My clients often ask me how to manage their goals and responsibilities so that they can get more done. Instead of starting your day with answering emails and voicemails (this of course is working on someone else's "to do" list) start with a standard that will make sure you are growing as a leader while working on BIG PICTURE projects and not just tasks. Keep this list or a similar one on your desk to remind you of what is strategic.

Every Day I Will...

1. Read something related to my industry.

2. Read something related to business development.

3. Send one email to touch base with a former colleague.

4. Respond the same day to every email from a client.

5. Check in with my team on their progress.

6. Have a short non-work related conversation with my direct reports.

7. Review my top three goals for the year focused on growth.

8. Execute one action to support each goal.

9. Post fresh content in one or two social media outlets

10. Take a full minute to appreciate what I have and how far I have come.

Focus on what is important before busy-work tasks consume your day.
