MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Five Millersville Marauders were voted D2CCA All-Atlantic Region by the region's sports information directors on Wednesday.
Millersville, which was recently selected as the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Atlantic Region that starts on Thursday, May 16 at Cooper Park, led all teams with five honorees.
Starting pitcher
Eli Nabholz earned his third-straight first team selection. Outfielder
Cole Friese and relief pitcher
Tyler Yankosky were also named to the first team. Second baseman
Kaylor Kulina and
Ben Snyder was named to the second team as a utility player. The five selections are the most for Millersville since 2016.
Nabholz, the two-time PSAC East Pitcher of the Year, joins Chris Murphy and
Chas McCormick as the only three-time D2CCA (previously Daktronics) All-Atlantic Region First Team selections in program history. Nabholz is currently 9-1 with a 3.15 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 71 1/3 innings.
Friese is a first-time honoree and enters the regional batting .372 with a 1.101 OPS. He owns a PSAC-best 64 runs while also ranking in the top 10 in home runs (11), doubles (14), triples (4) slugging percentage (.653) and stolen bases (27). Friese joins
Chas McCormick--currently with Double-A Corpus Christi in the Houston Astros organization--and Millersville hall of famer Mike VanGavree as the lone Millersville outfielders named all-region first team.
Yankosky is in his first season as a relief pitcher. He was named All-PSAC East First Team as well, and owns a 4-1 record with five saves, a 2.76 ERA, .183 batting average against and 43 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings. He is Millersville's first reliever to earn all-region first team status since George McClure in 2000 (ABCA) and the first Marauder reliever named all-region since 2013.
Kulina leads Millersville with a .451 on base percentage and is second in hitting with a .348 average. He has totaled 11 doubles and 34 RBIs. Kulina also ranks fifth in the PSAC with 101 assists and leads all second basemen with a .977 fielding percentage.
Snyder is a first-time all-region selection. He has split time between catcher and first base, totaling 19 doubles to go with a .337 average and .413 on base percentage. Snyder ranks third in the PSAC in RBIs with 50. Also reliable with his glove, Snyder leads the PSAC with 388 chances and owns a .992 fielding percentage--third-best among the 80 players with at least 100 chances.
Millersville's first game of the NCAA Atlantic Regional is on Friday, May 17 at 11 a.m. Millersville will play the loser of Thursday's game one and then will play at 2:30 p.m., against Thursday's winner.
