Andy Yan wins the final race of the 2017 season at Guangdong

New champion Andy Yan finished the first TCR China season with a victory at the Guangdong International Circuit, winning the one-hour endurance race on Saturday afternoon in his NewFaster Team Audi RS 3 LMS.

Teamwork Motorsport’s Sunny Wong started from pole, courtesy of his pace in the two sprint races, but both he and the NewFaster Audi of Huang Chu Han both locked up at the start and just missed the gravel trap, dropping to fourth and fifth, allowing Yan into the lead, who was closely followed by the second Teamwork Volkswagen of Alex Hui, with Wang Hao in the NewFaster Team Volkswagen in third.

Wong recovered to third with Huang behind him, but the two came together mid-race at Turn 7 which dropped Wong down the order, while Huang continued on in third.

Yan continued to lead comfortably after the mandatory pit stop ahead of Hui’s Volkswagen. Huang’s car began to falter with three laps to go, and he dropped behind Wang and Wong to finish in fifth, with Wang reclaiming the third spot on the podium.

Li Fei finished the race sixth, seven laps down in the HE Racing Volkswagen, while Deng Bao Wei was the only retirement of the race, stopping at half distance in his Leo109 Racing Audi RS 3 LMS.

The race was the last of the 2017 TCR China season, with Andy Yan already confirmed as the champion after the first sprint race yesterday.
