Two incidents of car break-in were reported on the SG Highway in two consecutive days. In both the instances, laptops and cash were stolen after smashing the windows of the parked cars.
On Thursday evening, Bodakdev resident Nihar Mehta (47) had visited a café on SG highway and had parked his SUV on the service road near Mondeal Heights. When Mehta returned, he found the rear window of his SUV broken and his laptop worth Rs 25,000 missing.
A day earlier, on Wednesday evening, Satellite resident Jayesh Teraiya (26) had parked his car on the service road outside the Muktidham Society near Thaltej Crossroads to visit a courier. When he came back to his car, he found one of the windows smashed. Two laptops and Rs 30,000 cash had gone missing from his car.
Cops have formed multiple teams to probe the incidents that appear separate but could have been committed by the same gang. In the past, cops had learnt that gang arrives in rickshaws and then disappears.

Crime committed in less than 10 minutes
From the modus operandi, cops suspect the hand of gangs from South India, who land in Ahmedabad during a specific period of the year and target parked cars. The stolen goods, like laptops and mobiles, are then sold in the black market in South India. The accused do a recce of the city before the crime.
