Courage does not get much younger or better than this.

A 5-year-old boy pulled his 2-year-old brother out of a flaming tractor-trailer early Friday morning following a crash in Houston that killed their father.

The boys were passengers in the truck being driven by their dad on Interstate 45 when the vehicle ran into a guardrail and a metal pillar.

The older brother had been ejected from the vehicle, but somehow was able to save his brother, according to authorities.

“The 5-year-old actually advised us that he pulled his 2-year-old little brother out from the 18-wheeler wreckage,” Sgt. James Roque said, according to KHOU. “The 2-year-old did have some severe burns to his body, but he’s at Memorial Hermann and they’re saying he’s expected to be okay.”

The truck rolled over and burst into flames, and the dad died at the scene after he was thrown out of the vehicle. The 5-year-old boy was able to recount to authorities what happened. “He’s a trooper,” Lt. Roque said, according to NBC in Dallas Fort-Worth.

Police say they haven’t been able to contact the boys’ mother, who was driving in an RV ahead of the tractor trailor.

Both children were hospitalized and are expected to be fine, according to NBC. It is not known if they were wearing seatbelts.

“The wreckage is just so horrific. It’s just hard to tell,” Lt. Roque said, according to NBC.
