A Bridgeport police officer was arrested on Thursday on charges he assaulted his ex-girlfriend and her male companion.
Officer Paul Cari, 43, is accused of going to a home on Sage Avenue and engaging his ex-girlfriend's companion in a physical altercation late Tuesday night. He was off duty at the time of the incident, police said.
The woman told police that Cari made threats during the altercation. It was not clear who Cari is accused of threatening or what those alleged threats were.
Cari turned himself in to police Thursday and his service weapon and department-issued stun gun were turned over.
He was charged with third-degree assault, threatening and disorderly conduct. He was place on paid administrative status, police said.
