The annual Art of Fashion takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 at The Inn of Rancho Santa Fe, presented by The Country Friends in partnership with South Coast Plaza. The annual runway show and luncheon features designs from top international luxury brands. This year’s event, emceed by ABC 10News anchor Kimberly Hunt, will benefit dozens of San Diego nonprofits. Genealogy buffs meet virtually Tuesday

The North San Diego County Genealogical Society will host Paula Stuart Warren for a live webinar, “Controlling Chaos: Organizing Your Genealogical Materials,” from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The 32nd annual Taste of Encinitas is set for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 31, with live music, along Coast Highway 101 in downtown Encinitas, hosted by the Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association and presented by Compass. A $40 ticket gets participants tastes from a number of local restaurants and wine and beer samples at Sip Stops. There will also be sparkling water, soda and juice. The Fallbrook Mission Theater presents a Fallbrook Historical Society Fundraiser from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday featuring a screening of the classic 1939 film “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” directed by Frank Capra and starring Jean Arthur and James Stewart, at the theater, 231 N. San Diego Oasis is bridging the technology gap for seniors through its Digital Divide Program by providing free Samsung tablets, Internet for 12 months and training sessions for eligible older adults to boost tech skills and reduce social isolation. Brother Benno’s Auxiliary will host its third annual “Pay It Forward” Charity Golf Fundraiser at the Camp Pendleton Marine Memorial Golf Course on Oct. 5 and seeks sponsors. Free Concert on the Green this evening

Church collecting backpacks, supplies

Village Church is collecting backpacks and school supplies for homeless and underserved children in grades K-6 across the county. Backpacks with supplies will be distributed to the church’s mission partners countywide. Supplies sought include pencils, colored pencils, wide-ruled paper, notebooks, index cards and insulated water bottles that can be placed in backpacks. The deadline to drop off donated items is Aug. 22 at the Village Church, 6225 Paseo Delicias. Also, checks can be sent to the Village Church specifying “backpacks” on the memo line. Shelter to Soldier hosts annual fundraising gala

Oceanside-based nonprofit Shelter to Soldier hosts its ninth annual “Be the Light” fundraising gala, which will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday , at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, 5951 Linea Del Cielo. The gala benefits the nonprofit, which adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Event highlights include small bites, beverages and a silent auction, followed by seated dinner with a veteran testimonial and live auction emceed by auctioneer Clint Bell along with live music by K. ‘Lions Gift of Sight’ event set for Saturday

A “Lions Gift of Sight” service event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 410 W. Writers’ group meets Tuesday afternoons

The San Marcos Writers’ Critique Group meets at 1 p.m. Tuesdays via Zoom for three hours for writers to critique each other’s writings.
