbers of migrants arriving from Africa on their shores.
Pressure groups also warn that the commissioner is likely to push for an end to Britain’s opt-out from the working-time directive which limits the maximum working week to 48 hours.

The establishment of the powerful new role is a centrepiece of the re-election campaign of Jose Manuel Barroso as president of the European Commission. It will put human rights on the same footing as trade, competition and agriculture within the Commission.
Mr Barroso, who is expected to be re-elected on Wednesday, pledged to increase the human rights role of the EU to win the backing of liberal and socialist parties across Europe.

Europe’s previous involvement in the rights of asylum seekers and workers has proved controversial in Britain. It is blamed for controversial legal decisions which have protected the rights of foreign criminals. Business leaders also complain that laws from Brussels have stifled enterprise by imposing unnecessary red tape on employers.

The appointment of the new commissioner is also likely to add pressure on the Conservatives to fundamentally renegotiate Britain’s relationship with Europe if David Cameron is elected Prime Minister. A poll for today’s Daily Telegraph has found that a majority of Britons want a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty – even if the new constitution has already been introduced.

Small businesses may suffer from “severe staff shortages” after a landmark ruling allowed workers to claim back holiday time lost to illness.

Lawyers have warned that the European Court of Justice judgement would be open to abuse by dishonest workers who wanted to extend their holiday entitlement.

Under the terms of the ruling, disclosed in The Daily Telegraph, employees could claim they had a cold or flu while on leave — taking the day off sick rather than counting it against their annual leave entitlement.

Roger Helmer MEP, Conservative employment spokesman in the European Parliament, said: “This ruling will create a legal minefield for businesses, particularly small businesses, who have to plan all leave extremely carefully.
“During the summer holidays, this ruling could leave small businesses vulnerable to severe staff shortages.”

Meanwhile employment lawyers said that some firms may choose to reduce holiday allowance for staff as a result of the ruling.
Edward Wanambwa, partner at law firm CM Murray, said: “Many employers will feel frustrated that the ECJ has increased, further, employees rights in this area, particularly at a time when many employers are counting their pennies.

“Some employers may even consider reducing additional contractual holiday entitlements for new employees as a way of offsetting costs associated with annual leave.”
The court ruling made clear that if a “worker does not wish to take annual leave during a period of sick leave, annual leave must be granted to him for a different period”.

It came as a result of a case in Spain, but will be binding on the UK as it is a signatory to the European Working Time Directive.
Katja Hall, the director of human resources policy at the CBI, said: “Many firms already take a common sense and sympathetic approach. But allowing employees to reclassify their holiday as sick leave opens the door to abuse.”

Under the terms of the judgment, employees would even be allowed to carry over any annual leave ruined by illness into the next holiday year.

Not that very many people ever read this far down, but this blog was the creation of Allan Kelly and his friend Vilmar. Vilmar moved on to his own blog some time ago, and Allan ran this place alone until his sudden and unexpected death partway through 2006. We all miss him. A lot. Even though he is gone this site will always still be more than a little bit his. We who are left to carry on the BMEWS tradition owe him a great debt of gratitude, and we hope to be able to pay that back by following his last advice to us all:
  1. Keep a firm grasp of Right and Wrong
  2. Stay involved with government on every level and don't let those bastards get away with a thing
  3. Use every legal means to defend yourself in the event of real internal trouble, and, most importantly:
  4. Keep talking to each other, whether here or elsewhere
It's been a long strange trip without you Skipper, but thanks for pointing us in the right direction and giving us a swift kick in the behind to get us going. Keep lookin' down on us, will ya? Thanks.

Oh, and here's some kind of visitor flag counter thingy. Hey, all the cool blogs have one, so I should too. The Visitors Online thingy up at the top doesn't count anything, but it looks neat. It had better, since I paid actual money for it.
