National Winner
Congratulations to recent alum Thipok (Poom) Cholsaipant! His breath glucometer, AeroLyze, is winner of the US national James Dyson Award, and it is part of the competition for the international award from the James Dyson Foundation.
The James Dyson Award is open to current and recent students and is in its fifteenth year. There were 150 entries in the United States, which is the highest number so far. Internationally, there were over 1700 entries from 27 countries. The international award winners will be announced in November.
Cholsaipant, who received his Bachelor of Design degree in June 2020, initially created AeroLyze in an autumn quarter 2019 industrial design class. It was a response to the need for glucose monitoring without finger pricks in people who have prediabetes. More than 1 in 3 Americans have prediabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Cholsaipant has continued his work to make the AeroLyze design a reality. He is using his $2,500 James Dyson Award prize to finalize his prototype, patent AeroLyze, and further develop its capabilities.
