How 6 months became 13 years.. and counting!

Last week I celebrated my 13th work anniversary at Morgan McKinley!

When I walked in the Georgian door of the Pembroke Street office in Dublin in April 2005, things looked a bit different. The company I was joining was Premier Group, a boutique Irish recruitment firm with around 30 employees in Dublin, mainly focussed on Premier Finance and La Creme Office Support vacancies. Back in those days, IT wasn’t the powerhouse that it is now; Verkom arrived on the scene at around the same time.

I had just returned from a 3 month backpacking trip on the east coast of Australia and I already had 5 years recruitment experience in a different firm under my belt. I had a Degree in Information Management and I wanted to work in the field of information, as it was known then, or data as it is known now. However it transpired that Premier Group wanted to start a Temporary & Contract division for Accounting & Finance staff in Dublin and I offered my services for a 6 month contact to set it up.

Fast forward 13 years and I’ve had quite a journey with the company!

After my initial commitment of 6 months, I spent 5 years as a Consultant / Manager, working on the Accountancy & Finance Temporary and Contracts desk in Dublin. During that time the Dublin office moved to the Burlington Road premises and shortly afterwards, the Premier Group rebranded to Morgan McKinley and I was now working for a large multinational company.

In 2010 I moved into the ‘Managed Services Team’ which was the early ancestor of M3S and became Associate Director with responsibility for a team that hired over 200 permanent staff for Dun & Bradstreet’s new software development centre in Dublin.

Then came a career change.. after 12 years in Recruitment, I still had an idea about moving more towards a career path in data. Fortunately, at around the same time the leadership team in Morgan McKinley were thinking of initiatives around moving towards being a data driven organisation.

In 2013, I travelled to Mahe in south west India and spent the following 8 months involved in the set up of the Data Services team in our Global Services Centre. For the following 3 years we worked hard to build out and enhance the quality of our global database, in order to increase the reach and segmentation of our Marketing communications.

At the end of 2016 we were again looking to the future and in line with the company’s strategic plan for Digital Transformation, the Data Quality and Customer Insights team was born. My current role is to the lead the Analytics & Insights team, and I work with a talented group of people including a Data Scientist and a Data Analyst. The focus of the team is to deliver actionable insights for the business across customer behaviour, customer experience, operational efficiency and revenue generation.

My time in Morgan McKinley has given me the opportunity to have a successful career in two completely different disciplines, the chance to work on another continent and the support to pursue continuous professional development in Data Analytics to complement my primary Degree in Information Management.

One of my colleagues recently asked me why I chose to stay for so long and together with all the reasons above, the answer is that I’ve always worked with really great people!

Given the current pace of data analytics and artificial intelligence, and the strategic plans for Morgan McKinley, I’m excited to find out what the next 13 years will bring and am curious to see how the world of recruitment will look in the year 2031!
