More than 500 families will be provided with vital nourishment, educational resources, personal care items, and physical activities through a new campaign launched by the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation (SPSF) today.

 "It is of no surprise to anyone that schools are oftentimes a student's safe place.  A place where they can be nourished through nutrition, education, and emotional support," said SPSF Executive Director Zeba Ahmad. "COVID-19 has impacted those most vulnerable in our community. Our schools are closed and these students and their families who rely on additional supports are in great need."

Once a month in May and June, the Cheer Crate Campaign will create a package full of food, learning materials, and necessities that will be delivered to families in need of assistance. Through the work of community school coordinators in Saskatoon Public Schools, more than 500 families have been identified that would benefit from this type of support.  

Corporations and businesses in the community have provided donations of money, food, supplies, and volunteer time. However, more support is needed to fill the cheer crates and meet the needs of families during this unprecedented time.

"The Cheer Crate will meet nutrition, health, and education needs through thoughtful means such as masks, soap, games, books, food, and more. Imagine the delight for both children and parents when they open their Cheer Crate for the whole family to enjoy," said Ahmad.
