Tarentum man's lawsuit over Tasering settled
A Tarentum man has settled his civil rights lawsuit against Springdale, two former police officers and the former police chief, his attorney said Wednesday.
Gary Cahill, 36, sued over a Dec. 17, 2011, incident in which former officer Mark Thom Tasered him while he was handcuffed and sitting in the back of a police cruiser.
Thom pleaded guilty in March to a federal charge of depriving Cahill of his civil rights. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 22.
U.S. District Judge Nora Barry Fischer on Wednesday approved a motion by Cahill to dismiss the lawsuit. The motion says that there is a settlement but doesn't provide any details.
Tim O'Brien, Cahill's lawyer, confirmed there is a settlement but otherwise declined comment. Stephen Yakopec, the borough's solicitor, wasn't able to provide information on the settlement.
