There are several ways to make clear the name you plan to use now that you are married. You can begin by mentioning your intentions casually before the wedding. If you plan to be announced at your wedding, this is your first opportunity to announce your name publicly. "Here is the bride and groom... Karen Pollack and Jim Davis!" Wedding announcements, both mailed and in the newspaper, are another way to get the word out, especially to those who didn't attend the wedding. Your stationary, the return address on thank-you-note envelopes, and in your email signature are all places that will signal your choice to use your maiden name. Older relatives may not understand your decision, as it was uncommon in their day. If you need to correct someone, do so kindly.
