Donald Trump on Ghislaine Maxwell: ‘Let them prove somebody was guilty’

General Charles Q. Brown, Sworn-in as the Chief of Staff of the Air Force

I hope Donald Trump’s Axios-on-HBO interview wasn’t just a one-day story. It was completely awful and showed Trump for the sad, petty, stupid clown he’s always been. Axios’ Jonathan Swan got high marks for simply calling out Trump in real time, much like Chris Wallace did several weeks ago in a Fox News interview. Tom & Lorenzo made an interesting point yesterday: three and a half years since Trump came to power, and journalists are finally seeing the writing on the wall and they understand that they don’t have to play nice with an unhinged fascist just to keep access to the White House.

The Axios interview was so bad that most people only focused on the worst parts, the section where Trump could not even say that John Lewis was a good man (“he didn’t come to my inauguration”) and the part where Trump fumbled with papers and charts as he tried to prove that America was not still in the middle of a catastrophic pandemic. But did you know that Jonathan Swan also asked him about Ghislaine Maxwell? Trump’s response: “Her friend, or boyfriend, was either killed or committed suicide in jail. She’s now in jail. Yeah, I wish her well. I’d wish you well. I’d wish a lot of people well. Good luck. Let them prove somebody was guilty.” OH MY GOD. He’s truly sitting there and telling her to keep her mouth shut about his involvement in the human trafficking. Here’s the full interview:

Meanwhile, Trump couldn’t even do a relatively simple National Parks bill signing yesterday without f–king it up. Did you know this grown man has never learned how to pronounce Yosemite? He pronounces it “Yo Semite.”

Jesus, he’s stupid. I don’t have anything else to add but these tweets (which made me laugh more than they should have.)

The National Parks bill and the anti-trafficking stuff Ivanka is pushing is just her pathetic attempt to lure back suburban women voters for Daddy, complete with taxpayer funded videos of Ivanka enjoying taxpayer funded trips to the parks. He allowed hunters to kill hibernating baby bears and he is allowing fracking. He was part of Epstein and Maxwell’s nefarious activities. No amount of Nagini’s makeup should be allowed to cover up these truths

“Did you know this grown man has never learned how to pronounce Yosemite? He pronounces it “Yo Semite.”
Or how about “Prince of Whales”? I will never forget that as long as I live. It still cracks me up.

    • Chrissy says:

I guess he never watched Disney cartoons as a kid. Even I learned to say Yosemite Sam by watching Bugs Bunny. As a child. He’s such an embarrassment.

    • TeamMeg says:

How about the press conference the other day, when three times in a row he pronounced plasma “plozma”. I’m wondering if his vision was blurred and the a looked like an o to him? Obviously he had no idea what he was talking about. #DonatePlozmaToday

    • Juls says:

I wonder if the script writer spelled “duty” as “doody” in his speech because that’s how he pronounced it.

  3. Badrockandroll says:

And there’s this – I’ve watched it over and over, and in between pining for the fiords, I am still giggling: https://youtu.be/yYafgN9edy4

  4. dlc says:

I’m not sure if that is a veiled threat or honest well wishes to a probable child molester.

    • Also Ali says:

I don’t think he knows either.

    • Betsy says:

He said something else right in that part of the interview, something like “big deal” to human trafficking. I gotta say, VIrginia Giuffre was working at Mar a Lago when she got picked out for trafficking and rape by Maxwell/Epstein. What do you want to bet that Trump was a knowing accessory to the human trafficking? Someone suggested that Ivanka’s “modeling” career was actually her being a “scout” for Epstein and Maxwell?

      • Vizia says:

“Big deal” was the absolute worst thing he said, I was surprised it wasn’t jumped on by more media outlets.

      • Mac says:

That was our daily reminder that no matter how low Trump goes, he never reaches the bottom.

I’ve been having the best time reading and listening to the fallout from his HBO fiasco. It’s glorious. I quit hammering him out loud some time ago because if anyone voted for him, I won’t change minds…I can’t make anyone see and understand what they’re unwilling to digest. Now I’m simply smug. I can’t help it. And following his latest interview? I’m walking around with a season eight Cersei smirk. There’s just. So. Much.

    • Noodle says:

@mabs, are you on Reddit? There was an AskReddit thread Monday (??) along the lines of “If you voted for Trump in 2016 and don’t plan to vote for him in 2020, why not?” It was glorious and hilarious and awful reading people’s reasons for not voting for him again, but it really showed at what point people just gave up. Some people cited the “Baby Bunker” incident (“He showed fear when he should have been leading”) and many mentioned the pandemic response and economic fallout. It was a very long read with thousands of responses, but it was fascinating to see at what point people drew the line. Like, they could handle the rampant racism and classism and misogyny and pandemic response (because they were in a Red State), but once he retreated to the Baby Bunker, that was IT. At any rate, I was just happy to read that the tide was turning, and pray these people vote him out in November.

I found the link in case you want to read: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/i375kf/if_you_voted_for_donald_trump_in_2016_but_wont_in/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

      • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

As someone who’s been mainlining news, I think you’re right. The tide didn’t truly turn until this year obviously. And the pandemic brought some revelations especially because of his daily ‘briefings,’ lol. But it was around the time of early protesting that material began to swell far beyond normal. The bunker crap and everything that’s followed has given me more written justice than I can consume, and I bathe in it lmao.

But this last interview? I broke personal protocol and watched most of it (after the fact of course). He’s off the toddler charts stupid, embarrassing and full on vomitus mass. Those laughable charts! I’m so glad he finally said, ‘It is what it is.’ Just let the f@cker talk. Let him person, woman, man, camera, tv himself to hell.

      • Noodle says:

@mabs, your comment “Let him ‘person, woman, man, camera TV’ himself to hell” is giving me life this morning.

  6. Silver Charm says:

He’s shown more empathy for Ghislaine Maxwell than Americans who died from COVID on his watch.

    • Alexandria says:

He’s even proud of the number of cases and deaths.

      • Nan says:

Also, please ask him why he didn’t extend the same well wishes to the Central Park Five young men.

      • fluffy_bunny says:

So he doesn’t care what we are number 1 at just that we are number 1? Leading the world in cases and deaths is winning in his mind?

    • Traveler says:

He only loves thugs, dictators, and degenerates. The rest of us are just noise.

    • shanaynay says:

I have to agree with you. This so called “man” is pure evil!!!!!

  7. KellyRyan says:

It’s the follow up questions which continue to trap him. What books? What manuals? Along with his diagnosis he really is f’n stupid believing he can talk his way around anything. He fails at everything he does. If he doesn’t feel threatened he’ll keep talking. Keep talking Drumpf. The more you talk the more your poll numbers drop.

    • Diana says:

That line of questioning about manuals and books had me laugh-crying. WTF is wrong with his supporters….. this is your guy?! Really????

  8. JJ McClay says:

Somebody please, please tell me: how are conspiracy theorists saying that *this* man is the “only” person doing something about sex trafficking, that he’s the “saviour” for trafficked children? How? Tell me!!!!

And instead of being shocked like the rest of us, they’ll spin this response to suit their narrative. I can’t imagine how, but clearly I’m not as creative as they are.

    • Lightpurple says:

Because Ivanka is making endless videos of herself walking into rooms to say that he’s the only one who has ever done anything on this, which she then has numerous White House staffers and federal agencies circulate and retweet and send to friendly media outlets and gets GOP members running for re-election to retweet and pose for photo ops with her claiming how fabulous she is and she and Daddy are the only ones to ever do anything and we should all be grateful we get to pay for all these videos and self-promotion.

And I firmly believe that she referred teenage girls to Epstein and Maxwell.

      • Esmom says:

Oh wow, I never even thought of Ivanka referring girls. It’s completely plausible. Although I tend to give her younger self a pass because even if she knew it was wrong, she had no adults around her who could be trusted to do the right thing.

      • KellyRyan says:

I agree. Given Ivanka’s involvement in her father’s beauty pageants, always at his side through her childhood and teen years, she was a victim who became an ally and a perpetrator.

      • shanaynay says:

I don’t believe for one second Ivanka was a victim. This chick knew/knows exactly what she’s doing.

      • Betsy says:

@KellyRyan – I suspect she was her father’s victim, yes.

    • Betsy says:

Because all those Republican conspiracy theorists are using projection to deal with the problems endemic to their party. *One* political party has consistently fought against repealing child marriage laws, too. *One* side keeps trying to change the subject when specific people are named, meanwhile every Democrat I have met or read says if any Democrats are guilty, they need to be investigated and prosecuted. *One* party is currently being led by a man who has child rape accusations against him, as well as his own “modeling” company.

    • Emily says:

Sadly my family is part of the camp that believes he’s some sort of savoir for Christians, he’s a saviour for children and he’s the only person standing in the way of the “deep state” and “one world government.” The rationale they give is that in the bible God chose less than perfect leaders to do important things. Like that excuses everything! The worst part is, we’re Canadian and we still fight about the orange one. He hasn’t only brought the crazy out in Americans, it’s become contagious.

You’re right that it’s all projection. There’s extreme cognitive dissonance happening.

  9. Cerise says:

“He loves the Interior”??!?! This imbecile’s stupidity knows no bounds… just when I think he can’t possibly be any more idiotic, he opens his mouth and proves me wrong.

On a different but related note, has anyone watched Immigration Nation on Netflix? It is a brutal and heartbreaking watch but definitely needs to be seen. It shines a light on Trump’s horrific policies and cruelty and the unmeasurable damage and trauma they have inflicted on countless families across the US.

  10. Feedmechips says:

He may as well have just said “I’m that somebody!”

  11. Seraphina says:

    I just can’t anymore.

  12. Giddy says:

Trump is an evil man. His creeping dementia makes some things he says seem funny, but he truly is evil.

  13. Betsy says:

I have not enjoyed watching his dementia progress. Someone played a clip of him from 2016 and even as he wasn’t what I’d have called “bright” back then, his devolution from then to now is stark.

    • Emma33 says:

Beatty – While I was watching that axios interview yesterday I was thinking how interesting it would be to compare him cognitively to an interview from the start of his presidency. I felt like he was sharper then, so thanks for your comment!

    • SomeChick says:

Was his right eye always so droopy compared to his left?

In combination with the WaterGait video, it looks to me like the rushed trip to the hospital was due to a stroke.

Not that he was intelligent or well spoken ever, he seems to have deteriorated quite a bit.

  14. Valerie says:

    That ugly, scowly face. Ugh.

    • whatWHAT? says:

like a mullet – “business up front, party in the back” – except it’s…”burnt orange up front, grayish white in the back”

I mean, that gd LINE that goes down the side of his face will NEVER not weird me out…and he thinks that looks GOOD?! to quote the mom in Edward Scissorhands, “blending is the secret”.

  15. Imogene says:

I decided to torture myself and watch that interview and I am speechless. He is so out of his depth, evil, stupid – I can’t. Truly cannot. It is ridiculous that this is America’s president. I wouldn’t even want this man as my parking garage attendant.

  16. MommaDawna says:

Can we just throw the whole thing away and start over, please.

  17. Cate says:

Respect to Swan for not throwing his notes in the air and walking out exasperated and swearing. He gave a masterclass in keeping it together.
