Intoxicated deputy wrecks patrol vehicle, sheriff says

A sheriff's deputy in Jackson County is accused of driving while intoxicated when he wrecked his patrol vehicle Monday.

Deputy Steven McCullar wasn't on duty when the single vehicle wreck occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Arkansas 37 north of Grubbs.

Sheriff David Lucas said McCullar was north on the highway approaching a curve at a cemetery in the area when the car left the road, ran over a road sign, went into a field and then went back on the highway.

McCullar then drove to another deputy's home, where officials responded and found the patrol car with "major damage," Lucas said in a statement.

"I thank God that there was not another vehicle involved and no one seriously injured," Lucas said.

McCullar was arrested and later booked into the Jackson County jail on charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.
