Alabama improves in national stat rankings

Welcome to the end of the first third of Alabama's football season. Four games down, eight to go until the regular season ends Thanksgiving weekend against Auburn.

We also take this opportunity to check in on the Crimson Tide's place in the FBS statistical rankings. It's No. 1 in the two major polls and leads the nation in red zone conversions (18 for 18) with 14 others.

The following comes with a few caveats. Passing offense numbers slipped after a run-heavy attack against Kent State. With only four games in the sample size, one game still has a significant impact on the season-long averages.

The same is true for the 421 passing yards allowed last week at Ole Miss that pushed the Tide's pass defense to No. 98 last week. It's up to No. 55 after giving up 84 to Kent State. The penalty situation also improved considerably. Alabama was flagged just twice for 20 yards Saturday -- improving to 55th nationally from 76th.

Without further delay, here are Alabama's national stat rankings with the perspective from last week.
