AS A veteran festival-goer, DJ Jo Whiley has developed the art of looking good while roughing it.

Instead of showers, make-up and costly personal grooming rituals all she needs is a spritz of dry shampoo, some lip balm and eye make-up remover wipes.

Jo, 48, who has four children ranging from three to 19, also keeps the £2.55 nappy rash cream, Sudacrem, handy to soothe chafes or scratches.

She has shared her tips for choosing the best pharmacy basics when jetting off on holiday or preparing for a festival - all for under-£5.

Batiste Dry Shampoo works wonders when your hair is flagging

"I do a lot of swimming and unfortunately the really puts a strain on my hair, Boots' Sun, Swim, Gym shampoo and conditioner really treats the chlorine damage and keeps my hair soft. Also, as I’m blonde, it prevents my hair from getting a green tinge," she says.

"Sudacrem is a holiday essential, especially when you have four kids to help soothe bites, cuts and grazes. Johnson eye make-up remover wipes get rid of under-eye smudges and are good for freshening up too.

And when access to hot showers is limited? "Batiste Dry Shampoo works wonders when your hair is flagging."

Jo is now the face of Oral-B Pro-Expert Premium Gum Protection Toothpaste, which contains the anti-bacterial stannous fluoride and helps fill holes in teeth. "As a presenter, my teeth are constantly on show," she says.

"Many of us will experience gum problems at some point. But most of us don’t know how to treat and prevent the cause. I’ve had bleeding gums in the past which can be a sign of gum problems, so I know how important it is to love your gums."
