Historic Zoning Commission


The Historic Zoning Commission promotes the identification, evaluation, rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, and restoration of the Town's historic, architectural and archaeological resources through the enforcement of the Historic District Overlay.  It is the purpose of the Historic District Overlay to provide for the protection and enhancement of resources which represent distinctive and significant elements of Nolensville's history and identity and insure the harmonious and orderly integration of new development within these historic resources.

The Historic Zoning Commission reviews ANY proposed exterior alterations within the Historic District Overlay for compliance with Section 8.5.13 of the Nolensville Zoning Ordinance.  Any exterior work requiring a building permit, as well as other items, such as:
  • alteration/repair of existing building(s) or structures that require a Building Permit
  • new construction or addition to primary or accessory buildings
  • relocation
  • demolition of some or all of existing primary/accessory buildings or structures
  • signs and awnings
  • fences and walls
  • window replacement
  • siding (not routine maintenance or replacement in-kind) and 
  • roofing (not routine maintenance or replacement in-kind

ACTIVITIES THAT DO NOT REQUIRE A CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS

The Historic Zoning Commission is composed of a minimum of five members and a maximum of nine members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Board of Commissioners. 

The Commission meets as needed on the last Thursday of each month at 3:00 P.M. in the Town Hall Board Room.
